Hello,

Looking for historical or fantasy Cdramas where Male lead is NOT the usual stoic/angry/silent/composed type.

I've been going through a bunch of cdramas lately and I notice this trend of MLs just being stoic/silent type. I know they're like that because a) they're written that way and b) they are usually the crown/prince/emperor/general/etc.

I've seen My Heroic Husband and Your Highness recently, so looking more of those kind of ML.

Currently watching Tiger and Rose but yeah the ML there is very stoic/composed

  • The Princess Wei Young - He's upright and honourable, but also has a sense of humour and wears his heart on his sleeve (he chases the FL).
  • Sound of the Desert - The ML is an energetic general who loves to tease the FL. The SML is the stoic, quiet, composed type.
  • The Story of Ming Lan - The ML's step mother (matriarch of the family) makes an effort to portray the ML (who is not her biological son) as a trouble-making black sheep. After years of that treatment, the ML basically gives up, stops trying to fight that portrayal, and makes some bad choices that live up to that reputation. But he had a good heart from when he was a young boy, and the FL helps him realize that he's made some bad choices. He has an energetic nature and sense of humour throughout, and his playfulness really comes out after he falls for the FL.
  • Arsenal Military Academy - In the very beginning the ML is a sad drunk. But he quickly falls for the FL and turns into a funny and energetic person who happily plays the clown or the fool to get her attention or to protect her.
  • Dreaming Back to the Qing Dynasty - The ML is friendly, earnest and energetic. His older brother (the SML) is the serious, stoic, silent and composed type.
  • Oh My General - The ML is very dramatic, energetic and funny in his own way. Definitely not stoic, silent or composed.

Take my recommendations above with a grain of salt, because in my view the ML in the Romance of Tiger and Rose starts out angry, stoic and composed but quickly melts and turns into a sweet and eager character with some lines and shenanigans (along with his servant) that are pretty funny after he falls for the FL

In addition:

  • Nirvana in Fire 2
  • The Untamed
  • Joy of Life
  • Ever night
  • the Sleuth of Ming Dynasty

... dramas I've mentioned are not romance centered

Thank you!

Young Blood

Chinese Paladin

Chinese Paladin 3

The Dark Lord

Probably a bit older but:

https://mydramalist.com/4248-swordsman

It's based on a book which is why you see so many adaptations listed on the page.

The book roughly translates to: The Smiling, Proud Wanderer

Swordsman is probably the one with the 'least serious' male lead I can think of. By episode two you'll see what I mean and you can decide if this is the type of lead for you.

Handsome Sibilings

Acient Detective

Ever Night

The Untamed
