Waited For This Every Week!

I enjoyed Blue Birthday a lot!!

Story- The story starts off as what seems to be a typical time drama plot (someone tries to fix the past but realizes it causes more harm then good. Eventually they learn to accept the present as what it is) but BB is far from that. The plot had twist and turns which was exciting and unexpected and overall was different from anything I've watched. .It's good, especially for a short web drama :)

*There are plot holes but they didn't affect my enjoyment*

Acting/Cast- The acting was ok overall. This is a group of rookie actors I believe so I didn't expect grade A acting from them. They got the story across just fine in my opinion so I'm content. I'm excited to see how much they grow in the future!

Music- It was cool and fit the drama :) the music that played at the end of every episode is stamped in my mind lol

Rewatch Value- I don't rewatch shows but if I did I don't think I would watch this one again. I did really like it but there are other dramas I would pick first.

Overall if you're into time travel dramas and mystery watch this! The acting isn't the best but remember this is a group of rookie actors.

Happy Watching!! :)

TIME TRAVELS

I literally love this kdrama.
Everything was organized and this was one of the best in 2021. The main casts were both from a kpop group (RV & pentagon) which makes it 10x better T - T
The story was very thrilling and exciting and of course romantic at the same time.

It's basically about a girl who have a crush on a boy and that boy died and she tries to fix the present by going back to the past and finding what really happened in the boy's "suicide" because she can't move on.
BIG PLOT TWISTS AHEAD...

there's a lot of twists there that will make you anxious and shocked :))

enjoy watching it.. TOTALLY RECOMMENDED ?

Wish i could travel back before watching this...

I even think i rewatch this, that how so forgettable this was for me.
Traveling in time burning photos it is ok. Everyone doing that it is strange. The plot has lots of holes and incongruences…
STORY – a suicide that can be prevent traveling to the past. Changing the past will lead to bad karma…
Seo Joon travels to prevent her long-time friend from all kinds of bad things (from hurting her knee to falling the stairs). Ten years ago, he is find dead, presumably suicide.
Ha Rin loved him for so long and she still misses him after a decade. With nine photos from his camera, she reads a note where he confess his love for her. She, strangely, burn one of the photos and find herself in the past.
Then the story goes from trying to save him, changing the past what tuning the consequences…
SPOILERS – murder and not suicide, so… who is the killer, the villain?
The friends were ok, I guess. However, all of them could be the suspect…
The villain is so boring, one-dimensional and a psycho.
ACTING – I do not follow the k-pop and drama thing. I do not know the actors and their lives. I just did not like the acting, but it was not awful.
MUSIC – forgettable. It was not my thing.
REWATCH – no, never again!
OVERALL – the premise is interesting. The plot could be great, but it is not. The characters and their stories are boring, with lots of incoherence. The changes in the future are minimal.

Pleasantly surprised on how the events unfold...

Finally a drama where photography truly shines! As someone who majored in photography, I am pleased to see this.
The fact that time travel here can be made through the photographs of that specific analogic camera is a genius move.

Blue Birthday, had the premise we all feared it might end up having.
A tragic event, followed by countless attempts to stop it, possibly resulting in a sad ending.
Still, that could not stop us from wanting to see more of this, and engage into all the time travels both Oh Ha Rin and Ji Seo Joon did so to discover the real culprit and hope that the past could be changed despite the price to pay for doing so.

After all there's always a price to pay for meddling with fate, - it's the law of equal balance - when changing something one must sacrifice something else as well. The characters here learned that several times and the hard way, and yet they persisted.

In the end the true price was time. For a decade of unfortunate events they tried so hard to prevent in order to find happiness.

We can say that this drama has what it takes. From the whole time travel being made into a simple view, it is also quite creative by using photographs and the whole saying of burning time again and again. Since, the person is only able to time travel once it burns the photograph with the date on it. Besides all that, the acting is actually decent and not entirely cringe. It delivers the story well despite the short amount of time each episode does have, and it even has it's cliffhangers here and there.

The OST is pretty good and catchy too. The cinematography is spot on.
I really enjoyed the scenes and both the past (2011) and present (2021) being shown back and forward, so to explain how things in fact changed based on their own actions and choices. They tried to use a bit of angst and thriller here, for the viewer to be able to create theories by the way they did the scenes and also by every single message left by the end of each episode.

I highly recommend it. It's a decent binge watch drama to be seen. It does not drag the plot that much, and it develops decently.

My favorite thing about this drama is that it highlights photography, because it's what unites the main characters together and the sole reason it is possible to go back in time and prevent a disaster. There's also the photography club scenes and the cute little shop that the old man owns, who seem to be connected. We live in a digital Era, but photography's roots are always in the making of chemicals and developing into paper inside a dark lab.

This brings me back good memories and also the yearning to do that once again. Because there's nothing more rewarding and thrilling than to develop a roll and see the pictures you took with that camera appear in that negative, and then being imprinted into paper as the image slowly appears and you put it to dry.

