Cliché drama with a not-so cliche female lead

I've recently been interested in watching a drama that has the most cliche events, but with a female lead who doesn't react to those "events" like normal cliche leads do. Where her reactions are unexpected/unpredictable, and you can cheer her on. The drama doesn't have to be THAT cliche, but should have certain events that would be predictable. 
A good example would be.. Secret Garden?

You Who Came From the Stars had some cliche events and was a rom com drama (+ alien), though I found the female lead to be a refreshing break from the typical nice and naive, overly trusting but rather bland female leads. She was far more three dimensional than most I see.
