Nirvana in Fire is no doubt one of the greatest Chinese dramas, and one of the greatest dramas of any country period.  What makes NiF so exquisite--the massive cast and scale, the multi-layered story, the intricate plotting, and nuanced expressions and dialogue--are also elements that can make it feel overwhelming or boring to uninitiated audiences.  This is especially true for international viewers that wouldn't have the same linguistic and cultural knowledge, or familiarity through historical CDramas to hold their hand.

Luckily, there are so many fans on the internet that have created recaps, reviews, explanations, and additional notes for this beloved show.  I will help post and organize them here for viewers' benefit.  If you find good additional info, please reply in the comments, and I will try to include it in this post.
