201. Triage
Thai Drama - 2022, 13 episodes
This is going to be an unpopular opinion. I'm not sure how to rate this. The beginning was really good and it had a great concept, but the execution of the time loop part of the story missed the mark for me. To be fair, it's hard to follow Reset, which aired earlier this year. Not only did the story feel repetitive at times, the time loop part gets a bit confusing cuz each loop shows different things. However, some of the supporting characters act like they remember stuff from previous loop (when the main character didn't try to jog their memory). Also the last few episodes got a bit draggy and lowkey amnesia annoying. I don't want to just say "It's good for a BL." However, if you forget about the fact that this is a BL and rate it for the story, I'd say it's about a 6.5 cuz of the flaws. Also, the villain was lame. It tried something new though, so for a BL it's a 7/10 for me.

202. Dear.M
Korean Drama - 2022, 12 episodes
First thing you need to know is that it's slow paced. There are parts of this drama I really enjoyed, such as scenes with FL + her best friend, the ballads, and trying to figure out who M was. ?️♀️ They even kind of won me over with the love triangle. My ship made it. :) I figured out who ML was early on. FL was honestly so polite and sweet that it was lowkey annoying, but something about her is adorable and made me want to protect her. My favorite couple was with clean freak guy and his girlfriend. ♥
- Magnet couple + boyfriend snatcher ruined this drama for me. They were so annoying. I started having to skip through their scenes. They got so much airtime on top of that. Ugh.
- I didn't like that one shady guy who kept telling white lies.First Love ✔︎

203. KinnPorsche
Thai Drama - 2022, 14 episodes
It's official, Tankhun is my favorite character. Ok, how do I put this...I feel like the plot came out of a Yaoi manga (i'm using very specific words here lol). A lot of the hype was around the "hot" scenes, but other than that stuff, I actually found the first half very entertaining. There were a lot of good fight scenes and the comedy was enjoyable. The second half gets a bit more serious and has some effed up stuff. I feel like they got lazy with the action too cuz there just more scenes of shootouts and less hand to hand combat. The last episode had some decent action though. Also, the second half had less scenes of Tankhun (aka the comic relief) and you could feel his lack of presence. I liked how the twists were slowly revealed. The one in the last ep was a little too crazy, but I'll let it pass. Overall, it's a solid drama and you'll probably like it even more if you're in it for the "skinship". ;)

Mr. and Mrs. Smith c-historical version. Too bad it is dubbed. The subtitles on youtube were kind of crappy. ;(The budget was a bit low, but the story is enjoyable. It's a pretty short watch (aprox. 3 hours total).

206. Suddenly Seventeen
Chinese Drama - 2016, 26 episodes
Although it has the same title as the cmovie, it's more of a spinoff than it is a sequel or remake. It's nothing amazing, but it's short, cute, and sweet. Each episode is about 20 min long if you exclude the intro and ending credits. The last 3rd of this drama does get a bit draggy, but it's a nice and light watch overall. It was a nice break from all the blood and violence from my Marvel binge. ?

207. A Dream of Splendor
Chinese Drama - 2022, 40 episodes
Okay so I loved the main cast for this drama. Both leads do an excellent job and the chemistry is fantastic. I love how both leads respect each other. ML is a pretty likable character. The drama is dubbed, but it uses the real actors voices (for main cast at least). This year I discovered that I REALLY like Chen Xiao's voice. ? I also really liked the sismance. The drama did feel kind of long (though not too draggy) and occasionally has too many side stories that no one cares about. However, I really do love some of the supporting characters. Now that I think about it, the main political plot was kind of lame. The romance was enjoyable though.

