1. The first bunny appears in Ep. 2 when Wei Wu Xian is awoken on the boat. They pass by animal-shaped candies and he chooses the bunny. [Tu Shen (Chinese: 兔神; pinyin: Tùshén, The Rabbit God), is a Chinese deity of love and sex between men.]
  2. In response to Jiang Chen's complaints about Wei Wu Xian's behavior, Jiang Yan Li says, "the teachings of our Yunmeng Jiang Clan have always been to fulfill one's desire and be carefree, right?" Funny how it matches WWX's personality so much more than JC's.
  3. Ep. 5, at the library, Wei Wu Xuan had been calling Lan Wan Ji, Xiōng Ji (Brother Ji). But when repeatedly ignored, he finally calls him Lan Zhan, fully getting his attention. And when Wei Wu Xuan switches the "Genuine Beauties" with Lan Zhan's book, LZ yells out, "Wei Ying" and kicks him out. It's the first time they call each other their given names instead of their courtesy names.
  4. Ep. 5, although Lan Zhan refuses the loquat from Wei Ying, he buys two jugs of the Emperor's Smile wine that Wei Ying likes. I always thought that Wei Ying fell first, but my re-watch tells me I'm wrong; Lan Zhan seems to have fallen first.
  5. Bunnies appear again in Ep. 6 when WY and LZ end up under the cold pool. In fact, the bunnies take up permanent residence at Cloud Recess and make multiple appearances from here on out.
  6. Also in Ep. 6: Even though LZ earlier explained that the headband should only be touched by a spouse, parent or child, LZ agrees to use it to bind himself and WY together so that they can get past the defense mechanism in the cavern. To me, this looks similar to hand-fasting, a Scottish ceremony of marriage. Once they meet Lan Yi, LZ and WY bow to her together, reminiscent of bowing to your ancestor during a Chinese wedding.
  7. Ep. 7 has WY calling LZ his zhiji, or soulmate, in front of Lan Xi Chen and Lan Qi Ren. Ep. 7 also has one of my favorite scenes. Again, we have a bunny, and we also have WY and LZ releasing a lantern together.
  8. Ep. 13, WY uses LZ's sacred headband to bind LZ's leg wound. Didn't he learn not to touch it when LZ told him only spouses, parents and children are allowed? Of course, WY just says, "At a critical time, you shouldn't care so much. Can it be more important than your injured leg?" Oh, and what does WY do to get LZ to spit up "stale blood" from his injury? WY starts stripping his own wet clothes and starts to help LZ out of his own wet clothes, panicking LZ and inducing a vomit reflex.
  9. Ep. 13, LZ shares the powdered medicine with WY for his burnt chest and urges WY to be more careful. He also urges a clueless WY not to flirt with anyone if he's not serious. LZ is being jealous here, but WY now thinks LZ is fond of Mian Mian.   [face palm emoji]
  10. Ep. 14, Lan Wang Ji hums a song he composed while he heals Wei Wu Xian, naming the song WangXian (aka WuJi).
  11. Ep. 20, WY calls LZ Light Bearing Lord instead of Lan Zhan, as if he wants to distance himself from LZ. Sure enough, they have their first major fight because LZ believes WY is using evil cultivation when he has forsaken the use of his sword. LZ doesn't know that without his golden core, WY is too weak to wield his sword properly. WY, of course, doesn't absorb others' spiritual consciousness so he doesn't believe it's "evil cultivation." Instead, he uses music and talismans as weapons. Instead of the familiar Lan Zhan and Wei Ying, they call each other Wei Wu Xian and Lan Wang Ji in frustrated tones. They remain at odds even after the Sunshot Campaign with LZ believing that WY needs cleansing because of his method of cultivation.
  12. Ep. 25, LZ and WY run into each other at the Jin Clan hunt. Feeling the distance between them, they talk about being unsure what they mean to each other. When LZ asked, "What am I to you?" WY answered, "I used to see you as my soulmate" to which LZ replies, "I still am."
  13. Ep. 25, when the rest of the hunters are enraged that the Jiang Clan got a third of the animals due to Wei Ying's "evil cultivation," LZ wants to hide him in Cloud Recess. LZ is so protective of him, but Lan Xi Chen knowingly tells LZ that WY will likely not comply. Additional ways they protect each other:
    • WY drinks LZ's alcoholic drink at the feast in Ep. 26, knowing that it only takes one drink for LZ to become drunk.
    • LZ allows WY and the Wen Clan remnants to go free, and LZ is severely punished at Cloud Recess. It won't be the last time LZ is punished for his association with WY.
    • LZ protects WY when everyone was trying to kill him for his Stygian Tiger Seal.
    • After Ah-Li's death, WY jumps off the cliff, and LZ is the only one who tries to protect and save him but was unsuccessful. LZ spent everyday, after his release from his own 3-year imprisonment, searching for WY until that fateful day when he heard WangXian being played. And throughout Wei Ying's absence, LZ wore white, indicating he was grieving.
    • Constant protection from Jin Ling's dog, Fairy. Most people would just make fun of this grown man that's afraid of dogs, but LZ never does that. He respects WY's only fear and asks him about it.
    • Ep. 42, LZ tells WY, "The sensation of walking down the single-plank bridge until the dark end...really isn't so bad." WY finally understands, without a doubt, that LZ is again on his side, even when all the Clans are against them.
  14. Ep. 28, when Ah-Yuan first meets LZ, WY jokes he gave birth to Ah-Yuan. Later, LZ becomes Ah-Yuan's adoptive father.
  15. Ep. 36, drunk LZ gives WY two chickens (Chinese betrothal gift).
  16. Ep. 43, 16 years later, LZ brings out the two jugs of Emperor's Smile wine he bought (in Ep. 5) for WY.
  17. Ep. 46, WY and LZ are bowing at the Jiang Ancestral Hall to visit WY's family.

Throughout the series, The Untamed uses queer-coding at its best, bypassing Chinese censorship. While we don't see depictions of an actual queer relationship, there were plenty of examples of the MLs' growing closeness in their physical touching, in the way they hold each other back to prevent fighting, how often they carry each other, the way they take care of each other when hurt, those flirty eyes from WY and those longing gazes from LZ.

You gave me so many flashbacks to those scenes that it brought a smile to my face. Thank you for you noticing such things in the show. With that said, time to re-watch it and put myself through emotional trauma again.

Oh, I like all the details...and I just realized that I didnt notice many things.

 Queer:
put myself through emotional trauma again.

But it's the best kind, right!? I absolutely love Lan Zhan and Wei Ying.

Hence, a re-watch is sometimes needed to appreciate this show. I love that you chose a photo from ep 43.
