Story
WOW, what a journey! I dont get why it got such a low rating...
Its a family melo drama, which also included elements like friendship, success, violence, crime.
Its hard to tell, what the story is exactly about, because if I tried to explain the story, I would have to spoil you. Its so complicated, but in such a good way. I was really surpised, the story was so new, not like one of the 100 plots we´ve already seen. It was such (to me at least) new concept...
I loved that you never knew what was going to happen next. Unless like many other dramas, you can never tell how this episode or drama is going to end. Whenever you think you know, youll be surprised & shocked. Almost every episode has a cliffhanger, that will make you go crazy.
I started this drama crying and ended it crying. Im not lying, there was hardly an episode where I didnt have to cry. So be prepared...if you think youre mentally not strong enough to go through all this hardship, dont even start it! lol
But there will also be cute funny moments, especially between BaekWon&DoYoung;
Childhood episodes will go till episode 11. Im usually the kind of drama-watcher who gets bothered by childhoo eps and just want to skip to the adult-episodes.
But I dont know how the producer made it to completely got me hooked from the first episode, from now on I will never judge childhood-episodes of a drama. lol

Acting/Cast
Uee:
She was actually the reason I started this drama. After finishing Ojakgyo Brothers I thought I wouldnt love her more...but damn, she was even better in this one. Cant believe what a great actress she is! Whenever she cried (and she cried a lot! lol) it was so hard to believe that she was just acting. Her crying will tear your heart apart and make you cry, too.
Baek Woon is such a good hearted girl, who would do everything for her family and for those who need help. But still she manage it not to be that kind of puppy-main leads, we know from other dramas.

Jung Ill Woo:
Thats the first Ill Woo drama Ive ever watched. And I immediately fell in love with this guy. He made it to potray Do Young perfectly, who is a nice and cute guy, but going through hell because of some family matters. I cant imagine someone better than JIW for this role.
(Now i gotta marathone all his dramas!)

Kim Sang Joong:
WOW! That ahjussi is really daebak! I know him from City Hunter, where he played a kinda cold hearted father...but in this drama, he is the nicest and most warm-hearted dad youve ever seen in dramas. This will make you fall in love with him.

Jo Min Ki:
And that ahjussi is just a perfect villain. lol If you already know him from Two weeks and know how crazy and mad he was...youll be completly surpised. In this drama he is even worser...I mean of cours not the actor, but his role Jin Ki. He wouldnt be such a great actor, if he didnt scare me every episode.

Music
I didnt notec many songs in this drama...but there is one song, that got me goosebumps: The Vow by ALI.
This song was just played at the right moments and made you cry even more while the situation/scene was already so heartbroken.

Rewatch Value
Im not giging it 10/10 only because its so long to rewatch the whole drama...but Im 100% sure I will rewatch some of my favourit episodes. Im already missing it so much...(with 41 episodes you grow a lot with the main leads)

Overall
PERFECT DRAMA! GIVE IT A TRY! ITS WORTH!

I really enjoyed watching this drama, even though I usually avoid dramas with a lot of episodes. The reason I decided to watch it was because I hadn't watched anything with Jung Il Woo for a long time and I was curious about Uee's acting. c:

Story - For me, the story seemed both strong and weak at the same time. While the concept of the story is good, there were definitely some draggy parts that made me feel the drama was unnecessarily long. This drama is mostly about family, secret birth identity and ambition (that goes very wrong). During the episodes the child actors starred in, it's more based on family but when the kids grow up, the episodes focus more on company-related ambitions where people fight for ownership of the company. If you don't like depressing dramas, this drama can be sad at times because there are a lot of emotional moments in the family that made me cry a lot. It's not surprising that the drama had draggy episodes though, most long dramas do. There are episodes where you can't wait to see the next episode but there are also episodes where you can get a bit bored. There's good and bad about the story.

