One of those heartbreaking movies...
I know there are a lot of people out there who loves to watch a movie that makes them smile a little bit and cry a whole lot more. Then "2037" is the film for you.Let's talk about Hong Ye Ji's acting playing Yoon young, knowing now that this is her first work in acting has actually left me speecheless. The amount of feelings that she succeeded to convey to me was tremoundous.
The pain, the sadness, the unfairness and the desperateness were all very well acted out by her.
She dropped out of school without her mother knowing to pay off the medication and her father's debt, but she still wanted to take the governemant exam eventually. They were happy or let's stay stable until IT happened. You know what happened : the unexpected things that life throws at you. I'll leave them for you to discover.
I'm not sure how to feel about the fact that a 19 years old girl went through all of this and also knowing that there are girls out there who were hurt the same way. I'm hurting for them and want them to know that they are a strong loved person if they've ever come to read this.
About her mother Kyeong Sook whenever she appeared i was crying buckets because Kim Ji Young's acting was on another level. She is a deaf person with asthma, she learned how to speak for her daughter, she was hurting for her daughter but as Soon Je, a co-inmate in a death row sentence within the Cell No. 12, said: For their kids, mothers are much stronger than you think. She was so sorry that she couldn't protect her daughter and give her the life that she wanted for her. As i saw her holding that pizza and wandering barefooted, my heart was wrecked, she really wanted to believe that her daughter is fine, that she is going to be fine.
All the co-inmates in Cell No. 12 had their own stories unfolded and then comforted by Yoon Young at the end, they offered protection and nurtered her each in their own way.
This is the end for those who haven't watched it yet, i would highly advise you to go watch it and get some tissues and band-aids for your heart ready!
MAJOR SPOILERS AHEAD, DON'T READ, GO WATCH THEN COME BACK. (It's sort of a conclusion to me personally)
Yoon Young's wish was that it's all going to be a dream, it was granted at he end after much suffering both physically and much more mentally. She gave up her daughter named by her inmates "Boni" for adoption, she wished her to grow well and beautiful, she didn't abandon her but she did this to protect her as she said it about Sa Rang's parents, so i can conclude for the sake of my heart that she accepted her and loved her at the end. Most importantly, she did end up again happy with her mother and having an interview to become a government employee.
I was trying to avoid watching a heartwrenching movie like this for so long now because it affects me so much and i know it will stay with me for so long but yeah it is what it is.

Even if it’s hard, you have to push through
First and foremost, I’ll started this review by summarise this movie as a “brilliant work”. One of the best movies I’ve encountered so far in 2022. Discover this movie while scrolling my tiktok, and it appears on my fyp with quite number of views. I attracted to watch this one because it gave me Miracle In Cell No.7 vibes. Instantly, I searched it in the available streaming and begin to watch. From the moment it started, you instantly know that this movie will take a different turn, one that will begin in tragedy and possibly end with a tragedy too. I’ve watched countless of sad endings drama and movies, therefore, I expect nothing out of this ‘inmate’ background story. “It might be so cliché..” that’s what I thought at the first. But the moment, I saw the female lead got involved in the tragedy, I started to panicking and it feels like I’m at the edge of my seat; curious and anxious of what to happen next.
Imo, this movie successfully conveyed its messages. The reality of our life, how law usually works regardless and based of the circumstances, and how difficult it is for the victims to continue their life haunted by the tragedy that happened to them. Also, the life inside of the prison, that every characters in this movie managed to execute really well and bring the story come to alive. I would like to give a huge applause to actress Hong Ye Ji, read somewhere that this is her first debut in film, and I couldn’t believed it that she could nailed this heavy role in her first project. Tell ya, the moment she started crying, without realising, I cried along with her. Also, Kim Ji Young bring a role as a mom who’s deaf, deserved the same credit. Both characters without a doubt will give you some trauma. I’m not joking though.
Other than that, the side characters are equally important in this movie, the whole squad of room 10 totally warmth my heart. Even though, they always bickering and throwing curse to one another, I love the way the keep protecting each other especially the maknae. They all have their own story to tell, but I totally understand why this movie didn’t highlight much of the side characters’ background stories. After all this movie focusing about inmate 2307. I love watching the interaction between the inmates of room 10 but seeing Jeon Somin bringing a character close to depict herself make me burst out loud.
Overall, what I can say, you should experience yourself to know what this movie will make you feel. The production team really put enormous efforts to produce this brilliant work that offers a great storyline with an amazing line up. The ending even though quite confusing for some, but I would say it gives us, the audiences, the choice to interpret it, how we would like to see the ending based on our interpretations. Last but not least, there’s always a rainbow in the sky, after a gloomy weather and the rainbow can be seen even from the darkest place. Even if it’s hard, you have to push through. You should live well.

overall notes, no specified details
they could’ve improved the story plot and script and made it more powerful, tearful and tragedic. The acting and cinematograghy is on another high level, I really enjoyed it. but I wasn’t a big fan of the opened ending.
compared to Cell No.7 , it needs some more plot filling improvments, personally I would like it to be more tragedic and more focused on the roommates relationship
I give it an overall 7/10, I do recommend it especially for who enjoys the cinematography and acting more than the plot itself ✨

This one broke me...
For me, this movie was really great. "2037" made me cry a lot. The plot was really heartbreaking. In my opinion, the relationship between a deaf mother and her daughter has been shown very well. It may seem a bit cold but I think it's because Yoon Young's life was not easy. She felt she had to look after her mother, so she decided to lie that she didn't drop out of school and she worked a lot. But she was still happy and wanted to fight for herself by passing the government exam. She and her mother cared for each other and were happy together until this terrible thing happened.
Then Yoon Young was wrongly imprisoned and she had a really hard time, despite the fact that her fellow inmates tried very hard to help her. The relationship between the fellow prisoners was great. They were kind and thoughtful towards Yoon Young.
The emotions in this film were shown so well that it was easy for the viewer to empathize with them.
This is one of the best movies I have ever watched.

I think the storyline is good enough and close to the reality, for example that one day something may happen to us without warning, and it can really change our normal life.
I'm glad that i watched this when i wanted to cry, it makes me forget my pain for a while and realize that everyone has their problem. All the scenes wrapped so well that i can even feel the pain, the anger, and some part of peace.
Y'all have to watch this, but don't watch this while you eat (coz you'll lose your appetite for crying)

I wouldn’t say I’d rewatch it again but it’s definitely worth watching at least once. it’s so sad and tells and amazing story. I definitely recommend watching. every character tells a story and some are even brutal but you can see how they build a trust around each other towards the end. ahhhhhhhhhhh so beauuuuuuuuuuutiful. I feel sorry for the main girl especially and what she went through. even getting pregnant ☹️☹️☹️☹️ it’s unfair what these woman go through in life. i give it a ten out of tenWas this review helpful to you?

Heartbreaking heartwarming and devastatingThe vague ending did make me lower the point
I need to add, I appreciated the, receptionist(?) the guy barely had any importance but whenever he told the mom it’s ok to talk slowly and take her time, that one move showed humanity
I don’t like open endings
Like was it all the bright side dream hope that the baby gets adopted and she lives her life again
It makes sense that her letter to her cell mates was cuz she’s not coming back anyway as her sentence ended.
And her heartbeat didn’t fade, but then again Koreans love the “it’s all a dream” so I don’t like that move
