Season: 1

Matsudaira suspects that their movements are being monitored by anti-shogunate factions and begins to suspect that there may be a spy within the Mibu Roshigumi. To dispel Matsudaira's suspicions, an order is issued to the troops that "unauthorized outings are prohibited" for a while. Daisaku and Kyujuro are confined to their quarters except for designated patrols, focusing on sword practice. Meanwhile, Kyujuro is asked by Serizawa Kamo to deliver a letter to the mansion of the wealthy merchant Nueno-sama, heading out alone into the city. When he sees Shibukawa and attempts to follow him, he is attacked by the anti-shogunate rebels but is saved by the same mysterious man who had rescued him from Gengo earlier. The man feeds him medicine, shows him the globe, and teaches him how absurd and futile the clashes and murders amongst the Japanese themselves were when there were much bigger issues transpiring. He says that he would regret taking revenge and welcomes him back anytime, introducing himself as Sakamoto Ryoma of Tosa. Kyujuro returns and is questioned by Hijikata as to why he was late. Learning about Shibukawa, he decides to question him, but Serizawa scoffs at his desire to be at the beck and call of the Aizu Lords and tells him to let the spies be and use them to their benefit. Hijikata, however, says that he does not understand. Sanosuke exclaims about the run-in with Gengo Shonai, and Hijikata asks Kyujuro to inspect. He finds Shibukawa meeting a girl in secret and decides to let him off. However, Daisaku draws his sword and accuses him of being a Choshu spy. Saito Hajime takes Shibukawa away despite Kyujuro's attempt to speak for him. Shibukawa pleads his innocence to Hijikata. Serizawa Kamo begins to understand that Hijikata is no longer going to listen to him. (Source: Drama-Otaku; edited by MyDramaList)
