Daisaku, Kyujuro, Shinnojo, and Namunosuke are ordered by the head, Serizawa Kamo, to go on a long distance to help with the renovation of a Mito Domain mansion in the outskirts of Kyoto. Hijikata finds the decision unproductive and prefers that the members stay and train for the fight, which Serizawa refuses to agree to as he prefers a battle of wits to a battle of swords. Shibukawa runs into Gengo Shonai, who turns hostile the moment he learns that he is from Mibu Roshigumi but is unable to act as Okita, Sanosuke, and Yamanami arrive. Unlike the town center, where the tension is high as the Choshu Clan and other anti-Shogunate forces gain momentum, the four new recruits spend a pleasant time in the peaceful countryside, as if they are taking a momentary rest. Shibukawa meets a beautiful girl while waiting for Serizawa-san to return from an errand. Daisaku reminisces about his past and the conflicting paths ahead. Kyujuro comforts him yet doesn’t force him to speak out, and Daisaku breaks down. Kyujuro wonders whether he had cried out of joy or at the pain of standing at a crossroads. He says that he had no way of knowing anymore and that all he could do was just remember the beautiful stars he had seen with Daisaku. (Source: Drama-Otaku; edited by MyDramaList)