208. Extraordinary Attorney Woo
Korean Drama - 2022, 16 episodes
It was by no means perfect, but this was a feel good drama and happy pill for me. I mainly loved this for the wholesome work environment. It was entirely unrealistic, but I needed a break from all the negativity in dramas. That's not to say this was void of negativity. You have Kwon Min Woo who serves as the closest thing to an antagonist. And of course you have the evildoers in all of those cases too. I'm a sucker for some character growth, so I really loved seeing Woo Young Woo grow as a person and lawyer.
Do NOT watch this show if you're expecting an accurate representation of someone on the spectrum. I feel like some things were exaggerated or misrepresented. However, the writers do get some things right. This drama brought up a lot of discussion on the subject matter, especially in countries where people don't have much knowledge about ASD. Some viewers made the extra effort to do some research and this is a big plus, but don't watch this expecting it to be accurate. The writers wanted a story to be different and they got one.
Do NOT watch this solely for the cases. I don't know how to describe them. They were a bit ridiculous, but outcomes/twists were entertaining? They seemed impossible to win, but somehow the team got lucky. Watching this law drama as a foreigner/outsider was a bit weird because I would think of a law in my country and wonder, "They don't already have a law about this?" and "How is this even legal?" But again, this is not my country so I cannot judge or make conclusions based on South Korea's laws. The cases from the first half were more interesting than the second. Then the show starts to go downhill again a bit. You can tell the writers got a bit lazy. Also, news of a 2nd season was announced so maybe they're holding out on stuff. Overall I enjoyed this as a workplace drama, where a newbie joins the workforce and makes a considerable amount growth by the end. -
209. Monkey Twins
Thai Drama - 2018, 13 episodes
This drama had some really fun fight scenes and dance performances. Most of the action is fun to watch. The only action I wasn't a fan of was the gun related shootouts. For some reason, Thai dramas have been very weak at filming these scenes. I also loved the monkey and of course the lead actor. ;) As for the cons, it's mainly the plot. The plot is boring and dumb as hell. It also felt like it was a movie stretched out into a drama. The FL is one of those naïve and weak village girl types which was irritating. Like bro, you just fell in love with her cuz she bandaged you up once? ?♀️ The plot was also a bit unpredictable. How do I put this...the villain is very trigger happy. I wasn't a fan of the antagonists (there were multiple), but there was one in particular that did not deserve any respect at all as a villain. There were a lot of Hanuman references which I thought interesting cuz lakorns usually blast Buddhism in your face. They also had a Christian funeral which is rare for lakorns.
Anyways, I would only recommend watching it if you're a fan of martial arts action. And in that case, maybe just skip all the drama and just watch the fight scenes. xDMartial Arts ✔︎

210. Alchemy of Souls
Korean Drama - 2022, 20 episodes
7ish for the plot and +0.5 for the cgi, especially in the first episode. This was a solid attempt at a xuanhuan. It started to feel really draggy toward the end and i think it's cuz Hong sisters excel at semi episodic plots, and this drama was not semi episodic. I could see some remixed formulaic elements from their past dramas like You're Beautiful.
I really don't see why people are complaining. The ending? Have you ever seen a xuanhuan before? They're known for doing you dirty with a cliffhanger and leaving you hanging for the next three YEARS until part 2 comes out. This ending is not that bad and part 2 comes out in the next few months. Be grateful.Fantasy + Historical ✔︎

211. Love Like the Galaxy: Part 1
Chinese Drama - 2022, 27 episodes
Not a bad first "half". I'm enjoying the series so far, especially for the comedy....most of which is very subtle. I love the father + daughter duo. The emperor is actually very likable. Also, puppy dog is one of my favorite characters even though I couldn't ship him with FL. They make great friends and I can see how she thought they would've been a good match. Most people were raving about the leads and I love them too. What people didn’t mention is that it's also a very political drama. It's also slow paced and people talk very slowly. None of these are cons, just personal dislikes. I was not mentally prepared for the slow pace and I suspect the next part will have more political drama (whether in the harem or in court).

-
212. Love Like the Galaxy: Part 2
Chinese Drama - 2022, 29 episodes
This part should be called Shao Shang and the royal brats. It involves the brats of the royal family being taken down one after another. It is much more slow paced and much more political. The tone is more serious and there is less comedy. It also has a lot of bullying (that beats out some school dramas in terms of excessive bullying). Who wants to see that for fun?? All this goes on for 20 episodes until you reach the climax of this story. This scene was amazing and the story gets much more interesting after that. It's like the last 10 episodes were directed by someone else. Beautifully filmed and beautifully acted.
So overall, I guess my rating would be 6.5 or 7 for both parts combined. I hated the first 2/3d of part 2, but loved the rest. I wish they had made the story shorter and not split it into two parts.Least Watched Tag ✔︎

