Please recommend slice of life shows/films  that are historical, it can be from any country and time period but have a happy ending. I'm trying to avoid too much angst and tragedy atm.

Chef Hua - I haven't reached the end yet but the comments and reviews are all positive and talk about how it's a feel good drama. It's an angst free day-to-day life of the villagers and the FL's cooking dreams, very sweet and natural romance. I wouldn't watch on an empty stomach though, the cooking scenes are lovely! c:

I recommend New Life Begins. It chronicles the day-to-day life of the 6th Prince’s family, family members and friends. It touches on societal issues too. Not too much angst as the problem in which each character faces, tend to get solved quickly.

I'd suggest Story of Minglan as one of the most authentic-feeling recreations of a historical slice-of-life Chinese era (set in the Northern Song dynasty) .  It does get into palace politics later on, and is long even by Cdrama standards.  But the main leads are completely faithful to each other and the ending is good.

Also like Chef Hua and New Life Begins as lighter dramas.

My absolute favourite:

- Rookie Historian Goo Hae-ryung :D !!!

You may like Japanese asadoras. They are long shows but generally well written and focus on the lives of historical characters. My personal favorite is Natsuzora (2019). It tells the story of a young woman who grows up on a farm in Hokkaido and then moves to Tokyo to become one of Japan's early animators. You can search the Asadora tag on Mydramalist for the other ones.
