pretty good
It's cute, fluffy and kinda goofy and the angst is really satisfying. The main characters reason for having feeling for the other person is also very heartouching.Though at times, it felt like the background music was interupting a moment instead of enhancing it. The 1st episode feels a bit choppy but it get much better as the story progresses. The emotionally charged scenes are done really well, none of it feels insincere or excessive. I especially appreciate Togawa's actor for THAT scene.
When compared, the manga is slightly better. I felt that interaction between characters and flow of a conversation seemed a bit more natural there, in the show it feels like they just ask unusual questions out of nowhere. Also Togawa's character doesn't seem like as much of a wildcard weirdo in the manga.
All in all, I recommend watching it.

Thorough Enjoyment
This series may be short, but don't let that stop you from getting a cute and fluffy BL fix . You can't go wrong with a Japanese BL and here was no acception. The name may sound a bit strange but it'll make sense down the road lolI highly recommend even though a few times it gave me anxiety and had room for more detail/content that I didn't get. It has a good story with a cute cast and without any unnecessary drama to make it stretched out. Short, sweet and to the point but relatable.
Enjoy ...

Wholesome.
I think that's the one word I would use to describe this show, so very wholesome. It is the kind of thing you just want to have a hot drink and comfortably watch. I really enjoyed the acting and directing, the lack of slow motion dramatic shots is truly a relief as we just get to sit with the real time feelings and words of the characters. The manga is one of my favorites and I do think the show did it justice. The characters were similar to how I imagined them to be and I think the relationship they built was so heartwarming.
I think both the actors emanated their characters and it was so fun to see Togawa just absolutely stuff his face like in the manga. I just love this story, I love how hopeful it is, how it revitalizes the optimism Nozue has for life and getting older. There isn't anything out of the ordinary about the characters, they are just everyday people living their lives, and something about that within this show is so endearing.
This is actually one of the very few shows I think I would rewatch in the future, and I think every time I do I would just crave more of their story.

delight BL - exactly what I wanted from others
old fashion cupcake is, as my headline says, exactly what I wanted from other BLs and honestly, other jdramas I've seen. this show was heart-felt, with our main characters striving to take care of each other and learn more about themselves at the same time. they both feel like real people, with a real history with each otherI'm usually not a fan of age gaps, though at 29 and 39, their ages lend themselves to a really fun sort of angsting without making them feel (to us, the viewers) that they're uneven in some way. (though how they, the characters, feel is a little different :3) I really enjoyed the mental journeys both Togawa and Nozue went through over the course of this show, and how their relationship grew from coworkers to friends to more. there were lots of scenes that had me smiling or laughing alongside them, and other scenes where I felt their confusion or sadness
honestly loved this show, though I'll admit the first episode is probably my least favorite. I didn't expect to enjoy the "let's pretend to be girls" thing as much as I did, it added such a fun layer to their interactions!!
I already know I'll be rewatching in the future

japan's bls just hit different don't they?
I always feel a sense comfort when I watch a japanese bl and its because of their comforting auras and dedication to giving us soft and sweet romances that will rot your teeth.I LOVED this series! it was short, sweet, and left an impact! the chemistry between the leads was FIRE and beautiful. the progression of their little dates and their relationship was so fun to watch. i think episode 4's confession scene is something that will live in my mind for a long time. the acting was SO good and the fact that it is filmed in a single shot was incredible and added to the overall effect of the scene.
this series was five episodes of pure bliss!! i would rewatch this entire series in a heartbeat for all the serotonin it gave me each week~

Short, sweet, full of fluff yet realistic
To have a BL series featuring characters who are older than the typical characters in BL may be a risk, but it also offers opportunities for something realistic and moving. The fact that the leads are colleagues, that the older one is 39, that there's a ten-year age gap between them, are not just glossed over but nicely used to highlight realistic concerns in a sweet love story. The love story itself does take some time to develop. While the two leads are attractive men in the story, it is not really the main focus (unlike some series that spend too much time on how attractive one of the male leads is) or even necessarily the main cause of their attraction to each other. Some flashbacks effectively highlight the development of the feelings between the two men.
Despite the sweetness, the series also features genuine concerns like ageing (though neither of the leads is really old) and social isolation. The issue of masculinity and what society expects of men and of people at different ages is also brought up. When the two leads agree to pretend to be girls, it's more like they are pretending to pretend--I think they genuinely want to be expressive and share their emotions with someone rather than to behave the way society expects grown up men to.
The obstacles that are in the way of their relationship are also quite genuine. When the older guy thinks about their relationship, he thinks, "He's a man, and I'm a man". I don't think he's unable to come to terms with a same-sex relationship but is worried about people's reactions and how it may affect the both of them. Even when they are about to kiss at the end of the series, they stop upon hearing people nearby.
While we have a sweet love story in Old Fashion Cupcake, the realistic treatment of the problems that can come in the way of the romance enhance the story. An awareness of these problems makes one appreciate the love the two leads show each other more.