213. Love Between Fairy and Devil
Chinese Drama - 2022, 36 episodes
There was a lot of hype around this. It's a xianxia drama so I enjoyed it and it was enough to keep me interested, but I didn't get REALLY into it until ep25. I mainly held on for ML's character. The last 10 episodes were awesome. This couple (when they finally get together) is like xianxia couple goals. I really loved their devotion to each other. I don't know how to rate this other than it's somewhere up there with Love and Destiny and Ancient Love Poetry.
Pros: Straightforward story with not that many fillers. Story is original with some twists to the typical current day xianxia formulaic plot. Love the Antihero ML. Dylan is awesome. ML's outfits are awesome.
Cons: FL is "weak" for most of the story and she has this annoying baby voice. To be fair, lead actress is playing like 3 different versions of her character, but unfortunately we have to listen to baby voice for most of drama. You eventually get used to it, but it's still a big turnoff. The CGI can be a bit weak at times.CGI ✔︎

214. Double
Japanese Drama - 2022, 10 episodes
I trusted my friends and went into this drama blind. I should probably warn you that it's slow paced and psychological (the first not being my cup of tea). You probably shouldn't watch this when you're tired either. This was actually an interesting drama about what starts off as a codependent relationship. I didn't get into it until episode 8. There were also some incredible acting performances that just blew me away. Wow.

215. School Tales the Series
Thai Drama - 2022, 8 episodes
An anthology of horror stories. It was like a mixed bag of jellybeans where there were mostly bad ones than good. I liked the Book of Corpses episode. Also, Headless Teacher was horror comedy which was a nice change of tone from the rest of the series. All episodes were gory and approx. 90% were about bullying.

216. Narco-Saints
Korean Drama - 2022, 6 episodes
Halleluiah! It's a limited series! This was a very well made production. It had a movie like vibe and quality to it. The cast had many big hitters with actors who are mostly known for doing movies. It had good writing too. It's very hard to pinpoint flaws if you look for it. I experienced a similar thrill from when I watched Escape From Mogadishu, except this was a bit more serious. The plot slowed down a teeny bit around the middle for me, but other than that story and pacing are solid.
Remember this has more of a kmovie vibe than a kdrama vibe. I'd recommend it to those who like k-action films.Drug/Gambling ✔︎

Eh, it's basically a zombie film plot with bewitched people instead of zombies. This could've easily been a movie. Idk why stretch it out to a 6 episode series. That being said, I guess it's decent for the zombie genre (though it's technically not a zombie drama).

7.5 for the plot and + 0.5 for the dog. This was a fun drama. The love triangles were a hot mess (in a good way). I enjoyed it and it's short so I didn't really feel the drag toward the end. 221. Maid's Revenge
Chinese Drama - 2022, 30 episodes
Lmao, this is the definition of guilty pleasure. The beginning was amusingly entertaining. Probably a fun one to watch with your friends. xD This is basically one of your cheap makjangs with domineering ML. ML is a bit delusional and a manhandler, which is all fine cuz it comes with the territory. After the first 1/3 the storyline starts to get more crazy and serious. There's a lot less abs shown. Not sure what the antagonist's problem was. Dude was crazy. I wasn't a fan of the ending.
Triggers: Sexual assault (unclear if there's offscreen rape), but ML is not the assailant. The attempted rape caught me off guard tbh. -
222. Adamas
Korean Drama - 2022, 16 episodes
I struggled to finish this drama from beginning to end, especially the end. What kind of crap ending was that? It was boring and predictable. I kept falling asleep and having to go back and rewatch. The way they filmed the twin thing was cool though. Other than that I found it to be a mediocre snoozefest. Also, there was this female psycho villain that I guess was supposed to be crazy and cool, but I was not impressed. To be fair, I just finished bingeing 5 seasons of Gotham and that villain seemed so subpar in comparison to Gotham psycho female villains.

