The whole drama is about the right and the wrongs, good and evil and the line between them. There are so much scenes and lines (especially the original novel) that reflects the real world and is full of life lessons that makes you think about how the world works and how you view it, but which one left the biggest impression on you.

For example, the original novel literally quoted one of Wei Wuxian's last words to Lan Wangji before he went nuts on the cover of the book.

"Let the self judge the right and the wrongs, let others decide to praise or to blame and let the losses and gains remain uncommented on."

 angelVSdevil:

Yes, I love these words. I also love the Jiang Sect's teaching, "明知不可为而为之". Though these characters and overall meaning can be translated into English --do it even if it was impossible-- somehow, they don't sound as good and beautiful as in Chinese.

There are many lessons to be learned from this story. Even though the settings are historical, these lessons still apply for the present days.

管他熙熙攘攘阳关道,我偏要一条独木桥走到黑。  (I'll do whatever I want to do, despite it is a harder way).

There are so many that slip my mind. Some memorable quotes/scenes:

Jiang Cheng, about public opinion: “Wei WuXian! Don’t you understand? When you’re standing on their side, you’re the bizarre genius, the miraculous hero, the force of the rebellion, the flower that blooms alone. But the second your voice differs from theirs, you’ve lost your mind, you’ve ignored morality, you’ve walked the crooked path. You think you can be immune to all those condemnations as you stay outside of the world and do whatever you want? No such precedent has happened before!”

When Wei WuXian tries to teach Jin Ling about two very important words, "Thank You" and "I'm sorry".

Near the end, Jiang Cheng's pain, and his interactions with Wei Ying, "Didn't you say you can control it?" "You promised, GusuLan has the two Jades, JunmengJiang will have their two Prides!"... Well, all their dialogue in the final episodes, and Wei Ying's genuine regrets, at last admitting he was at fault..

WangXian finally realising they are in the same page regarding right & wrong, being pure & persistent on your beliefs, despite what the outside voices may say!

Lan Zhan (by extend) confirming that he'll always stand by Wei Ying's side, "That feeling, crossing the single-log bridge in the dark, is not so bad after all!"

Sorry for any inconsistencies, I don't remember the scenes 100% (need another rewatch, lol)

Yes! I love it too! The translation I've seen the most is challenging the impossible or Knowing it's impossible but doing it anyway.

I loved the quotes from WY and LZ when they telepathically spoke with eachother at gusu lan sect. That entire dialogue was one of the most beautiful and romantic scene in the drama. I need to look it up what the exact lines were, but WY realizing its enough to have one true friend in life and having no regrets as long as one has a clear conscience. LZ said the same.

I'd say this but also WWX's rebuttal on the roof to the four clans.  He was saying the very same words as I was saying them.  Both of us crying and disgusted laughin'.   They were too blind to see wisdom staring them in the face.

Episode 48, first 10 minutes of Jiang Cheng monologue. This for me is the most emotional moment of the series.

‘Because the golden core running your spiritual power inside your body is his’

Not really this  particular line but the whole sequence of events related to WWX’s golden core that led to a his moment. It’s been my suspicion that LWJ has been attracted to WWX since quite early on. According to the novel (incense burner chapter), LWJ was already thinking about ‘being with’ WWX since the library scenes when WWX was being punished by copying the Lan House rules so the initial attraction had to be earlier than that.

In my opinion,  what attracted LWJ to WWX was his fighting skills. LWJ is an incredible fighter in the drama and the novels and even took on 30+ of the best fighters at Lan sect and he’s never really met his match. But WWX was really spectacular in the beginning. When they first fought, LWJ was fully engaged with his sword on the roof tops when WWX snuck in liquor but WWX was able to defend himself quite well without actually having to draw his sword.  I also feel like this is why LWJ makes such a big deal with WWX regarding giving up his sword practice/skills.

And that scene at the lotus pier in ep 46 is what breaks LWJ’s heart because he knows what WWX has given up for JC and his anger likely stems from that realization of what WWX did and how ungrateful JC is being.

In my head, it goes something like this.  LWJ first notices WWX because of his intellect (he never saw WWX at first, but turned around after overhearing WWX saying how he doesn't think the disciple that was being carried in was dead).  After he sees WWX, he is attracted by his looks (the lingering gazes).  WWX then earns his respect for being just as good a fighter as LWJ (looking damn pretty while fighting was just a bonus haha).  And the final deal maker for LWJ was when he heard what WWX wished for during the lantern scene... they share the same values.  To LWJ, WWX was the perfect package:  brains, beauty, brawn, and heart.  No wonder he fell like a rock for WWX =)

Aaaahh Luyi... such a perfect analysis!! And makes me totally believe you. Best version so far in the discussion when and how did LZ fell in love with WY.

How about WY? Please tell me your thoughts! According to the novel WY started to have feelings for LZ only after he resurrected (which I stubbornly deny, yup). I think he started to admire him on the roof. That scene is utterly beautiful. so gracious...

Emma, I feel like WWX like LWJ before his resurrection when he first asked his sister about what it meant to ‘like’ someone. Also he was aware his feelings for LWJ were different when he called him his ‘soulmate’.

Thanks for appreciating my midnight ramblings haha!

WY is a tougher nut to crack because his story is so complicated, and I think his feelings developed more gradually, but WWX definitely fell in love with LWJ before he died in the drama version.  I do think the was attracted to LWJ's beauty at their first meeting, and he appreciated LWJ's fighting skills on the rooftop (agree with you, such a beautiful and romantic scene!).  Initially he was frustrated by LWJ's inflexibility but when he found out that LWJ went back to let his ShiJie and their group in, his attitude toward LWJ totally changed and he realized that LWJ was a softie at heart.  After that he was totally crushing on LWJ and always trying to get his attention.  LWJ was a challenge to WWX because of how fundamentally different they are in personalities, and he wanted to be the one (and the only one!) who can get a reaction from the otherwise stoic LWJ.

In addition to all the teasing and physical attraction, they also have these surprisingly deep heart to heart conversations, like when LWJ was drunk and they tallked about both losing their parents, and in the cave about WWX's experience growing up and LWJ's worries about his brother and uncle.  I think WWX can see how LWJ really cares about him (trying to protect him from the whipping, putting medicine on this chest wound, etc), and nobody truly cared about him except for the Jiang family.  And we know how much WWX deeply values and reciprocates those who love him.

I'm rambling again, but basically I think it's the combination of physical attraction, shared experiences and values, and mutual caring that laid the foundation for WWX's love for LWJ.   He may or may not have realized it yet himself early on, but we can all see it through his words/actions and the way he looks at and treats LWJ.   And while WWX may have taken more time to fall in love, but once he falls, he loves no less strongly than LWJ.

If you haven't seen the WWX - On Loving LWJ post yet, I thought it was a really good read.

What a beautiful article. Thank you for letting us know of its existence. Even reading such article can make me cry because it is reminding me of the amazing characters and their wonderful relationship. Now, I need to go back to watch some of those clips again.