Acting/Cast - The child actors were incredible and I really enjoyed the episodes they were in, I even missed them when they grew up. But I also liked Jung Il Woo and Uee, they were also good in portraying their characters. Do Young (played by Jung Il Woo) was so funny in the first half of the drama, he offered a lot of comedic relief with of his antics. I love how he acts like he's an idiot (especially during the childhood episodes) but in reality, he's actually really smart. I feel like in the second half of the drama he cried too much for my liking but I think that can be justified since he had a pretty good reason to. Kim Baek Won (played by Uee) was an interesting main character. She's a not intelligent but not stupid sort of character, she's the main character that fights for what she believes is right. Although her inference with things was annoying sometimes (mostly in the beginning). She's a bad ass when hunting criminals down as a police officer xD She can be weak and break into tears though, both main characters kind of cry a lot but in their situation it makes sense. Chun Won, the second lead character... let's just say she's the typical annoying character that gets in the way of things often. She has a serious ambition and does anything she can to get what she wants. She's smart, like Do Young but she abuses her intelligence. She seems to have no conscience throughout the series. Man Won, second lead actor. He's a pretty cool guy, he can be unreasonable and impulsive but he looks out for Baek Won and cares about his family. There are a bunch of characters that you'll hate and a lot you'll probably love. Young Won (Baek Won's youngest brother) was my favorite character, he was so adorable when a child and when he grew up he continued to be awesome!

Hi, I´m back!! :D
Ok, first of all: Golden Rainbow is my first Makjang, so I don´t really know the Feeling of watching a makjang Drama... But somehow I am convinced that Golden Rainbow is a makjang Drama with low makjang. By that I mean that there isn´t so much typical makjang in it.
Story: Well... It´s a very nice Story but it becomes interesting only after 10 episodes or so...
Acting/cast: Ouh!! I liked the mature cast, after they grow up. I mean, there is Jung Il Woo!! Ok, I know I´m a bit biased (ok not a bit, a lot) but he is such a good actor! Uee... Hmmm... First I thought that she´s crying way too much (my eonni thought that too, she isn´t watching Golden Rainbow but she sometimes watched a bit with me/catches some parts) but yea she´s crying a lot but if you consider the things that happen to her and her Family, then you will believe, that it isn´t exaggerated!
Music: The Music is the Thing that is the worst... :D The OSTs are ok, but there isn´t a variety that I would have liked for a Drama with 41 episodes! It reminds me of Boys Before Flowers, although there aren´t just one or two Songs I always first remember "ALMOST PARADIIIIIISEEEEEEEEEE!" by T-MAX and "Because I´m stupid" by SS501! Here in Golden Rainbow I always remember "The Vow" by Ali!
Rewatch Value: To be honest, I don´t see any sense in rewatching Dramas, movies or rereading books (although I myself rewatch dramas, movies and reread books...) because you always will remember what will happen and how it will end! Of course you Forget all These things after a Long or not so Long time (for me it´s a Long time... :D) but as soon as you start rewatching or rereading you remember most of it! But... still I´m sure I´m going to rewatch stuff and also Golden Rainbow! ^-^
Overall: I give this a 10, although it has a tendency to 9, but the ending... I have to give it a 10 xD I think it´s a good makjang-introduce-drama because I think it isn´t to makjang-ish (lol I just created a new word! xD) and it has good acting in it!

first, the music was...wow!!! seriously the songs are still in my head. and the acting was great too.the kids especially, okay this drama was full of cliches like spoiler alert: lost children and blah blah, but around that was betrayal, love, sacrifice and the the evil you can think of, well most of what you can think of with a slight hint of humor since Jung Il Woo was in it. and . Uee is amazing as well.its a bit tragic which covers up all the cliches and makes it more realistic. though i don't think anybody can be gifted with life like do young. watch it you'll get what i mean. i loved it

okay so I'm just gonna say that I watched this drama over a span of 10 months (I had to stop because of schoolwork) but once I returned back to it (around episode 14) I immediately grew reattached.

The characters start to grow on you as you progress through the drama, and most of them, besides the notable "bad guy" are lovable, or at least understandable. How attached I grew to the characters really affected how I viewed the rest of the show. When something horrible happened, I cried...and I mean really cried in some parts. When something great happened, I was of course happy, but kept at the edge of my seat with what could potentially happen next.