223. Today's Webtoon
Korean Drama - 2022, 16 episodes
I'm probably being slightly generous with my rating and that's because the original jdrama is near and dear to my heart. I have two major gripes about this adaptation. First, they stretched out the plot so that it could fit into the 16 ep format. The second is that they added in the typical korean toxic work environment. Sure, the jdrama had some annoying coworkers too, but FL's positivity and optimism rubs off on them. Long story short, I was expecting a positive experience, but they added too much negativity and it ruined the experience for me. It's still an okay remake and FL is still adorably positive.

224. I Want to Live to the Finale
Chinese Drama - 2021, 26 episodes
Ok so I have a very low standard for these made for Douyin webdramas with super short episodes. I actually think its decent compared to the rest of this "genre" that I've seen. This is one of those guilty pleasure dramas (sorry, no abs). The ending gets a bit choppy when it comes to the edits. Also for the first time in my life, I had to slow down the playback speed to 0.5 just to catch the novel plot in the beginning. It felt like I was watching the cliffnotes version of some drama.
-
225. Thai Cave Rescue
Thai Drama - 2022, 6 episodes
This show is more about hope than it is about doom and gloom. It's very inspirational. I loved watching the world come together to help these boys, even if it was only in prayer. This drama was surprisingly pretty educational. My favorite part was the scientific and military planning and troubleshooting that went into saving these boys. Also, the sound mixing is actually pretty great because the music really captures the mood and intensity of the scenes. I was feeling all sorts of emotional watching this, especially the beginning. You know this is based off a true story that happened a few years ago. You might even remember details of the event. Then there's the fact that Beam, who played the coach, is no longer with us. You can't help but get watery eyed. But like I said, this drama is about hope. I hope that gives you a reason to watch.

226. The Blooms at Ruyi Pavilion
Chinese Drama - 2020, 40 episodes
It was not bad and hit the spot for a historical romance fix. Ultimately, this felt too long for me. Things started to get repetitive and draggy. Also, some scenes were really dumb that had me questioning if what I saw was even correct. xD These few minor absurd scenes weren't enough to make me drop, but I don't blame you for wanting to drop for the draggyness. It was not quite worth the watch for me.

Personally not my cup of tea, but the fact that it was banned/censored peaked my interest. People who watched this movie seem to hold two different opinions. 231. The Trapped 13: How We Survived the Thai Cave
Thai Movie - 2022
There are two documentaries and one drama that came out this year regarding the rescue that took place. This documentary is more from the survivor's perspective. The National Geographic version (The Rescue), not surprisingly, is more from the cave divers' perspective and the science behind it all. The drama (Thai Cave Rescue), does a good job of covering the story from multiple angles and being balanced. Out of the two documentaries, I liked National Geographic version better cuz it covers the science. However, I think this version is a good follow up to watching the drama.

Completed on 2nd attempt. On first attempt, I dropped at ep. 1. Not sure why it was added back into my list. Anyways, I didn't think much of it as a noonamance. The romance part was decent, but the business side was such a bore. I skipped through a lot of the plot. The highlight for me was the goofy ML. ML's stylist should be fired.

I enjoyed this goofy drama. A lot of people are saying they liked season 1 better. Tbh, I don't remember much so I can't compare, but I did give s1 an 8 rating. 243. May It Please the Court
Korean Drama - 2022, 12 episodes
I wont rave about this drama like it's the best thing ever, but after a series of mediocre and disappointing dramas this year, this drama was a nice surprise. I'm not saying it's a hidden gem, but it's underrated in terms of popularity to say the least. It has a great OST and fantastic acting. The mystery and suspense really pulled me in. You can probably easily figure out the "who", but not the "why". It will keep you guessing until the end and throw a few curveballs. The drama is a bit slow paced at times and I felt like it got a bit draggy toward the middle. That's because the format changes from an almost episodic law procedural to one that focuses solely on the main story. Once they start focusing on the overall story arch and less on the filler cases, things got a bit better imo.

