The first stills of actress Shin Ye Eun from Jeongnyeon: The Star is Born have been unveiled.
Jeongnyeon: The Star is Born tells the story of Yoon Jeong Nyeon, a girl with a talent for singing who strives to become the best Gukgeuk (national theatre) actress. The K-drama is set against the backdrop of the immediate aftermath of the Korean War in the 1950s, an era characterized by poverty.
Actress Shin Ye Eun comes as Heo Yeong Seo in the K-drama. Heo Yeong Seo is an elite member of the Maeran Theater Company, acknowledged for her exceptional talents in singing, dancing, and acting, topped with a privileged background. To escape the shadows of her famous soprano mother and sister, Yeong Seo gave up vocal music to learn theatre. After excruciating effort, she gained recognition for her talent, ultimately becoming the top trainee of the Maeran Theater Company — a vain "ice princess."
Heo Yeong Seo engages in a healthy competition with Yoon Jeong Nyeon (Kim Tae Ri), a singing genius who arrives in Seoul alone from Mokpo to pursue her dream of becoming a national theater actress. Viewers can anticipate Shin Ye Eun's multifaceted portrayal of Yeong Seo, a "self-made genius" who finds herself shaken by the unexpected coming of "born genius" Yoon Jeong Nyeon.
Director Jung Ji In stated, "Yeong Seo is an elite of Maeran Theater Company no one can approach, [but she gradually changes after meeting Jeong Nyeon, and] I focused on capturing this transformation in the directing," adding, "Additionally, I asked actress Shin Ye Eun to speak with precise enunciation for Yeong Seo's character, who is like a sharp Seoulite. Since Jeong Nyeon speaks in a Jeolla dialect, I wanted to emphasize the contrast [between the characters] even more clearly."
Jeongnyeon: The Star is Born is scheduled to premiere on October 12. More news about the K-drama's global OTT platform is yet to come.
