Lee Min Ho joins Kim Tae Hee, Kwon Sang Woo, and Lee Byung Hun in the celebrities that are suspected of tax evasion.
On March 2, several media outlets revealed that Lee Min Ho and his company MYM Entertainment are also involved in the irregular (special) tax investigation of the Seoul Regional Tax Office. According to reports, the actor and the company got fined hundreds of millions of won back in September 2020.
Lee Min Ho's agency MYM Entertainment clarified all the allegations of tax evasion and shared that the actor has always been diligent with paying his taxes and he has never been involved in a disgraceful incident regarding taxes.
Recently, the National Tax Service began auditing 84 people including athletes, webtoon writers, Youtubers, and celebrities. Lee Byung Hun, Kwon Sang Woo, and Kim Tae Hee were involved in alleged tax evasion but all of them denied the claims and also shared that they have fully paid the additional taxes and fines because of an accounting error.
Lee Min Ho's agency MYM Entertainment released an official statement regarding the issue.
Hello, this is MYM Entertainment.
We created this statement to correct the misunderstanding regarding our agency and artist.
Lee Min Ho and the agency both are diligent in fulfilling all the tax payments in a timely manner and without cause for any disgraceful incident.
The issue arose because of the case "compensation for damages caused by the use of illegal portrait rights" whether it will be subjected to taxation or not. After a recent tax audit, the amount was then identified as taxable earnings. With regard to this, we have fully paid the additional tax accordingly.
Thank you.
In 2023, Lee Min Ho is set to debut on Netflix with the upcoming K--drama Ask the Stars with Gong Hyo Jin, Han Ji Eun, Oh Jung Se, Kim Joo Heon, and Lee El.