However, there is a surprisingly good amount of sports in it and the competition is actually interesting to watch. I also loved the "no medal" gang. It's got a good amount of goofy comedy in it too. What I didn't like is that there's an unreasonably unrealistic amount of corruption in this drama. I'm not saying that it doesn't exist, but it was too much for me. The first half was so addicting and I loved it so much. The mystery and suspense had me hooked. All I can say is don't watch this for the romance cuz ML approaches FL with hidden motives. However, that confidence and the way he flirts with her is low key attractive (even though he can be creepy at times). I also enjoyed the OST and background music. Lot's of classical music, which I found refreshing. I would've rated this higher had it not been for the 2nd half. A lot of dumb decisions made by the "good guys" such as talking about or handing over evidence to the bad guys. Why were they revealing their hidden cards to the enemy? Hand it over the the police immediately. That was infuriating. Also, things got a bit draggy toward the end, but it's not bad if you speed watch this series.

Chinese Drama - 2022, 24 episodes
This is for seasons 1&2. I felt like I lost brain cells watching this. Poor script and bad acting. Even if some actors were decent, their performance was effected by the dubbing. I can't quite tell what the issue was. It felt like it was targeted toward middle schoolers, but had an adult cast (and FL often acts a bit immature). Something felt off about it. It does get a bit interesting in "season 2" when ML starts pursuing FL. However, it's not worth the watch.

255. Love in Contract
Korean Drama - 2022, 16 episodes
Ignore my biased rating because this drama was exactly my brand of crack. You've got contract marriage and Park Min Young in a romcom. Was Go Kyung Pyo's voice always this sexy?? I loved both male leads. One had sad puppy dog eyes that were hard to resist. The other was a cat dad. It was hard to pick between the two, but I chose a side. Needless to say, if you don't like love triangles, this might not be the drama for you. Also if the ML you root for doesn't get the girl you might get a bit upset (I feel like a lot of people ranting in the reviews had SLS). This was just a fun addicting binge watch. Don't expect anything amazing plotwise. It's got some standard makjang cliche moments. Also, some subplots could've been tied together and ended a bit better. However, it hit the spot for me. The last two episodes felt a bit draggy, but I absolutely loved how they ended it. Oh, and shout out to the roommate and Jamie 1.

256. The Law Cafe
Korean Drama - 2022, 16 episodes
I went in with low expectations just because there are a bunch of law dramas out this year, but this ended up being a light and enjoyable watch. I think the case with most law dramas is that they tend to be on the dark and serious side. While this drama did have some serious cases, the tone was light overall. Plus, I enjoyed it for the cast too. I love the lead actress. LSG did a solid acting job (this character was very suited for him). Also, you gotta love the gang that works at the cafe. Think along the lines of heist drama or one of those feel good dramas where a group of people help clients get revenge. This drama follows a similar path and is more on the fun side. Of course it's got those annoying chaebols too. The drama isn't complete without them. *eyeroll*

Korean Drama - 2022, 12 episodes
This had a decent start and becomes laugh out loud hilarious after 3 episodes. The Power heir storyline was my favorite. I was also happy to see Baek Hyun Jin in a non asshole role. This drama is just a goofy slapstick comedy. It's filled with parodies so the more familiar you are with Korean entertainment, the more rewarding it is cuz you'll get the references. It's lowkey episodic so I do not recommend binge watching this one.

259. A Romance of the Little Forest
Chinese Drama - 2022, 35 episodes
I don't know if I can say this is a bad drama, but it was most definitely not worth the watch. I love Zhang Vin, but it was not worth having to listen to 35 hours of baby voice for him. Also, the male lead is a tsundere character who scowls for like 22 episodes. The secondary couple was such a bore. Also I'm officially convinced this actress cannot act (I gave her the benefit of the doubt last time in Fairy and Devil). The way she recites her lines are like if she's reading off a script and it just sounds unnatural. On top of that, I think her character is supposed to be bad at acting so it was double bad acting.

