If I count back, this year marks the 12th year of me and Asian music. I was in 3rd grade in 2003, when I was first introduced to Asian music. Music to me plays a really big part in my life. I don't know if I have ever said this before, but during 2007-2009 I was actually bullied a bit at school. Reason: Liking Asian music and being myself. What an immature reason. So that's also a reason why I'm always wearing earphones - to avoid making contact with people. Still in 2015 it's also a barrier to prevent people from talking useless stuff to me. It also allows me to escape the reality to the world of music ~
Many of you might now me as " the person who has watched so many dramas". I started my journey with Asian dramas in 2008 and since then I have watched over 400 dramas. My 400th drama was Kill Me, Heal Me by the way.
Music also plays a big part in dramas. It can make or break the drama. OST (Original Soundtrack) is a very important factor when it comes to dramas. There are times when the OST is so good that you actually forget to concentrate on drama. There are also times when you sing along and dance to the OST on your chair. Admit it. I can't be the only one who does that? There are also times when the OST is so bad that you want to finish the drama super fast or might even drop the whole drama. Thus, it can make or break the drama.
But at least the it leaves an impact. It's better than boring OSTs that you can't even remember. OST also helps to relive the drama moments through music videos and helps to soothe your post-drama depression. That's it for the long intro and now getting to the list. Here are MY Top 10 Most Memorable Songs from dramas throughout the years. In no particular order because it would be too much to ask from me.
Mario & Nesty - Never Say Goodbye (My Girl OST)
I don't know how many of you have watched the drama. Those who have must remember this song. I think this is a really good example of an old school drama OST. I listen to this one a lot as it's downloaded on my phone ~ This song is going to be 10 years old soon, so the quality isn't that good. I've listened to this one so much that I can sing it. In my head... When I'm alone... Totally love this song ! If you still haven't watched this drama, watch it now. It's a must watch.
Rainie Yang - Too Confused (Miss No Good OST)
I don't get how the rating is so low when the drama is so good? I personally love dramas like this. Another thing I love is Rainie Yang's singing voice. She has sung so many good OSTs, but this one is my personal favorite (so far). This drama has some damn good kiss scenes by the way! One thing I like about this song is the way they made the music video ~ The style is so nice !
ORANGE RANGE - Ikenai Taiyou (Hana Kimi OST)
NAA NAA NAA NANANA NAA NA NAAAAAaaaa ~~~ *ahem* This one holds a special place in my heart because Hana Kimi was my very first drama ever. Watched it over 3 times and listened to this song probably hundreds of times. To me Orange Range songs equals summer! Whenever I do a summer playlist I have to include their songs on the list as well. I want to go to Okinawa someday ~~ Once you listen to this song it will be stuck in your head for weeks :---) You're welcome.
Utada Hikaru - Prisoner of Love (Last Friends OST)
I can not write an article about OSTs and leave out the goddess of OSTs now can I? I can't! So to include her on the list I had to think wisely which one of her songs to include. Because there are SOOO MANY OSTs she has done and so many songs I love. But I chose the one that is somewhat special to me as it was the first song I ever heard by Utada Hikaru. I think. Anyways, if you have missed her songs you are missing out a lot. So make sure to check this one out !
ARASHI - truth (Maou OST)
I watched this one a long time ago so I don't remember much about the drama itself, but I do remember the song by ARASHI as they are my loves. This one is still my absolute favorite song by them. However, I can't seem to find a music video of this one from youtube... Johnny-san, please give the boys an official channel. Same with ARASHI, they have also done multiple songs to dramas. At least on pretty much every drama where one of the members acts. And that is many! I should watch the Korean version someday. To freshen my memory at least. I hope the video works. If not click here to watch. Can I just say how good they look? And the violins are so pretty ;W;
Alan Kuo - Zero/Ling (MARS OST)
I don't know, this one just has that something. That something that makes it so special to me. I recommend you to check out the lyrics later ~ If it wasn't for this song I think I would have given a smaller score for MARS which I love a lot. So much that I also read the manga. But who knows, maybe it was this song that made me love the drama so much? I don't know. Songs like this just are love. Or then it's the mandarin and his voice. I don't know. How many times I have said that? I don't know that either. There's some feeling and pain in this song that makes me love it. See for yourself ~
Block B - Burn Out (Ghost OST)
Block B is life. That's all I need to say. In this song P.O's low voice rap, Taeil's high notes and U-Kwon is just my love. I'm sorry I had to include this because I'm still not mentally over of their concert about a month ago. They came to Finland. To Finland! Finland. Oh, about the song. I love it. A lot! Ghost is one of my fav dramas, and this song just makes it better ~ I listen to this song (along with Block B's other songs) on a weekly basis. I refuse to believe that it's been already 3 years since this drama aired. Time sure flies fast... I remember someone else also included this same song in their article last year. This song gives me life. The lyrics! Can they do more OSTs someday?
Lee Hong Ki - Still (You're Beautiful OST)
This song alone has made me re-watch the drama 2 times. And almost 2 other times. That shows how much an OST can affect you. In my case this hits right in the feels because Lee Hong Ki's sorrowful and powerful voice is just - ungh - too much. I love FT Island and I hope I can see them live someday. I don't dare to download this because I know I would be watching You're Beautiful on a monthly basis then. And I need to watch other dramas as well. I might even rewatch it soon because it gives me feels as it was one of my first K-dramas ever. It holds a special spot in my heart as well ~ I hope I don't cry while listening to this and writing... Am I a bit too sentimental ? Another song from the drama that I love a lot is the theme song "Promise".
Every Single Day - Echo (I Hear Your Voice OST)
When I watched this drama I got a shock. HOW can an OST be this good? I mean. It kept haunting my head and I was humming to it on public transportation, grocery store, shower and everywhere. Weeks after I had finished the drama. HOW is that possible? I found one of my new favorite bands called Every Single Day through the drama. BesidesI Hear Your Voice hey have done OSTs to Gap Dong, Miss Korea and Pinocchio for example. I have downloaded all their songs that I know of. I absolutely love their music. I can now recognize their OSTs when I hear them because their style has glued on my heart and mind so well. I gotta say a big thank you for the drama! And a big thank you for the band for making the OST to a great drama. I love this song to the point where I even tried to make a cover of it. Came to my senses after hearing how I sound when singing :---) I need to rewatch this drama. The feels hit me hard right now. Video contains spoilers of the drama!
Jiro Wang - Pretend We Never Loved
(Absolute Boyfriend OST)
Why is the rating so low with this one also? I personally prefer this version over the original Japanese version. This one makes more sense and is more realistic. I didn't know I would love this song so much, but it hit me hard when a few weeks after finishing the drama I came across the lyrics of the song. It's perfect. Jiro Wang is perfect. The song is perfect. Music video is perfect. Everything is perfect. Lyrics are the most perfect! I totally recommend you all to watch this drama and feel the feels with me. This is way much better than the original version. At least in my opinion. Read the lyrics at the same time so you can feel the song. Video contains spoilers of the drama!
That concludes MY 10 Most Memorable Drama Songs. It was a nice variety wasn't it? There might be a 2nd part coming if I'm inspired enough to write one someday. Share your favorites with me ~ !