The music..oh man the music. It's very beautiful, and the choice of music at certain parts of the story may also intensify your emotions.

The story itself is what you'd expect from a melodrama; a lot of coincidences, a lot of crazy things happen, and a lot of tragedy and heartbreak. I admit there are some slower parts to the drama, but what else would you expect from a 30+ episode drama? I think what makes up for the slow parts is the chemistry of the cast (particularly the main roles) and the plot twists. Some parts are predictable once you get further into it, thanks to a certain character's history...but the opposition really adds those plot twists. I kept watching episode after episode some nights because I just had to know what would happen next.

Overall I think this drama is well done. I admit some things that happened in the drama were highly unrealistic but again, that's a "makjang" drama for you :'D . I loved it, and I would recommend it to anyone looking for a good melodrama that they could laugh and cry with.

Golden Rainbow as written by your..... Queen of *Makjang*! I would like to think I am an expert in this department, or I would not title myself as such!

On the Makjang scale of Makjang, this one is a 10. So, if you are not a fan.. please move on. This 41 episode wont keep you engaged, despite how much our Lee Jae Yoon's muscles wish to squeeze from this clothes, Uee's cuteness makes us squish, or Jung Il Woo smiles makes you swoon.

All of that being said, it has our classic young actors in the younger years and for several episodes. It always does something special to me when I see these young poeple together. If they are cast, you can generally know its going to be a great Makjang that will make to my 10's list. But, to each their own.

I binged this show in between kids, school and work but, I made it in a few day's time. There are some cute little side characters and comic relief. But, for the most part, this is a very, very serious drama.

There is heartbreak, insufferable characters, smiles, cries and all the like in this drama from start to finish. It will take a great comedy to get me out of this drama being over. Once again, I have made a few friends in this drama and the characters are going to last me a lifetime.

Cheers to everyone involved in this drama. It made my heart sing. In close, if you are a fan of deep Makjang such as I am, please watch this from start to finish. No fast forwarding. Only rewinding. <3

This was the first ever Makjang I had watched, and it didn't disappoint!

I really enjoyed the storyline- and I was pleasantly surprised in how it pulled me in each week, despite the length of the drama, and I really loved the main characters! It was full of cliches, but I really enjoyed it! there was lots of backstabbing and family feuds, and twists in every episode practically! there were LOADS of characters I hated- too long to list, but I absolutely LOVED the Kim family :D

Overall, the cast were fantastic, especially the Uee and Jung il-Woo! I thought the actors who played the younger versions were great, as were the later cast!

Music was great- really added to some of the scenes- Ali 'the Vow' is the best in my opinion!

I'm giving it a low rewatch, as I don't rewatch dramas much!

Overall, probably the best Makjang to start off with! It deserved MUCH better ratings!

Weak is the keyword here.

Not a good orphans focused story. The flashbacks of the kids/teen were too damn long, boring, annoying and 100% deafening. My ears! After that, there was a whole lot of nothingness until the last few episodes where things started moving again. The story was too thin it would barely fit a 16 episodes run. Most of the cast were unlikable. The drama was full of annoyances but if I had to pick a one that stood out the most it would be Chun Won worthless existence. Chun Won knew the other orphans for a very very short and brief time when they were young, yet they considered her as one of them and let her get away with anything and everything all the time. Also, weak generic justice!

Not sure as to why it has a low rating. I thought the story line was great. The younger years was good but it got even better when they got older. To me the dad (Han Joon) was the heart of this drama. He did everything he could for his kids and supposed friends who he called family. The one fault that he had was that he was too forgiving to those that did him wrong. I didn't like Eok Jo and his family...omg they got on my nerve with their many schemes....even after Han Joon passed away they were still up to no good ugh

speaking of Han Joon passing away....omg i had tears flowing nonstop watching episode 27. they didn't have to kill him off IMO.....i'm getting teary eyed while typing this.

Jung Il Woo was fun to watch with his crazy antics, his serious side and tender moments lol
it took me a few episodes to realize that he was the guy in the movie Flower Boy Ramen Shop. The very first KDrama that I watched back in 2011