260. D-Day
Korean Drama - 2015, 20 episodes
What a long week. -__-;; This had a very intense and gripping start. It was pretty thrilling. Some of these doctors and patients couldn't get a break. The second half got pretty repetitive and boring. For example, a single person would get injured multiple times throughout this drama requiring them to be saved multiple times. I had lost my attention in the second half and could've cared less about the dying people. Also I hated the ending for the most part.
I wont get into the medical accuracy of this drama, but I can talk about the healthcare accuracy. Some of the stuff was unrealistic, but some stuff they got right. So at some point in this drama a character complained, "you brag about all the fancy robotic procedures at this hospital, but you can't even deliver a baby!?" Yes, this is accurate. Certain hospitals are only licensed to do certain procedures. And yes, maternity has the highest risk of malpractice. A lot of hospitals don't offer this service because they think it isn't worth it. But really it comes down to the license...which the government could or could not offer to the hospital (sometimes the govt. fears monopoly). Even if doctors did a rotation of OB/GYN during residency, if the hospital isn't licensed for it, you aren't allowed to do it. This goes the same for other services like cardiac procedures.
What I found unrealistic was the government response in this drama. Usually if some catastrophe happens, the government declares a state of emergency and the military also steps in. There was none of that. Also governments usually have a disaster preparedness plan in affect in case something major happens. In this drama people were left to fend for themselves. It was super unrealistic.Evil/Lying Doctors ✔︎

Korean Drama - 2022, 8 episodes
Movie disguised as a drama, i.e. It's not targeted toward the usual kdrama fans. Story is solid, but it's not my cup of tea. I felt like some of the nudity and sex was unnecessary. Also, don't watch this just for KYK. This was a such a contrast from the last drama I saw him in. xD I have mixed feelings about the ending. There were many things left unanswered. Music was good though.

266. Big Mouth
Korean Drama - 2022, 16 episodes
Ah, I have mixed feelings. At first it started off mediocre for me. ML is kinda dumb/naive and I almost dropped the drama because of it. But then after 3 episodes, the story gets more intense and mysterious. It just got so addicting the further I got into it. I was thinking of giving it an 8 at one point because this drama kept throwing me off guard and kept me guessing. However, you reach the climax of the story about 14 episodes in and the drama kinda goes downhill from there. After all that intensity, we have to sit through an election campaign (wtf??). It's not nearly as exciting as the rest of the drama. The ending didn't quite go as expected or wanted. It was a bit disappointing and there were a couple of loose ends, but they still gave me a satisfactory badass ending.
Just a couple of comments:
+ The current rating is most def inflated cuz LJS is in this. He is known for playing mainly charming characters. He does this very well. But props to him for switching things up a bit and showing a bit of his ugly side in this drama.
+ I'll be honest, I was never a fan of Yoona, but I do think she has been growing as an actress. I think I breathed a sigh of relief to see that she was playing such a smart and competent female lead.
+ Those crocodile tears. ?
- There were some highly unrealistic things going on in this drama, some of which you can easily ignore if you don't work in healthcare or prison system.Thriller ✔︎

267. One Dollar Lawyer
Korean Drama - 2022, 12 episodes
I mainly enjoyed this drama for the cast in their particular roles, though I might have not loved their characters per say. The cast did a very great job. It was a funny/goofy show. I also loved the animated bit at the beginning and the OST. However, I could've cared less about the actual cases themselves. I appreciate that they went into ML's backstory, but they inserted it into an odd place in the drama. It's sort of like when someone writes the intro paragraph of an essay, but adds it as the 4th paragraph instead of the 1st. It changes the direction of the story in an odd way.

It's just a fun casual watch. It doesn't take itself seriously so you shouldn't either. I loved the music and sound mixing (especially use of sound effects). I appreciate how Seo In Guk and Kwak Shi Yang switched up their image in this drama. As for the lead actress, I'm just not a fan. Idk what it is about her. She's pretty and all, but I think I'm not into her acting style. Anyways, my only issue is that the last 1/3rd of this drama gets super draggy. There was one plot twist that threw me off but it could be because I had lost interest in the series by that point and wasn't really paying attention.

Umm, you guys...did we even watch the same drama?? I feel like my current rating is kind of generous. Okay, sure it has some enjoyable moments, but it wasn't 8.7 good! All the 10/10 reviews baffle me. Storywise, it is pretty standard. It's got your classic college to working life story arc. The ML is a cocky asshole just cuz he's a genius programmer. There's no reason for him to be a stubborn asshole. He's unlikable except for that pretty face of his. And then he's all up in FL's personal space trying to make her blush and get her to do things his way. Idk what his deal was. His "tragic" backstory didn't justify his behavior. And then the story seems like they set it up so they can get the perfect revenge, but then we dont get to see that Fang asshole guy go down in flames. I mean, okay, they show something but it's like 5 seconds which is not worthy of all that buildup. They manage to slip in a shirtless scene for the thirsty folks toward the end.

