Although they had stopped updating it, the old Dramacool website was still accessible. This was great as it was a treasure trove of old dramas. However, I think that it has gone completely. I have tried to access it but get nothing. Perhaps, it is just my system. Have others had the same problem?

Yeah it's gone for good.

Something is up and claiming to be Dramacool under several TLDs that I haven't seen them use before. Some uploads are dated from this month.

It won't last.  As long as they're stealing brand new content the corporate copyright hounds will hunt them down. If they only had fansubs of unreleased doramas they'd still be under the radar.

@TimiZero: thank you for confirming the really bad news. Now, the question is how many of the fee-charging services have much of a back-catalogue, and how much am I prepared to pay.

@isang18: I have seen that site but it does not appear to have any old programmes. For context, over the Christmas and New Year holidays, I watched City Hunter (2011) and Lovers in Prague (2005) using the Dramacool "old" site.

Alternatively, googling the name of any particular drama might help as well. I'm sure it will be somewhere online as long as it's a popular one, whether on filehost (streamable or not) or torrent. But of course I can't guarantee its existence and you might have to know the title you want to search beforehand.

I appreciate the suggestion. I think I will be doing some researching and hunting this weekend.

Use alternate search engines not powered by Bing or Google. Yandex, for example, does not filter "naughty" hits to the extent that the US-based services do.
