  • The Penthouse: War in Life

    1. The Penthouse: War in Life

    Korean Drama - 2020, 21 episodes

    10

*Best actress of the year. The Penthouse is currently the drama with the highest rating in SK and I loved it from the very beginning when I read the synopsis and got to know who got casted in the drama. Even before I was sure who out of the 3 women she's going to play, I knew that Kim So Yeon is going to blow us all away.
TBH, The Penthouse is only my second drama with Kim So Yeon but I remember that as a child while watching Iris I rooted for her so much. She made me emphasize with her rather then the prettiest of them all FL, and you know I love dearly Kim Tae Hee, so this is hell of an achievement.
All the 3 ladies who are leading The Penthouse are amazing, but Kim So Yeon is playing the villain so meticulously that she truly provokes hatred and goose bumps. I look at her on screen and think she just lost it and then she goes to Running Man and shows her complete opposite cheerful personality. I hope she'll get an award from SBS this year.

*Best villains of the year. Every 2 eps the story changes and leaves us with another cliffhanger. Many like to compare it to Sky Castle, but IMO it's much better. Yes there are intrigues, conflicts and cheating but all of them are nothing against the mysterious murder that happened. and everyone is a suspect, EVERYONE. so if you're in for the mystery and great acting, this is the drama for you.

    Best drama of 2020
    Can't wait for season 2

  • It's Okay to Not Be Okay

    2. It's Okay to Not Be Okay

    Korean Drama - 2020, 16 episodes

    10

*Best FL. Instead of trying to recall a FL (and tomorrow's ML) out of 300 drama I've seen, I've decided to choose one out of the 5 dramas I'm watching right now. Is anyone surprised it would be the baddest female Go Moon Young from It's Okay to Not Be Okay? She rocks, really! from her outfits to her attitude, she's just SO cool. I wish more female leads would be as savage as her, not savage and funny but really savage. I'm also so addicted to her voice, couldn't imagine other actress playing her.

I'm in tears, happy tears. This drama was amazing!! I really want to rewatch it ASAP *-*

*Favorite family. To celebrate the ending of it- I'll choose the trio that made me in seconds move from laughing out loud to sobbing and vice versa. I hope for everyone who wants to start a family with someone, to be accepted by their partners' relatives like here (obviously not like her side ha).

*Favorite romance of the year. I've started the challenge a bit late so I haven't seen other member's answers but I'm sure I'm not at all original picking It's Okay to Not Be Okay. It's my favorite drama of 2020 hands down. The script was great (except from the very obvious twist at the end), the actors were superb and the chemistry between the leads was just fire.

*Favorite costumes of the year. Even though the girls in Penthouse also dress up quite nicely, I think no girl this year was dressed as beautiful as was Seo Ye Ji while playing the writer Go Moon Young. They wanted to make a femme fatal out of her and found pieces that highlighted her nice figure. Most of her looks were so special that it's quite hard to pick a favorite.

*I won't be surprised if you've seen it, probably it's the most popular drama of the year. Kim Soo Hyun made a great comeback and both his and Seo Ye Ji's characters had many layers and it was interesting to go through all of them. Great chemistry and nice kisses is always a plus.

  • The World of the Married

    3. The World of the Married

    Korean Drama - 2020, 16 episodes

    10

Started this with no expectations whatsoever since I'm not a big fan of Kim Hee Ae's productions but I was pleasantly surprised. This drama is DAEBAK, I get why the rating is so high.

*Best villian.  Lee Tae Ho. He's the main lead but for me he definitely is a villain. He ruined his own life, the life of his wife, his mistress and his kids. And the most awful thing is he didn't really feel any remorse for all the things he did. It's quite obvious he has some mental condition but still he's a villain and he needs to be counted for his crimes. Nevertheless, he was handsome throughout the whole journey and I wanted them to get back together lol

*A drama that surprised me. I started watching it with zero expectations, maybe even with minus zero. All previous projects of Kim Hee Ae I disliked and dropped so I didn't really look forward to this drama. But I've read about the rating of it in SK and decided to give it a try.
This drama was a roller-coaster of emotions and really is one of my TOP5 dramas of this year. I don't understand people who are telling this drama is way too dark and that only people who've experienced cheating will enjoy it. After all, it's a fictional story that showcases actors' amazing talent and it's a pity to miss on it.