Black and white photos are forever timeless if you ask me.

best

this show is great. the cast, the drama are great. this show teaches me that when your partner is in danger, do your best to save him/her. I think this show is great in many ways. Like the cast, music, show, etc. I really really enjoyed this show. if u want to rewatch this show, go ahead. I will want to rewatch it someday. the storyline, location are great. but there's one thing missing: we never meet Oh Ha-Rin's parents. I mean the show most of the student's parents except for Ha-Rin's. and also the show is complete. it has student pressure, peer pressure, and also the plot. it's great too.

I don't know how I've managed to finish this....boring

the premise was interesting. I'm not new to this kind of plots. just recently I watched and loved "lovely runner", so watching a drama about traveling in time to save someone is nothing new.
the beginning was interesting, there were a few plot twist and the drama was running smoothly but at the very , even with more plot twist the drama was unbearably boring.
I took me a great deal of patience to finish it and I skip a lot..like a lot.
I'm still not sure whose is the target audience.
it looks like a drama catered to young children: clean language, no romantic scenes but then there is murder and blood..so.... I'm confused.
dumb choices in this drama are a must. police officers so dumb to let a murder suspect run away Twice, a boy than cannot overcome his smaller sister just just his physical strenght..so many things.
the romance was completely absent. what I mean by that is that there is a lot of taking and no showing almost.
the acting wasn't that fantastic especially for the main girl which was so boring and lacking in expressions.
at the end of the day is a "light" murder case with a sprinkle of romance and nothing more.
there is better stuff out there.

This was occasionally cute and I really found the twist unexpected. It's similar to The Call from last year, where a ruthless female killer travels through time. It was fun seeing the mystery unraveled, but I just didn't find the story all that compelling. Yeri approached this with her usual enthusiasm, and so much of her irresistible charm made this watchable. I'm sorry to say that Hongseok just couldn't match her energy. There was very little variation in his facial expressions. Ha Rin and Seo Jun's romance wasn't nearly as interesting or fun as Su Jin and Ui Yeong's. And I think Hye Min's storyline was so mishandled. Anticipating a drama with a bit more teeth for Yeri in the future.

Amplified by Kim Yerim's performance, Blue Birthday is not your mediocre web drama as it offers an intriguing and nostalgic high school drama with impressive directing and scoring.

I felt a rollercoaster of emotion throughout the series specifically from Episode 1 to 15. I was always on the edge of my seat every time an episode ends. I highly recommend this series for binge-watching.

However, the last episode was such a letdown. I kind of wished ML still died at the end and that FL only get to have stolen moments and new memories with ML. It was so absurd how they can time travel and change things on their own accord carelessly. I get that what they did is for everyone's sake and happy ending. It just felt like every turn and twist of the story boiled down to the leads' happy ending.

On the other hand, I didn't expect that Yeri was such a natural actress! The camera obviously loves her but I was amazed by her acting skills. And this series is absolutely a good start for her acting career. I can't wait for more!

Once again, this drama is a breath of fresh air in web dramas! Usually, web dramas are so cringy with lots of cheesy lines and cinematography that do not have that much creativity. Blue Birthday is hands down one of the best short series I have seen!

Way too overrated

Even though at first I liked the plot of the time travel, mid season the whole idea somehow changed (not the time travel factor but the story). Why on earth out of nowhere change the story so much? I thought it'd be a sad romantic story where the fem lead didn't have the time to save him or express her feelings and relive all this dramatic end. What was that? And isn't like one of the main rules that noone can come back to life? But nevermind everything. Ep 13 was the complete mood killer. Why was everyone so chill with the killer? In which universe is that a normal reaction when you already experienced all these. What kind of story is that! I was about to give it a 7 but after that no. Although the ending was cute (after all they got to get through), i still skipped many parts and felt like the show was never ending.

I have no hate over the actors. They did good for the experience they had. But whoever wrote that, I feel like they got stuck and couldn't handle the idea they had on first place. Also the 16 eps are way too many for this plot.

Good Enough

Korean Mini Series 'Blue Birthday' is a nice blend of mystery and time travel fantasy. However, it didn't prevail in other areas.

That is, as most of the drama takes place in high school, after the main lead goes back in time to prevent her best friend's death, the whole school romance feeling, as well as the enjoyment of young friendship and, of course, the nostalgia factor, were lacking. And the action and thriller scenes provided by the mystery case did not aid to hide those mistakes well enough and they did end up being missed.

That said, the drama had its good moments. The fantasy element was well done and didn't get confusing. The performances were all top-notch too and enjoyable.

So, overall, 6 out of 10.

Quick watch for sake of FL

If you like a high school version of complex time travel drama then this may be for you. This is an idol drama, FL is played by Yeri who is member of famous Kpop group, Red velvet. ML is Hongseok, member of Pentagon.

Frankly the drama was carried on the shoulders of the FL who is one of the most adorable and likable person you may come across. In the drama she is full of life and goes to any length to save the ones she loves. Her acting and emotional range is quite impressive and can quickly and convincingly play a 17 or 27 years old. The ML was ok but could have been so much better as the balance between their emotions and acting was a bit off. The time jump technique was really just thrown as the randomest idea. It gets so complicated and frequent that you loose interest instead of caring for the out come.

Over all redeeming quality is a quick watch due to short episodes. Not much skin ship as they are just kids.
