Not sure if this is quite what you're looking for, but Oshin is a great asadora designed to be a tribute to the struggles of the Japanese generation that grew up in the early 1900s and lived through both Japan's industrialization prior to WWII as well as the rebuilding of its economy afterwards. It follows Oshin, a girl born to a rural family, as she attempts to earn money to help support her family. The framing device is Oshin traveling with her grandson and reminiscing about the different places she lived, and from the first episode it is evident that Oshin will eventually become financially successful, so the question is not whether she will succeed, but rather how she will get there.
If you like stories about hardworking protagonists raising themselves up out of poverty, it's definitely one to check out.
