Hello! Do you know any dramas (preferably Korean/Japanese) that has an original plot? I don't mind the genre, it can be about anything but I'm tired of seeing the same type of storylines every time. I really dislike unnecessary break-ups in the middle of a drama then get back together and no romance office please.

Some examples of original dramas I've seen :

Our Beloved Summer -  ex lovers meet each other thanks to a program and fall in love again. I just loved the concept of the drama where the leads are being filmed for a documentary

Prison Playbook - started this drama with no expectations but it's just so good! An inspiring ML, funny characters, drama in prison? Count me in!

The Package - this drama could have been a LOT more better but I fin ished this drama because the concept was interesting. The FL works as a tourist guide in France.

W - I don't usually like travelling dramas but this one is special because the FL travels from the real world to a webtoon

The Legend of the Blue Sea - drama with a mermaid

Love Alarm - the 1st season was okay but the 2nd... The concept's good tho, they could've done sm better.

Imawa no Kuni no Alice - this drama > Squid Game, surviving game, S2 coming, so far so good

Flower of Evil - ML is a sociopath and is faking to be in love with FL (they have a child 2gether)

Crash Landing on You - FL stuck in North Korea and falls in love with a North Korean

Thanks a lot for the suggestions :) !!

I'll also add a few ones from other countries. I'll add the country if it's not korea or japan. No preference order.

Sungkyunkwan Scandal - gender-bender historical romcom

Guilty Akuma to Keiyakushita Onna - About a cop falling in love with the main suspect.

Candle in the Tomb - China - about tomb raiders

Hikaru no Go  - China - adapted from the manga of the same name - it's about a ghost go player haunting a kid (well, nearly adult in the drama)

Kill Me, Heal Me  - about multiple personalities - I think it was the first drama made about this topic

Ma Boy - short gender-bender but it's the boy who poses as a girl here, unlike what we're used to see.

Psychopath Diary  - a man loses his memory and think the diary he finds is his. But this diary's owner is a serial killer. Very funny.

Raak Boon  - Thailand - about a magic box and ghost if my memory is right.

The Bridal Mask  - the bad guy turns good and become a hidden heroe

Garasu no Ie - A son falls in love with his step-mother

Dramaworld - a kdrama fan enters Dramaworld -it's a parody of dramas

Kimi wa Petto  - adapted from the manga of the same name - a woman accepts a man lives with her but he has to behave like her dog, litteraly

World of Himmapan - Thailand - An expedition in a parallel world, a land of fantasy.

And I'll stop here. There are others but those are the ones I found most originals and for which I gave a good rating.

Thanks a lot! I think I'll start with Psychopath Diary, seems nice!

It's Okay, That's Love it's more about the world building for me. I wonder if the first draft wasn't about a very conservative type who meets a woman living in a commune. It's a lot like the movie Sweet November with a few twist.

I Have a Lover a usual kdrama trope is a (very) morally grey, rich and cold ML falling for a happy, naive FL and trying to win her no matter what. Here the roles are reversed, in a makjang daily drama. One of my favorite dramas because of the growth of the three main characters.

High School King of Savvy A teenager living his older brother's life, chenanigans insue. The twist is: the characters are very multifaceted, the FL is very ordinary. Also the cinematography/atmosphere of the show is very different.

Familiar Wife This is actually about the break up of a marriage. But I like the themes used: If you could go back in time, are you sure you would wanna do anything different??  The characters are also very different from the usual (the FL especially is a bit... eccentric. Nothing unrealistic, I think we all know something who likes weird jokes).

Discovery of Romance seems to be like Our Beloved Summer

Last Friends Very hard drama, only watch if you're in a good place mentally, it will get worse before it gets better.

Thank you all for the great suggestions !

  • 37.5°C no Namida: A young woman with personal issues becomes a home caregiver for sick children.
  • Home Drama: A group of people from all walks of life who have a shared trauma move in together and over time become a family.
  • Kenja no Ai: A woman carries out a revenge plot that she has been planning for decades.
  • Move to Heaven: A glimpse into the lives of a young man and his uncle who are trauma cleaners.
  • Nagi no Oitoma: A young woman decides to quit her job and reset her life over the course of a summer.
  • The School Nurse Files: A school nurse defends her students from jelly monsters.
  • Sell Your Haunted House: An exorcist and and exorcist fraud team up to sell haunted houses.
  • Semi Otoko: A cicada turns into a human to pay back a woman who saved his life.

One Spring Night: The leads actually talk to  each other like adults, don't keep secrets from each other, work together to deal with their problems, etc. The best I've seen in this regard.

Reset:  A brand new one from China, the plot is original and riveting.  Held my interest from beginning to end.

Someone already mentioned My  Mister, but I'll do so again, because it's probably the best drama I've ever seen, in any language.