*If you want to get out some aggressions, you should watch this drama and scream at the screen while feeling angry and frustrated with EVERY single character. This drama has the highest rating in JTBC history. and that's , well, I guess because humans like to see other humans suffer and hope those things won't happen to them lol

  • Missing: The Other Side

    4. Missing: The Other Side

    Korean Drama - 2020, 12 episodes

    10

*Best cinematography of the year. I'm not sure what cinematography even means but I think it has to do with how you film the show visually lol and if that's the case, Missing: The Other Side definitely wins. All the "unreal" content was filmed beautifully, I didn't felt that the CGI was crappy like in The King Eternal Monarch or Eternal Love S2.
The most good looking ever ML and amazingly talented cast.

*Best actor of the year. Heo Joon Ho (2ML). I first got to know him in Come and Hug Me and I was quite shocked with his abilities to play a villain so believingly, as well as him being quite handsome for his age (dude ain't that young anymore). Then, almost a year ago I've seen one of the most popular all time Korean movies Silmido and again I was blown away.
I've waited patiently for him to get the role of the good guy and finally Missing came. He made me feel all those feeling for him there. I looked up at him, pitied him and rooted for his happy ending.
Hope he'll get another great role next to show his extraordinary acting abilities.

*This is a fantasy drama of guys who're trying to unveil crimes and murders but to me, it's more about comradeship. All of them live in this magical village where the motto is "all for one and one for all" which is beautiful and touching to watch. Also the ML is non other than Go Soo, the most handsome Korean man alive *-*

  • Hi Bye, Mama!

    5. Hi Bye, Mama!

    Korean Drama - 2020, 16 episodes

    10

*1/16. My prettiest unni is back!!

The most heartbreaking drama out there.

*Favorite fantasy drama. my favorite unni who finally returned back to dramaland, the gorgeous Kim Tae Hee Every ep went by in tears with her. I just couldn't stop bowling.
and even when I was on a vacation abroad (way back when traveling was still possible and Europe wasn't stricken with this virus), I woke up earlier to watch every ep as soon as it got translated.
This drama ain't nothing but a full 10. I totally recommend it but be aware of its' sadness.
The biggest lesson from this drama is like the second FL have mentioned- not every step mom is evil. Some love whole heartily their step kids.

*A drama that made me cry. Was there a drama this year that made us cry more than Hi Bye, Mama! ? I don't think so. I mean, there was almost no ep that passed by without tears. It was so so sad, and hurting for them. The ending as well was just upsetting. Before, I felt like I can cry on each ep only while watching This Is Us but Hi Bye, Mama! definitely gave it a run.
He cries, I cry. She cries, I cry. Best friends cry, I cry. New wife cries, I cry. Parents cry, I cry. Kid cries, I cry. It's a cycle you can't get out of.

*Kim Tae Hee's comeback drama couldn't be more perfect. This drama is all about how much family and friends matter. How the love of a mother can get you to do things you never thought of. Prepare a box of tissues and go ahead and watch this drama that plays on your heartstrings.

  • Alice

    6. Alice

    Korean Drama - 2020, 16 episodes

    10

*Currently airing drama that is 8/9/10. Definitely Alice. I'm a sucker for Kim Hee Sun and that woman clearly has a thing for choosing great projects. Also time travel is one of my favorite genres so I was really looking forward to it even before the start of the drama.
As it began, I was not disappointed. The story is super interesting, both MLs are handsome af, and I only hope that they won't come up with a ridicules love line between Joo Won and Kim Hee Sun (mother and son eww) and the rating for me will still be 10/10.
In the pic: not Joo Won ;) couldn't stand if he'll look at her with this loving gaze.

I loved this drama, most of the time ;)
Yes it was hell of a crazy ride, but I love time travel things and the lead actors too, tho I know there are points there that even I don't agree on them like forcing a mom-son romance till the last bit of it.

*Favorite mystery drama of the year.  I know many loved to hate it, and yes it was very complicated and difficult to understand but it was very interesting to me. Every revelation was shocking and I looked forward to each ep.
The leads were a big plus, Kwak Shi Yang is so good looking *-*

  • Flower of Evil

    7. Flower of Evil

    Korean Drama - 2020, 16 episodes

    10

I would've found it much more appealing if Jun Ki played the bad guy but anyways the drama was beautiful.
I didn't know Jun Ki and Moon Chae Won were exactly the pairing I needed, they look just perfect together.
It's nice also to have a portrayal of young family in the center of a drama. We usually encounter no kids at all or teenagers, and in my opinion the first years after the child is born are the real test for the relationship and we've seen it here crystal clear (obviously with other juicy elements).

