Believe watched 3 of them, and each one had a very famous Japanese Swordmaster Samurai warrior, from early2oth Century? Who was he, and was that based upon a real historical figure?

What was the title? Could it be Samurai X or Rurouni Kenshin? The one played by Takeru Satoh whose character had red long hair and an X mark on his (left?) cheek. If it was, then it's a fictional character inspired by Kawakaki Gensai according to wikipedia.
