Kept waiting for it to get better

After the success of Love in the Air, I was curious as to what the actors would do next, so naturally I tried Love Sea. Unfortunately, this one really missed the mark for me. It was extremely average, with the most predictable plot imaginable. While the actors did a fine job, their characters didn't feel all that different from their roles in LITA, and the story kind of went no where.

Tongrak (Peat) is a wealthy, very successful author who decides to take a trip to an island to get over his writer's block. On the island he meets Mahasamut (Fort), who shows him around and takes care of him. While on the island, the two start hooking up, and Tongrak decides he wants Mahasamut to come back to Bangkok with him, where he'll pay him to basically be his live-in boyfriend. They enter into this contract with one condition: no falling in love. However, Mahasamut claims from the start that he can't agree to that one term.

For at least the first seven episodes, this show was frankly kind of boring. I'm just not a huge fan of the friends with benefits to lovers concept, and this one was exceptionally predictable. I thought of dropping this drama so many times but kept thinking that it had to get more interesting. While it picked up towards the end, even then I felt like we weren't really getting anywhere with the relationship or the characters. I think this is only worth watching if you're a big fan of Fort and Peat.

Weak story held together with occasional spiciness

Love Sea is a yaoi fangirl’s fever dream.

There’s the arrogant and petulant Tongrak, a ridiculously wealthy writer with a penchant for using money to get his way. He leads a comfortable and sheltered life (but of course it’s also fraught with trauma), and then he meets Mahasamut – who is the complete opposite.

Mahasamut exists worlds apart from Tongrak’s universe of privilege. The level of explicitness (watch with headphones, guys) is similar to Love In The Air, so if you enjoyed the spiciness then, you’ll probably appreciate the spiciness now.

I found some spicy scenes to be unnecessary – shower scene I’m looking at you. There are nuances to be unpacked in terms of their dynamic. Is it a sugar daddy/sugar baby relationship? Or are they lovers, except that one person in the relationship has disproportionate access to wealth and resources and often uses this to control the other party? The show glosses over this right until the very end.

A key antagonist in the series is Tongrak’s father. The series spent quite a bit of time building up Tongrak’s traumas, hinting at a climax (and eventual resolution) involving his daddy issues.

It’s difficult to undo years of destruction. In the end, the resolution seemed a little too easy and unsatisfying.

I have to admit I have some mixed feelings after finishing this one.

Was it a bit dramatic? Yes. Was there angst? Yes. Passion and romance? Absolutely. There were definitely parts I enjoyed, and I liked the ending, but literallyanything that is not the main couple, I couldn't have given any less of a fuck about. Like I'm being so honest, anything that didn't directly involve Tongrak and Mahasamut as a couple, I didn't care about. The characters were cute, Tongrak was tsunderet. I preferred Mahasamut, I adored him, honestly. He is just so adorable.

Look, this story is cute, annoyingand sexy. It's straightforward and low-stakes. As with MAME's previous show, it doesn't necessarily do anything remarkable or revolutionary, but there's nothing wrong with that.

Which do you prefer, plot or body?

This is the second time the two leading actors have worked together!

The previous drama was very good, and the big scenes were also beautifully shot; I watched many parts many times, and I have been paying attention to the two of them since then, and I am very happy that they can work together for the second time; so I watched this drama with anticipation, but after watching a few episodes, I felt that it was not what I expected. The plot of this drama feels a bit weak, and the emotional line between the two people is a bit vague, and it is a bit purely for showing the bodies of the two people.

What do you think?

A Work with No Value Other Than Watching the Perfect Chemistry Between the Two

Honestly, this drama holds no value other than watching the perfect chemistry between Fort and Peat. Their chemistry is, of course, exceptional, and the NC scenes and kiss scenes clearly show how much they genuinely desire each other, making for a wonderful experience. The two actors did an excellent job.

However, the storyline is incredibly cheap. The depiction of significant childhood trauma is a pattern the writer tends to favor, but honestly, they seem to treat trauma lightly. In the drama, overcoming trauma happens all too easily, as if it's wiped away in an instant. This is simply unrealistic. Even if Tongrak doesn't want to be with Mahasamut because he doesn’t believe in love, I don't understand why this drags on for ten episodes, especially when it's clear from the beginning that they like each other. It makes no sense.

I like the two leads, and I was looking forward to the show because the beginning of the first episode was really interesting. But from around episode 4, it just kept repeating the "Do I like them? Do I not?" scenario, wasting time on meaningless mind games.

Furthermore, the relationship between the side couple Vivi and Khaimuk also bothered me, as it depicted using one's position to manipulate and control the other to get their attention.

