I used to watch a lot of Japanese things - Jdrama, Anime... but currently I prefer Kdrama. Perhaps I find it a refreshing change of pace, or I'm just leaning towards romances right now, but I find that they tend to grip me more. That said, it's really a mood thing. It's the same with music, I listen to Kpop most of the time but there are moments when I just want something with a bit more "bite" and I turn back to Jrock. Mm, overall though I'd say Japan/Japanese stuff (aka drama, etc). There is greater variety to their drama and the culture interests me more. The only thing I really prefer from Korea is the music.
I think one reason why you said that Kdramas grip you more is because of their slower pace. You get more time to digest what you watch.

I think that's exactly what he said? But yeah I agree otherwise since I prefer J-drama more.

in comparison with Korean ones, yeah ..... with less cliche
AND that is my statement even if you torture me lol
Hahahah easy easy :D Since people(from other websites too) have pointed it out, it seems that the production value of Kdramas tend be higher than the Japanese ones. I checked(take note, checked, not watch) episodes of some Korean classics like Endless Love and Lovers in Paris. I have to agree with that claim.
The thread "Koreans Vs. Japanese" has been merged with the already existing "Japanese dramas vs Korean dramas".

As far as less cliches, yes I would agree but J-dramas have their fair share of cliches, as does any medium.

The so called "moral lesson wrap up" is present in most school jdramas. It usually tells about the importance of friendship and/or teamwork :)

yes, they have cliche a lot but much much much less than their neighbor
in korean ones if you class drama without the Piggyback rides the list will be much short than with that ridicule offense to donkeys
I believe both drama have their strengths and weaknesses (Japanese and Korean Drama). But overall, I like to watch the Japanese Drama (J-Drama) more than Korean Drama (K-Drama).

Cheers!
I prefer j-dramas over k-dramas. Japanese dramas are much better!
Gems can be found in J-Drama and K-Drama both
overall entartainment I get more from a K-Drama usually, but there has been JDrama that with unique storyline I really loved and had so much meaning to them , KDrama Writers might never imagine bringing such topics (eg. GTO , IS , Nagareboshi ,Battle Royale and many other unique topics)
At the other hand there are (Healer, Its Okay that is Love and some historical ones Six Flying Dragon or Empress Ki ) that have amazing acting and feels to them which is not found in Jdramas.

applaud for those who try both before saying anything about one of them .
I used to watch only jdramas and now I only watch kdramas. Both have a lot of great dramas that I hugely enjoyed watching, and both also have dramas/movies that I didn't like much. The styles can be widely different, you can see certain types of characters only in Korean dramas, certain kind of comedic aspects or themes only in jdramas.

It's not because I don't like jdramas that I don't watch them anymore. I think that one of the main reasons that I don't go back to jdramas anymire is that I don't keep track of Japanese entertainment news and simply don't know (and don't have much interest in knowing) what's on. There are no actors or actresses I follow of which i would like to see the latest stuff. So whenever (and this is rare) I see plots of jdramas, there's nothing there that attracts me except the plot, and that's just not enough to motivate me.

(Also, I always had the impression --please correct me if I'm wrong-- that the kdrama watchers seem much more active on here than jdrama watchers--this is what drove me away from the forum when i first signed up, there was not enough action in the jdrama section ^^'-- which might be a factor now that contributes to me actively keeping on watching kdramas as well)

@Nezumi

We're active. Just we get lost amongst the K-drama crowds.
I really liked  what @femmedesneiges said, maybe the proportion is somehow off that makes it like the forum is all KDrama fans , I proved myself of this by making a thread , there are even less CDrama or ThaiDrama fans , even thou they have some good dramas . they rarely talk abut them or make threads , and Taiwanese doesn't have a separate section on the forum.  sorry if its off topics , I think it relates to the matter.
I enjoy both.

I was introduced to dramas from Japanese dramas and, for a while, only watched them. Not because I wasn't interested in Korean dramas, but I didn't know much about them in general. I eventually tried a kdrama and it wasn't one I enjoyed, but my second attempt was much better. I now watch both Japanese and Korean dramas and have been branching out into others as well.

I don't have a clear preference on one or the other. It depends on the individual drama. Some Japanese dramas tackle issues I don't see often in kdramas, and the production value of kdramas are usually better than jdramas, but I've seen enough exceptions to both to know that is not always the case. There are very well acted and produced jdramas and kdramas which tackle deeper issues than the typical cliches.

To be honest, I look at plot a lot more than the country it is from and decide what I want to watch from there. I'd happily discuss both jdramas and kdramas any day.
