I'm looking for a female lead that struggles showing her real self, and keeps a front. Like the title she needs to be "superficial/fake." I'd prefer if it's a Korean show but Japanese and Chinese are okay.

Maybe ‘I need romance 3’?

  • Crash Landing on You - The FL has built up a persona as a callous, materialistic, superficial workaholic who is a tough boss and who doesn't need to rely on friends / family or any kind of relationship that isn't transactional. When she's thrown into a set of unique circumstances with the ML, he helps bring out her inner personality / softer side, where she easily makes friends and forms genuinely caring relationships, is not the picky princess she claims to be, and can be emotionally vulnerable with other people.
  • You Who Came from the Stars - The FL is a famous actress. She tries to use her wealth and material possessions and a tough / bitchy personality to hide her loneliness and insecurities, which stem in part from the fact that her mother pushed her to debut at a young age in order to gain benefits for herself from her daughter's wealth and fame. As the FL herself notes, top actresses who are always in the spotlight must choose one of two roles: the innocent angel or the cool bitch / ice queen, and they are criticized if they ever deviate from their role. She chooses to be a bitch so she doesn't have to be even more fake and pretend to be a sweet, innocent girl who can't stand up for herself. At least in the bitch role she can fight back when others give her shit.
  • Her Private Life - She isn't particularly superficial, but she is fake and keeps up a front in the sense that she takes desperate measures to hide a big part of her life from most people: she is a fangirl of a singer and devotes a huge amount of her time, money, and attention to taking his pictures, secretly attending his events, running a fan website / forum, and buying his merchandise.
  • It's Okay to Not Be Okay - On one hand this FL doesn't fit your description at all because she is always 100% herself and never tries to hide her unorthodox personality, but as one character explains to the ML, she always wears unusual and dramatic outfits (that are expensive and elaborate - which ties into her front of superficiality and materialism) as a form of armour to empower and protect herself. Her approach to emotional self-defence is to always be on the offence, and she finds it difficult to be truly vulnerable and to genuinely open her heart to others out of fear of rejection.