Would I recommend it? No. But if you want to see the passionate scenes between Fort and Peat, then go ahead and watch it.

chemistry was chemistying but

it wasn’t that good

The good :
- we can’t deny the great chemistry between our main characters
- amazing and hot kissing scenes, it was already not bad in Love in the air, but they improved. I was like « that’s a kiss » while watching
- the cinematography, the episodes on the island and the beach, pretty cinematography. I enjoyed the setting and the episodes on the island in general too.
- I loved the relationship between Mut and Meena, I enjoyed their scenes together a lot. That child actress was really good.
- I liked Mut’s character a lot. He turned out to be a green flag. He treated him well, cooked for him, etc… I liked how he was patient and understandable with Rak, at the end, I understood that he left, there is a limit in my opinion of waiting and being treated like that. Must have been hard, he loves Rak very much and he doesn’t want to accept yet that he loves him amd the things he said to him. He wasn’t giving up, even when Rak wanted to breakup with him because of the thing with his dad, He fought for him
- Vi and Muk, they annoyed me at first, but not later on. And I liked the friendship and their care for Mut and Rak
- the return on the island for the last episode
- Happy ending I guess
- the acting was good
- to see Rak’s journey to healing from his past trauma
- the ending for the dad. That was very satisfying Mut beating him up

I wouldn’t say bad, but maybe the less good :
- I was quite bored with the plot a few times and I started skipping or putting it at like 1,5x
- Rak’s character annoyed me at time. I don’t even know how to describe it, how he was acting, a bit baby ?? He know he had trauma, but it started to annoy me (feel like it was very similar to Love in the air).
- The conflict and Rak’s reaction in the last ep that lead to Mut leaving. Like how ? after everything Mut did and there is no denying that he loves him. I know again… the past trauma, but I think it wasn’t that needed. and then the last ep was so long... But at least we got to see Rak do some efforts, finally accepts that he loves Mut and wants to be with him, that was satisfying him working to get Mut back. Even if the last ep is the ep that I skipped the most parts, I just wanted it to be over
- At some level, the thing with the dad was a bit much and not very interesting plot.
- The GL couple, didn’t like them at first, but they became a bit more interesting. but their story wasn’t enough and I don’t think it was executed very well, some part were missing to me for the development of their relationship. Also in the last ep, we like got nothing….

Anyway, an okay watch to pass time and enjoy great chemistry

Very forgettable storywise but chemistry between leads makes up for everything

First the cons of this show. Plot wise it's a very cliche show. If you are only here for the plot then you might be dissapointed. Nothing really seem to happen, it's just a depiction of the daily life of the characters.

Now the pros, the chemistry and the interactions between the leads. Mame is very good at UST and NC and this show is no exception. it's a lot more realistic then other shows and the interactions between the two leads either made me laugh or made my heart flutter. This is not something that often happens. These two are wonderful together and have great chemistry and it shows. Although it's not a show you would be waiting impatiently every week for an update, mainly because there is no suspense, but it's definitly one of those feel good shows that you will not miss. This show makes me not care about the plot because the leads really do carry the entire show.

Anyway, for those looking for a low drama kind of show that will make you smile, this is it. don't go in with high expectations and you will have a wonderful time. and it's so nice to see familiar actors from other shows.

Missing its magic

Note to self:
I wasnt intending to write a review, but i wrote quite a long comment in the comments about my end thoughts, and thought id copy and paste it and make it a review to keep note of my thoughts if i ever want to change my ratings, so i can reference this, because in the comments section, my commeny will probably get buried under other's comments.
-----> This review is merely a collection of my own thoughts, its not meant to be a critical review to tell others why they should/shouldnt watch it.

Note 2:
I didnt pay attention to the music to be able to give it a fair rating, so i rated it a 0, because for me, 0 = undecided, but when i submitted the review, it said i had to give a rating, so i gave it a 5 (in between 0 and 10)

My copied + pasted comment:

Just finished this, and im not sure what to rate it. For now, ill give it a 7/10 = i liked it. There were (quite) a few misses, but it was good overall. I change my ratings a lot though, so this prolly will change depending on my mood.

I adore FortPeat, and like Lucidd's username, i also love Muts boobs, just look at them thick, juicy cherries, they're irresistible! but unfortunately, i didnt enjoy this as much as I hoped, it was missing some magic.

The first few episodes were really good, FortPeat chemistry was on fire, the nc scenes were delicious, and to top it off, the Thailand scenery was absolutely beautiful, but after they moved to the city, i got a bit bored after a few episodes.

Peat has already played a traumatised character in LITA, and well imo, but i wish we could have seen something different this time- the trauma trope is overused imo, and most of the time feels like its there just to tug at our heartstrings and make us feel connected to the character and to give a reason to make the leads' bond stronger, but unfortunately, i wasn't fully convinced here.

