because they watched some dramas written by the writers and didn't like it.. (?) :P
me too, usually when i consider to watch a drama, i'll check synopsis, casts, and writers..
if the writer(s) wrote 2 or more dramas i didn't like, then i won't try for another chance :P

for me..i like hong sisters..not for the story, but for the comedy..
the story almost always have the same "way",, stupid main female, very mean second female..
but new thing in BIG, there are 3 females.. :D
and they always have the turn point in the middle..you know,,in about episode 10-12, they know that the other one likes her/him too..
so, i never expect great story from them, as well as for BIG...i just hope for some good laughs.. :D
and great scenery of Gong Yoo..LOL

my point is - give BIG a chance who knows you might enjoy it. i myself is enjoying every episode. maybe i love gong yoo that much but its been awhile since he starred a drama. i totally missed him. GY can really pull off acting like a kid. and the chocolates abs is an added value... you wanna miss seeing those well defined yummilicious abs? well, i wont miss it. fangirling mode.

LOL..that abs...seriously, we have to thank to military service..LOL
they really give us bonus..not just having Gong Yoo come back to dramaland, but that was WOW..haha

i recently finished YB. i agree that female leads are sometimes annoying. hated minam in yb. she's the only character i hate in yb she goes overboard in her acting and i cant relate to her too naive kind of character. but nevertheless, i gave YB a 10. its fun watching them. for a romantic comedy its sure fun and entertaining. i watched romcom to lighten me up from work's stress. its a feel good drama so it does its purpose for me.

hong sisters' dramas may have loose ends but they are great with twisting funny beats out of dramatic and/or emotional moments. i may shed a tear or two but the funny twist is for sure hilarious.

Hong Gil Dong is a drama from the Hong Sisters?????

Unbelievable!!!!
I really enjoyed episode 4; I'm liking where this is going, so...despite Gil Da Ran's annoying behavior, I'm going to keep watching. Can't wait to find out the connection between Yeon Jae and Kyung Joon. Also, who doesn't love Gong Yoo's choco abs????

i never look at who the writer is xD and only half the time i look at the cast, usually i watch something cuz a friend told me to try it, and i get addicted easily

i think they talkin about the viewer rating comparing to the other drama with the same time slot.

Well, obviously you are both right. :) But since there are something like a million dramas out there which I could give a try to, I have to prioritize. I'm not saying Big is a bad drama - I have no idea, in fact - I'm just explaining why it's not on my top 10 want to watch list (or top 50).
I consider the script an indefeasible requirement of a drama. If the script is flat, than I expect at least stellar direction and acting to make up for it. To me, Gong Yoo is the ONE and ONLY reason why I would want to watch this show, and why I entered this thread in the first place... asking for advice.
The Hong Sisters debate is a consequence, not a cause. ;)
Thank you Skyecake! :)

what di choco abs means? well for me, if its chocolate it must be tasty and sweet when licked or as m &m puts it it melts in your mouth not in your hands... omo... pls blame my hormones... :P
I am watching..I am not wowed..so far the kid in the coma is my favorite lol...I kinda like his wackey girlfriend/almost stepsister too :D
Jeaniessi wrote: I wasn't annoyed the lead females in The Greatest Love, My Girl or Hong Gil Dong...I know others were though. But I am the wrong person to ask because I like The Hong Sisters... LOL

same here. I can see why some people would find them irritating, but I don't personally.

i like his acting, his facial expressions are hilarious, and I must say I love his physique *ahem* but I don't find his face all that attractive really. well, it's sort of growing on me though because of how much I love his goofy expressions. like at first I didn't get the hype over Binnie after just seeing photos but after watching Secret Garden I was like "ok now I get it". same with this guy, seeing pics of him I'm like "meh" but after watching him in action I'm starting to get it ;)
akai-kitsune wrote: Ohh, I don´t judge a drama depending on the script writers or the directors. If the story looks promising I´ll give any drama a go, but if the story is intersting the directors/ script writers are awsome, but the actors are just crap I´ll never watch it. The actors make a drama mostly as long as it is not boring like Marry me Mary or Love Rain.

this drama I definitly liked a lot for various reasons.

- Gong Yoo is a good actor( I´m not into his looks)
- The boy acting as Kyung Joon was not bad either.
- The family of the female lead is awesome. They remind me of some anime/manga family.
- The fact that Gong Yoo´s character is not really the main character, but its the character of that boy Kyung Joon.
- The Ost is fine...

I could go on, but that is enough.

Let's go on Aki-chan:

-The fact that the teacher is mostly the kid and the kid is the adult when it comes to "life experiences" cracks me up, and so true in real life with many people. Yet, most adult look down on teens. lol.
-The comedy is not Protect the Boss, but it is very funny and enjoyable. The school morning meeting scenes are my favorite.
-Supernatural elements
-The actor originally acting as kyung Joon is not bad at all... oh that's right, you already said that :p
-The main female lead can be annoyingly naive, but there is enough background to show you why ... 1. Her dad and his rocks collections, and 2. Her brother is not any less idiotic. But he is funny with his broken English. So, she is supposed to be naive to the point of annoyance. Some times there is the exception to the rule, in which the whole family is sort of on the dorky/silly side while there is just one member who is really bright. In this case, everyone resembles each other, and I love that.

What I dislike is when the main female lead is annoying and there is no excuse for her. Example: My Girl, but I understand others liked her... so I guess it all comes down to a matter of taste.

i kind of think that they're actually brothers..

i hope im wrong... but i think there is a connection when Kyung Joon recited the Russian Poem First Love by Ivan Turgenev to the school principal/ head... google told me that it was a story about a teenage boy who fell in love with an older women and later found out that she was in love with his father. so it might be... i hope not. that Yoon Jae is actually his father.

interestingly, the password to Yoon Jae's phone is Kyung Joon's birthday.
