I guess this is a futile look for... but I ask anyways, any realistic chinese historical drama where the actors actually are the same age as the leads? I'd love to see true 14-15-16 year olds going to war, getting married, becoming parents, etc.. while struggling with their teenage hormones that neither wanted them to be fully adult nor children... it would be so interesting to watch, but I'm guessing nobody has done such a drama, which i think is weird now that we've basically been fed with any possible drama plot humanly conceivable.

Try some of Zhao Lu Si's historic dramas. She is pretty young and been in the business for a few years. Her oldest dramas are with her being a teenager.

I do think there are some dramas but probably not a lot. you have to keep in mind that Chinese entrance exams are really not easy , so the main focus is on studying and not acting. Plus acting schedules are sometimes very long. You cannot truly take off half a year of school that easily. So most are already older and done with school. Plus no underaged laws to be considered.
Its the same thing with western shows. Young teens that are in school are not often in main roles.

I wouldn't say these are realistic dramas though as these all have fantasy elements to them, but  these are young actresses playing characters that are similar to their real age.

  • Chinese Paladin, a fantasy wuxia drama, had a young Liu Yifei there. I didn't watch the series, but her character Zhao Ling Er (at least from the game it's based on) is 16, and I think Yifei was around that age when she filmed the drama.
  • The Blessed Girl, a fantasy romance drama, has Zhao Jinmai as the young female lead, and she filmed this when she was 17/18 I think.
  • Dreaming Back to the Qing Dynasty, a time travel romance drama, stars Li Landi as the female lead. This was a very young cast.

The Battle of Changsha, I think the twins’ real life ages were pretty similar as their intended ages, somewhat older but they were definitely teenagers set against the backdrop of WWII.

Edit: I actually just looked it up & Yang Zi was 17 playing a 16 year old (at first, she grows up throughout the show) so def close & her and her twin obviously look like teenagers