By the end, i wasn't as emotionally invested in the characters as i was at the beginning.

All in all, it was a decent watch, so i wouldn't go as far as to say i regret watching it, but there are definitely much better bls out there.

Extra notes:
The child actress playing Meena was AMAZING!!! she has definitely got a good career ahead of her!

What the heck happened with our gl side couple?? Hope there's a special ep to finish it off.
• • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • •

Unfortunately, i didn't enjoy this as much ss i would've liked to, but if you do plan to watch this, hope you enjoy it!

Fun Summer Romance Series

I really enjoy this. It is kind of a pure romance story which I always enjoy the most out of BL series, I know some people don't like pure romance because of the "lack of plot" but I personally enjoy a simple plot that solely focuses on the development of just the romance in a relationship.

For the positives:
- I absolutely love the scenery. The location they chose to shoot this series is beautiful.
- As per usual, FortPeat chemistry does not miss! As each ep passes it just get better and better.
- I like that Peat's character, Tongrak is older in this show and rich. He seems like a spoiled brat used to getting everything he wants so I'm looking forward to seeing how that pans out. Also I'm obsessed with his look, his wardrobe is everything.
- I love the banter and contrast between the characters. Tongrak is so stubborn, spoiled and petty, while Mahasamut seems very happy, playful and annoying (possibly on purpose). Tongrak seems to keep his heart locked up tight, he's very cold and guarded so I'm most looking forward to seeing his journey and hopefully seeing him open up more.
- I also really enjoyed the music and vibe of this series, especially the song that plays over the end credits

I'm anticipating the GL couple, Mook seems like a naive, pushover whereas Vi is similar to Tongrak in that she comes off as sort of a bitch but I strangely like that she seems to enjoy teasing Mook. I'm hoping she develops into a more likable character. I hope these two have more chemistry than Aya had with her previous partner in Wedding Plan.

Negatives:
- I half didn't care for the way they went about Tongrak's trauma but I did enjoy the way in which is was resolved and how everything ended.
- The girls did not serve in this series which is a shame because I thought they had phenomenal chemistry in the Special Episode so I find it very weird the way they went about their relationship in the series.

Since this is a MAME series I already expected very spicy scenes, lots of great chemistry and potentially some form of trauma that needs resolving. its a fun, light hearted, summer romance and the story has picked up TREMENDOUSLY in ep 3.

Best chemistry of Main leads and streamy kisses

This my first time writing a review on my dramalist. This story is about a rich writer Tongrak that goes to an island for two weeks for break and to find some inspiration his friend has hired a guide for him. Tongrak finds his guide too annoying as Mahasamut always tries to tease him. Tongrak is sexy hot man soon he feels lust for mahasamut he tries to seduce him but failed everytime ?
Then finally they make out on beach ? obviously an empty beach.
In the two weeks Mashamut has already been fallen for Tongrak at first sight and tongrak has been in lust with him. So he brought the island boy with him Bangkok and become his suger daddy and both signs contract that all money expense of Mashamut will be Tongrak's responsibility. Slowly tongrak fall in love with him because of his taking care of him.
But writer doesn't believe in love because of his parents has no love and he didn't get love from his dad. So he can't accept that he has fallen in love.
I forgot I need to write review ?
Great acting great chemistry amazing kiss scene and I'll recommend you to watch this after a heavy drama. This drama is simply a tesion free drama with enjoyble cute scenes.

Hurt/Comfort BL

An all-round well done series, it is enjoyable and an easy watch. Acting, plot and directing are all decent and worthwhile.

It had the potential to be one of my top series of 2024, but in the end got a 8/10 overall rating. It is definitivly a great watch and re-watch value for those warm and fussy feelings that I sometimes crave. And it doesnt hurt that the main and support characters look good too, a well casted lineup. Plot could have been a little more developed in my opinion, with a tad more fleshed out storylines in couple of the episodes.

The start is particularly strong and ep 1-4 are my personal favourites. The chemistry between Fort and Peat really shines. Then we get into the more drama packed plots of the series that gives you the feels before it rounds off with the romances.

Fort and Peat has great chemistry and they manage to bounce energy off eachother so that it translates through the screen and to the viewers. The acting of the GL couple is also good, but Mame should probably put a little more effort in writing more well-developed female characters.

You should definitivly give it a shot, and I bet its even better now that its finished so you can binge it :)

Pretty nice to kill the time

I'll start first by saying that I watched this after Love in the air, which I hated, and that I'm pretty new to thai BLs.
I liked it overall and was surprised in a good way by many aspects, first because I've disliked almost all the thai BLs i've watched so far and second because it was written by Mame which, even if I'm still new, I have already identified as being a red flag itself. There is a looot to say so I guess I'm just going to list all the things I liked and disliked.