Korean Drama - 2022, 12 episodes
It's cliche and can be over the top and extra at the times, but it was a fun watch. You just have to turn your brain off and enjoy the show. The goofy comedy made this worth watching. There definitely was a plot in mind, but the show just kept getting lost in random adventures. I didn't even mind that they deviated from the plot. The last few episodes did get a bit dumb though. ML is like Batman, except instead of kicking butt during his off hours, he's a super sleuth. My favorite character was ML's wingman, played by Eum Moon Suk. He usually plays crazy eccentric characters. This lawyer role seemed a bit more more tame for him, but he did not disappoint with the comedy.

I knew it was gonna be mediocre drama to start, but it's a supernatural drama so I couldn't resist checking it out anyway. As a fan of supernatural dramas, there were many moments I enjoyed. However, there are a lot of dumb and boring ones too considering it can be pretty cliche. FL can be considered naive and dumb, but you have to keep in mind, this is more of a Fish Out of Water story...think along the lines of Repunzel or Disney's Enchanted. The second half of the drama becomes more makjang and it can be pretty juicy. The makjang stuff is all within predictable range, but it was still fun seeing it all go down. I teared up a couple times in the 2nd half too, so props to this drama for managing to pull on my heartstrings.

It was not what I was expecting. I thought this was gonna be a fight to the top school drama, in which case i'd say....jdramas do it better. 278. Don't Mess With Ex-Girlfriend
Chinese Drama - 2022, 20 episodes
Maybe a 7, but I've been watching trashy chinese webdramas all day and this one seems like a hidden gem compared to the rest. It's a contract marriage/fake relationship story with a male chases female lead plot. ML's game is strong, but FL's game (in avoiding his advances) is stronger. ML is a warm CEO. What I love about the FL is that she's perfectly capable of handling things on her own and doesn't need a white knight to save the day.
Cons:
- Somewhat low budget
- ML looks like he's barely 20...which makes it hard to believe he's head of the family. -
279. Love Is Weird

I'm still a sucker for contract relationships and these too were cute together. It's hard to tell when the ML fell in love with FL. Him being in love seemed really random. Also the ending felt rushed. It's a super low budget webdrama so lower your standards by a lot.

280. Leap
Chinese Movie - 2020
I saw that @virgievirgie posted about this movie this week so I decided to take a leap of faith and check it out. As a fan of sports dramas and movies, i really enjoyed it. All that hard work of the players that payed off. The thrill of the game...it was all there. The only thing that felt off was this movie had like 4 or 5 story arcs back to back. It made the movie feel lengthy if you don't fast forward (which i did not FF this time...you'd be proud :P). There were some things I sort of got the gist of, but seemed really random because they couldn't outright say it (censorship). For example, Lan Ping says "Enjoy the game. Let the burdens of the past be with my generation." This was referring to how China exploited these girls in their effort to find good players...to the point that they did not enjoy the game or probably never did. I was really worried that this movie might have some racism in it, but thank god that was not the case. Overall it's an intense sports watch. I thought the multiple story arcs made this more suitable to be a mini series than a movie. Some things felt quite long for a movie. I understand they recreated the last match (cool), but from an artistic storytelling perspective they might have tried to fit in too much in one movie.

282. Hwarang
Korean Drama - 2016, 20 episodes
It took me 10 months, but I finally finished it. :D This was recommended to me by the MDL algorithm.
The main thing I loved about it was the star studded cast. I am obsessed with the two MLs and a fan of a shit ton of other actors in this (FL included). They pretty much tried to take a play out of the Moon Lovers: Scarlet Heart Ryeo playbook and fit in as many oppas as possible. Aside from the oppas there's a lot of great supporting cast too including veteran actors and other actors before they became super famous. I also loved that this was set in kindom of Silla, which is rare for k-historicals.
I had trouble getting into the plot. It didn't really pull me in with its storyline, which is why it took me forever to complete it. There was this deranged power hungry queen, a king who needed to grow up, a potentially incestious marriage arrangement, the hwarang school (which was boring). Things got a lot more interesting in the 2nd half for me. They never went back and addressed some things. It had potential for more. My rating could potentially be a 7, but plotwise I don't think this was worth the watch.
The plot = 6/10

