LWJ may have fallen in love at first sight with WWX

That's my interpretation too - Lan Zhan falls in love with Wei Ying at first sight - in my first viewing. Just that he (Lan Zhan) doesn't know what it is. Despite refusing to let the Jiang clan into Cloud Recess, he still lets them in later, I think mostly because of Wei Ying. When he finds Wei Ying not in the group anymore (Wei Ying has gone to retrieve the invitation card), he waits for him to return. If Lan Zhan has no feelings for Wei Ying at that time, why would he stand there to wait for him? Wei Ying at that time is just another pupil of the many. Since then, Lan Zhan only singles out Wei Ying to punish. Though Wei Ying deserves it because he's the most mischievous of all, he's not the only one; many others also break rules, such as Nie HuaiShang (he reads pornography, drinks and gets drunk, fools around with the other boys, cheats in tests). Whenever Wei Ying's name is mentioned, Lan Zhan tenses up. There has to be something.

As for Wei Ying, I also feel that he is in love with Lan Zhan at the very beginning, but he brushes it off because he thinks it's impossible Lan Zhan would have permitted/accepted it. He prefers to spend time with Lan Zhan but whenever Jiang Chen comes with his sour face, Wei Ying would quickly go to placate Jiang Chen, throwing glances at Lan Zhan as if telling him, "Let me get rid of this dude first because he has a nasty mouth." Time and time again, he would try to ask Lan Zhan something (about his emotion), then quickly diverts it. For example, when they are talking about Mian Mian, Wei Ying is looking deep into Lan Zhan's eyes, searching his thoughts, but to disguise himself, he utters the name Mian Mian instead. We can see the instant helplessness on Lan Zhan's face, as if he is hoping Wei Ying would hint his (Wei Ying's) love for him first. After all, it would have been outrageous if it's only one-sided, so both think.

BTW, we should have posted all these WangXian discussions in the other thread :)

I'm loving all this discussions on WangXian!  Agree that there should be a dedicated thread for it.  Will head over there as to not make things confusing.

I can't believe I only read the article today -- It was awesome! Though it's not as if I needed more of this drug!

I know this is not some wise quote though I do love those and they include the ones that've been mentioned here before this. But one of my favourite dialogues is..

"Lan Zhan... "

"Mn. I am here. "

It comes in the novel frequently and to me, it just sums up everything that I read in that article just now.

Does anyone know is there a animation vision for this drama?

If there then is the story is based on novel vision or this drama vision?

There is an animation of Mo Dao Zu Shi, it's slightly different from the drama, still wonderful on its own! It's adapted from the novel, but it doesn't cover all of the story of the novel yet, it's still on the 2nd season, it's gonna take at least another season to do so.

That said, this is not the right forum post to ask about this (off topic), we have another forum thread for links & info on all the adaptations, here: https://mydramalist.com/discussions/the-untamed/44753-url-link-for-all-mdzs-related

In my head, it goes something like this.  LWJ first notices WWX because of his intellect (he never saw WWX at first, but turned around after overhearing WWX saying how he doesn't think the disciple that was being carried in was dead).  After he sees WWX, he is attracted by his looks (the lingering gazes).  WWX then earns his respect for being just as good a fighter as LWJ (looking damn pretty while fighting was just a bonus haha).  And the final deal maker for LWJ was when he heard what WWX wished for during the lantern scene... they share the same values.  To LWJ, WWX was the perfect package:  brains, beauty, brawn, and heart.  No wonder he fell like a rock for WWX =)

Hello!  New here so I'm not sure where to post this question of mine that's been bothering me forever.  Since you mentioned LWJ was attracted by WWX looks, how is it that he can still love him when he came back looking like MX?  I was actually confused while watching it because at first, I thought his body came back with MX's soul but that couldn't be because he is still WWX so he came back with MX's body even though in the show it was still Xiao Zhan.  The fact that he was wearing a mask didn't help clarify things for me since why would he need to wear a mask if his body was MX's?  The novel mentioned that MX is shorter in height also.

Anyway, that's the thing that's been bothering me.  Why couldn't they have just used 2 different actors so it's not confusing?  I do love it though.  After watching it, I looked for other shows that XZ and WYB starred in and also started listening to some XNINE songs.  :)

Sorry for my ramblings.  I just didn't know who to ask or share these thoughts with.

Hi there! There's actually been some debate on that. Just so you know, China has censorship on resurrection/reincarnations/rising of the dead themes, so that's why they left things vague intentionally. Obviously, it would be hard using different actors, too.

My own theory is that, in the drama (not in the novel) Mo Xianyu used a kind of magic ritual that sacrificed both his body and soul, to bring back WWX's soul in a WWX's newly recreated body somehow. OR that WWX's soul entering Mo Xianyu's body made Mo Xianyu's body/face take the form of WWX's one.

I was also confused with this theory either way thanks for the explanation. @Estelll

You're welcome! :)

@EsteIII

I didn't know about the censorship.  Thanks for explaining!

Although if MX body/face took on WWX's then everyone wouldn't need to guess that it was him.  I guess I'll just let it be.  It was a good show and a good book.  A show never gripped me so much that I started watching their youtube videos. Now, I'm listening to TUBs songs.
