So here's the article:

"Award-winning Japanese drama “Nodame Cantabile” will be remade for Korean television.

Broadcasting insiders said on January 27 that production company Group 8 has decided to produce a Korean version of “Nodame Cantabile.”

“Nodame Cantabile” first appeared in a Japanese manga magazine in 2001 and is the work of manga artist Tomoko Ninomiya. The classical music-themed manga has a total of 23 volumes, and over 26 million copies have been sold to date.

In 2006, Fuji TV adapted “Nodame Cantabile” into a drama, with the Ueno Juri as Noda Megumi and Tamaki Hiroshi as Chiaki Shinichi. The following year, Fuji TV made an anime version of the series. “Nodame Cantabile” was a huge hit, along with its OST and associated games. Two movie sequels to the drama were released in theaters in 2009 and 2010, with the original cast.

“Nodame Cantabile” was also immensely popular abroad; it was screened in places such as Taiwan and Hong Kong, and achieved 2% ratings when screened on cable in Korea.

2008 MBC drama “Beethoven Virus” had similar subject matter. The classical music-themed drama starred Kim Myung Min, Jang Geun Suk and Lee Ji Ah.

Group 8, which also did “Goong,” “Boys Over Flowers” and “Pretty Man,” is no stranger to drama adaptations of comics. The company plans to air the drama within the year, and is currently casting writers and actors. The drama has yet to find itself a broadcaster."

Alright, so what do you guys think about it? From the dramas they've produced, I've watched Goong and BOF. I dropped BOF, but I'm still watching Goong and it's pretty cute, so I'm torn between excited and scared for this adaptation. I mean, it can be a cute and awesome drama, or a very sucky one.

Oh, and any dream casts?
Korean can't do silliness the way Japanese do. I mean think about the Korean remake of Hana Kimi, that was a disaster. I really wish they would leave Japanese hits for Japan and just produce what they're good at instead.

I haven't watched the Japanese or Korean Hana Kimi, but with my experience with BOF, I agree. I mean, Hana Yori Dango is one of my favorite dramas. BOF... ugh. Maybe I'll someday finish it, but it's not in my current plans.
I just hope it's at least bearable.
I think i won't be watching it because Nodame Cantabile anime was just perfect for me -one of my all time favorites. Nodame 2006 was not bad either. I dont think a korean version will be able capture the true essence of Nodame Cantabile- the people, the humor, the passion, the masters in the making :)
That's what I'm thinking...I agree with everyone here. Korean drama can't capture sa manga-ish style of Japanese Nodame Cantabile. I think I will think twice or thrice before I start watching the Korean Adaptation, cause I might hate it as much as I love the original. I'm so afraid..I don't like hating drama...kekeke!!!

THIS.

It was about time, I've been actually wondering for quite a long time why they had not yet decided to make Korean version...
Who am I kidding, I'll be watching this, there's never enough Nodame-related-things in life xD also, I'm curious into how will they try to make this a decent version.

Like you guys said, this has a huge manga-ish style and silly comedy that it was just incredible how the Japanese drama version was able to capture it all without actually looking ridiculous, I think they did a pretty good job with the challenge, not to mention the actors (few exceptions).
But Korean have a different way of portraying things, all the "Japanese humor" and these "anime like characters" look absurd. I'm afraid the only way they can make it more convincing is by changing some things on the characters' personalities and adjusting them to the Korean style, which will end up on a story with a different atmosphere. Kind of like what happened to BOF: Makino went from been strong minded and capable of managing herself on the Japanese version to crying for every little thing and very fragile on the Korean one.
I don't know, just my first thoughts.
It will depend on the actors that they will select, but more likely, I will watch it. The way the musical pieces will be constructed/played and the way Chiaki and Nodame will be written will make or break this adaptation for me. The closer to the anime, the better. I love Nodame Cantabile franchise and considering the productions they made as mentioned, which I liked (Goong and BOF) it will not hurt for me to try. For Cast: Nodame : Gong Hyo Jin or Gianna Jun, Oh Yeon Seo (can be) Chiaki: Shin Ha Kyun, Kwon Sang Woo or Jo Ji Hoon I'm hoping it will be good or at least be decent enough.

I don't think they can pull it off well, specially if you want it closer to anime.
I won't argue with musicality cause it can be easily maneuver, but not it's anime/manga-ish style.
And Korean production is more on reality or in serious type of attacker when it comes to drama.

And those actors/actress you want to be Chiaki and Nodame...I know they are all good in their craft but I don't think they are suitable in this role....Remember, Chiaki and Nodame are College student specially Nodame she's more of High School/Elementary student than a College one. And it would be too trying hard if they play College student.

Well, I selected the casts mainly because I think they will suit the characters. Gong Hyo Jin and Gianna Jun were excellent on portraying comical roles, while the male leads I think can portray Chiaki's personality. Meanwhile I didn't consider their age there, so yeah.. I kinda agree with you on that. That's why as I have said, I will be encouraged to watch it more if they will select a better cast. As of now, I can't think of younger K-actors that has the range like Tamaki Hiroshi and Ueno Juri had on Jdrama version. I think I will try to watch it though and judge it after I've seen the production or at least the trailer they made.

Hey, don't be so pessimistic about it! I'll cross the bridge when I get there. We'll see. :D

The result on Beethoven Virus was not very good though... of course, it is not the same, we're talking about different actors, settings, story, production ¿? but my point is that even the musical aspect may not be that easy to pull off. Wondering how will that turn out.

I can't force myself to be positive about it...In all seriousness I'm really afraid. So afraid that one of my favorite drama ever which I never get tired watching it over and over again might be totally wreck with this adaptation. We saw many dramas/movies that get adapted even by Hollywood that went totally messed up. I'm afraid that the adaptation might gave me a nightmare...kekeke!!!

But of course I agree with you...We still don't know until we saw it. I just hope it won't flop like the other Jdrama adaptation Korean production do.
It's been so long since I watched Nodame, that I can't remember anything about it other than Nodame's "playing".. So I for one will be looking forward to a Korean version..
I'm torn. I'll definitely give it a try, but I'm skeptical. On the other hand, a few years back when someone mentioned a live-action of any manga/anime I was thinking there's something wrong with their brain, and now look at me XD Besides, there's nothing that will make me hate Nodame, in worst case scenario I'll just force it out of my brain. I'm good at selective watching :)
I know remakes aren't the Korean speciality but I love Nodame so much I HAVE to watch this. I hope I won't drop it like To the Beautiful You though... Maybe it'll be less funny but I want to watch something about music, friendship and college life ^^ As for the cast, please not an idol to play Nodame's character -_-
I know everyone will probably disagree, but I'm curious to see the korean remake. I loved Nodame, but the reason I didn't give it a 10 is because I thought some of the silliness just went way over the top. I'd like the show to still be silly, just not so much, but whether they can pull it off or not is a different story.