283. Unexpected Falling
Chinese Drama - 2022, 38 episodes
This was a slow paced makjang and I found it to be very intriguing. It's not the best melodrama out there, but it managed to pull me in. I think it's actually pretty good for chinese melodrama standards. Like I said before, FL is horror movie dumb, which can be frustrating. She's also understandably dull for most of the drama considering what happens to her. However, there is significant character growth in the last 1/4th of the drama. ML is also pretty unlikable and shady, but it's intriguing. He's mysterious and has hidden motives. He messes with FL, but he's doing it to wake her up out of her stupor and make her stronger. By the end of the drama, it lowkey backfires on him cuz he almost creates a monster. It's wonderful to see. :) I enjoyed the melodrama experience, but unfortunately it's too slow paced and long for me to say it was worth the watch.
------------------------------------
side note: There is a height difference and normally I would find this cute, but someone mentioned they cant even fit the two in the same frame. This was bad direction in general because there are ways to make it work but they chose to do closeups a lot instead. The direction improved in the 2nd half, but the beginning was kind of sucky if you start paying attention to it.Death of a Spouse ✔︎

I watched this on the big screen today and I think it made a big difference. I also went into this movie without knowing anything about it so I had no expectations and let the work speak for itself. I was a little worried in the first half cuz a certain subplot is close to my taboo list, but then the story unfolds and there are twists that made me change my mind. There's also a lot of "weird" moments. I don't know how else to describe it without giving stuff away. Also, the cinematography is excellent.

6 for the plot, which lost my interest after the first few episodes cuz my favorite character was no longer around. The top review for this drama is pretty spot on and took me out with its "Tre honestly has this weird creepy vampire look that I don't dig..." comment. ? However, there are so many wonderful things about this lakorn too.
+ Trans community love. The friendship is so wholesome.
+ Educational
+ Wonderful performances and costumes.
+ The nangrai (female villain) is absolutely gorgeous. I couldn't help but get enamoured by her every time she was on screen. Her performance was great. Hope this actress gets a main role soon.
+ Cops that did their job even though the slippery villains kept getting away.
- We're dealing with theater/cabaret community. Expect dramatic characters, sabatoging, and catfights to break out a lot.
- The plot lost my interest after a few episodes. After that, some episodes were better than others. Has a lot of cliche lakorn tropes. Very predictable.Transgender Identity ✔︎

286. Designated Survivor: 60 Days
Korean Drama - 2019, 16 episodes
This was a great adaptation that was tailored toward Korean laws and political tensions. On top of that it had a stellar cast and great direction. Sound can make or break a drama and in this case it elevated it. I suspect this is the same sound team that worked on Stranger (but I couldn't find anything online about it). Most importantly, the plot was great. It was a great political thriller from start to finish. Of course there were a few plotholes and facepalm moments, but overall this was well done. The beginning started off a bit slow, but once you get into the flow of things it's awesome. This drama requires a lot of brain energy and paying attention so maybe save it for when you need to excercise your brain. I would also recommend binge watching cuz once you take a break it's hard to get back into it. Luckily, the show provides recaps at the beginning of some episodes if you need a refresher.

Still a way better game developement drama than Lighter & Princess. They used technical terms appropriately and didn't just try to throw as many in as they can randomly. They also did a good job of explaining technical terms to the non tech savvy. The plot is fun and inspirational. I loved all the gaming references, especially in the beginning. FL's ex-boss was such a pig. Kudos on the casting of that role cuz they nailed it. This start up team could be a bit naive at times, but I really wanted to be a part of their nerdy work family. Yet another historical where Jang Hyuk stole the show. I actually really liked his character in this one (much more calm, less loud, and no obnoxious laugh). He played a very tough opponent. This drama was absolutely gorgeous. Loved the cinematography and direction. However, it's very political and slow paced. You need to pay attention and take some time to appreciate the aesthetics and acting. I ended up increasing the speed in the second half. Idk why people talk so slowly in some historicals. Anyways, I love the song they would play at the end of each episode.