Heartwarming And Profound
This is my first Japanese BL show. Recently I've watched a few Korean BL shows and got used to their humour and acting and brutal honesty. I knew that a Japanese show would be different. Here, we got a lot of unsaid things and things said through saying other things, as is more typical in Japan. I adored the use of language. I don't speak Korean well, so I could not appreciate the language aspect of Korean dramas, but I do speak Japanese and I adored every word in this show. I adored how the script was delivered, the intensity of words that were said, and the nuance of all the words that were left out.I absolutely adored the message of this show: no age is too old as long as you don't give up on yourself and your happiness. I'm at a very precarious point in my own life and I needed to see this show. The romance part as well was very sweet and gentle and genuine. I can honestly say that watching this show made my day.
Will 100/10 rewatch!

best bl with limited episode
It sad but true that best bl always end to soon. But this drama full file everything. Dominant, younger but taller seme is at its best. Togawa is the best husband in the world. he is very dedicated and patience and only care about nozesa happiness. but he is not perfect he sometimes fail to control and show his emotion brutally and that make him human. but be sure he is not toxic at all. He make mistake acknowledge it and admit it and also feel guilty about it.and noze sa is another way of perfect husband material you can find in life. their pair is the the best in j bl. and the kiss scene is beyond expectation .

ONE OF THE BEST SERIES ♡
Positive:Obviously an opinion haha, everybody's likings are different.
I cannot begin to think of how much I LOVED this serie. I found it so adorable and cute, the build up to their whole relationship was wonderful. Definitely my comfort serie. The whole concept is so cute. I love how this serie shows that no matter what age you are you can still fall in love, it's never too late to still feel that spark. I love how Nozue is able to feel happiness in that way even if he is considered "old." It's like he is reliving his childhood, trying things he hasn't tried in a long time. Big thanks to Togawa for giving him that push. ?
(Loved the aesthetic as well ?)
Negative:
I don't have much to say other than the age gap...10 year age gap didn't really sit right with me. I'd say at least 5 would be alright. Another thing is I would've loved to see more of them at the end in their relationship :(
I'm hoping for a season 2..!!

You must watch this (and you will finish it in one day)!
I loved this series and I found it very relatable, as I am sure many other viewers did. It actually made me reflect on myself personally to work on trying new things outside of my comfort zone. The OST is fun and addictive. Having 5 episodes is perfect, as there is enough in each episode to keep you interested and wanting to keep watching (I often find myself skipping through other series when it feels like is dragging on too much and there are too many episodes). Coming from mostly Thai BL series, I am really impressed and will definitely be on the lookout for more Japanese BL shows in the future. Was this review helpful to you?

a sweet and thought-provoking series
i watched this yesterday when i was sick and it put me in a such a good mood :))!! it's such a sweet love story with a really inspiring message, that you're never too old to try something new.the characters were so layered and interesting, and, of course, these talented actors helped bring them to life!! i could clearly feel togawa's love and admiration for nozue, who was essentially an inspiration to him in a time where he was lost, a motivation to be the better version of himself. nozue's development was really fullfilling. in the beginning, he appears to be more self-conscious and afraid of change, because he's become so used to this monotonous life he doesn't want or feels confident to step out of that confort zone. but in only five episodes, we see him develop into a more vibrant, confident version of himself with togawa's help.
their interactions were so natural and captivating, and the little playfulness had me giggling and blushing.
although, i have to say, episode 4 was heartwrenching :(( "you're the only person who makes me glad i'm alive" fucking broke me :((( why is that so sad??? and togowa confessing what he thought were unreciprocated feelings hurt like hell, the way he broke into tears :((((
i really liked the cinematography, color grading and the spaces they filmed in.
overall, it's a cozy but very thought-povoking show, i will definitely come back to this in the future!!

Fluffy and deep at same time!
I don't get the title name but I like it.Except for 1st episode that's a little slow, once the story picks up, its really good.
I love how it shows us truly, that love is love, transcending age and gender.
It's really cute how they play "pretend game". It depicts real life challenges people face, so its pretty realistic show.
Love how it also teaches us about happiness and life lessons generally
It's lighthearted yet bring deep meaning all at same time
It made me very happy watching them. I learnt a lot from both characters.