What I liked:
-Mahasamut. He was sweet, determined, a bit naive but not stupid, sensitive and overall his characterization made sense. I liked how he gave his all for Tongrak while staying human and getting actually hurt and angry with him. So many dramas (not just thai but japanese and Korean too) have completely unrealistic love interests who stay put whatever happens to them, but Mahasamut actually breaks down when he gets rejected and resents Tongrak. The scene where he cries in front of Meena and her mom is my favorite.
-The side characters. Almost none of them were ignored or felt out of place. Meena was very well written and the actress did an amazing job, Vie was a great best friend and her storyline was also interesting, Tongrak's father was a very good villain because he used manipulation rather than actual violence which is pretty realistic when it comes to family relationships, his mom, although never seen on screen, was always omnipresent which kept her mysterious while very important and I enjoyed this choice of the director. Also a big plus which you might undersand if you watch a lot of Thai BL: WOMEN. I haaaaaaaaaaaaaaaate how most of the Bls i've watched act as if women don't exist. I don't need them to be the center of attention, they're not the reason I watch BLs, but still I find it so ridiculous how writers go out of their way to have close to 0 female character appear on screen. Here, there's not only a lesbian couple, but all the women have a significant role.
-The scenario ovreall was pretty nice. It wasn't revolutionary, it lacked a few things that I'm gonna develop more below, but most of it had an easy and enjoyable flow that kept me hooked all the way to the end.
-I feel like the main couple had more chemistry than in LITA. The se*ual tension between the two was on point, and there were many moments where I found their proximity endearing, such as when Tongrak hugs Mut after he got beaten up, or the few times they cuddle in bed.
-No communication problem. Loved it. I hate when miscommunication is the center of the issue.

Now onto what I didn't like:
-Tongrak. Basically Sky 2.0, I know everyone is saying this but it's true. Except that Sky had that sassy attitude which I liked a lot. Rak is just a spoiled brat. Also, his characterization was all over the place. From the beginning, even on the Island, he keeps contradicting himself. He is introduced as this bratty rich guy who wants to hate Mut just because, but the second Mut gets close to him he flirts back, then he has this lovey dovey moment where he wants to stay with Mut but when they go to Bangkok he's back to pretending he doesn't care about him, etc.... He had a few badass moments (with Prin in the vip room for example) which were nice, but otherwise he's just a big baby and even if his trauma made sense, it felt too close to Sky's so nothing too exciting. Also a small detail that doesn't even matter but still: They keep saying how he has so much booze and keeps drinking. Never saw him drunk or even just drink once. Rookie writer mistake of telling but not showing.
-Mahasamut being pictured as the ultimate island lover, then going to Bangkok and never mention it again, not even showing once a bit of homesickness, then go back and all the sudden he cannot live without his island.
-Vie and Mook's relationship getting mostly skipped over. At some point Mook is desperate and completly avoiding Vie, then next thing you know they're dating. And that was in the special episode, in the official ending we never hear from their relationship again. I would have loved to see how they got close again, to see Mook finally accept that Vie is not just playing with her, to have Vie appologize and explain that she treated Mook badly just cuz she thought it was the only way to keep her close. And they were pictured as the second couple, not just some random side characters, so that was pretty disappointing.
-I swear to god all these guys had to do was call the police on the father, it was so frustrating to see everything go down without them even mentionning it once (actually they did mention it once, but it was after everything was over already)

As a last point, because we cannot escape it when talking about Mame's stories, let's talk about the toxicity.
Some people seem to think that it was super toxic. I don't share this opinion, and I'm not saying that just because there were no sexual assault like in other dramas, but because everyone stays in control all the time. Yes, paying for someone's company and treating them like a toy is pretty toxic. But Mahasamut is not in a weak position, he is never cornered, he knows exactly what he wants and has willingly signed the contract. Same for Tongrak, he can back up from the contract whenever he wants, and even if Mahasamut is very assertive most of the time, the few times where he actually is serious about needing space, Mut respects it.
What I find the most toxic in a lot of dramas is how one of the main (usually the Top/ more masculine figure) is always in control of everything. It'd be too long to explain but I'm sure some people know what I'm talking about. Here, it's not the case. Mahasamut is just some simple guy who goes along with the situation, and Tongrak tries to be in control but in the end they're always on the same level. So for me, it was not toxic, and that's very refreshing. Still, I found it weird how everyone (Rak, his mother, Connor, Prin) had a relationship with someone they initially paid for. Not sure that paying for love is such a common thing in Thailand, yet they treated it as if it was super normal.

I'll finish by saying that I was surprised that most people didn't like this drama, cuz out of all the thai dramas I've watched this is the only one I would recommend to someone even if it was not perfect. I'll keep watching new ones in hope to find gold.