*Favorite character of the year. The FL. This woman is everything. She's a caring wife. Always loving and supporting her problematic husband.
She's a badass police officer who knows how to keep secrets and how to fight the bad guys.
She knows her value, and doesn't let others tell her what to do.
And most importantly she's a mother, a working mother, and like Gal Gadot says about this type of women- "Every mother is a Wonder Woman".
She's also extremely beautiful, but that's the actress not the character ;)

  • Hospital Playlist

    8. Hospital Playlist

    Korean Drama - 2020, 12 episodes

    10

*A scene I keep thinking of. Hospital Playlist. Ep 1. A guy enters the ER with a helmet on his head and a kid. Instead of getting admitted and his helmet being taking care of, he's reveled to be one of our ML and professors. With a helmet on his head he goes on and performs a surgery. Bizarre. Did any of you have seen a doctor working with a helmet on? cause all my family of doctors- grandma, mom and brother haven't seen one lol ;)

I LOVED THIS DRAMA! Everything about it was good, except the tears lol I felt really a masochist while watching it cause I was always crying.
Don't know why they are doing second season and gave us this uncertain ending. I don't like open ending so that's why I reduced half a point.
Happy finally we got a full drama to enjoy Jo Jung Suk's singing and not just an OST *-*

  • My Forever Sunshine

    9. My Forever Sunshine

    Thai Drama - 2020, 19 episodes

    10

My god I'm in love with this couple! And I was in such an inner conflict while watching cause he's so happy with Kim but he and Kao look so good together that I couldn't stop shipping them *-* I'm so happy to finally see Pi Mark smile so much in a drama! I think it's quite similar to My Husband In Law cause in both FL first persuaded him and then ML did but unlike there, you can see here that he's into her quite fast, and that makes all the difference and makes it a better drama. tho I didn't really feel from the older her that she liked him as much as he did nor as the younger her did.

*A drama that was too short. I don't know whether others will feel the same way but since it's my favorite drama at the moment, I would've loved a few more eps that would follow the couple from My Forever Sunshine in their daily lives after marriage. I'm interested if he would've made her continue on doing labor work, of her progress in the rose garden, his projects, maybe kids and well giving us the opportunity to have some more romantic scenes between the two.

*The comfort zone. When I've just started watching K-dramas over a decade ago I used to rewatch many times You're Beautiful or Playful Kiss but this tendency has diminished over the time. Nevertheless in the recent couple of years I've rewatched already three times My Forever Sunshine and this days it's finally being translated to my native language so fourth time is on it's way lol When I'm a bit down I put on clips of great moments from the show and my mood brightens up. Putting it in the background is a bit difficult since my Thai ain't nothing like my Korean and not even like my close to nothing Chinese but I've just recently after a long period of time changed my profile pic from the show (and my personal) power couple Mark & Kao *-*

  • The Uncanny Counter

    10. The Uncanny Counter

    Korean Drama - 2020, 16 episodes

    10

    Loved this drama!
Definitely one of the biggest surprises of 2020.
Didn't think I'll enjoy it as much as I did.

*Favorite antagonist of the year. I know the drama only began, but I think this drama's antagonist is just mind blowing. He's so evil and frightening it's crazy. The actor is that good that while looking at him on screen, I'm afraid I'll have nightmares afterwards, especially after the ending of ep 6. He's such a great actor, I'm interested how his future will unfold.

  • Oh My Baby

    11. Oh My Baby

    Korean Drama - 2020, 16 episodes

    9.5

Beautiful drama. Started quite boring but slowly and steadily became something you can't take your eyes from. Jang Na Ra unni like always is extraordinary!

  • My Husband in Law

    12. My Husband in Law

    Thai Drama - 2020, 15 episodes

    9.5

The drama was really good but the 3 last eps totally opted for a heavy note and changed the whole sequence of events. I didn't really like this change, and if not for it, I would've ranked it 10/10.
    The OST is a killer!!

*Favorite OST of the year. It's funny to me that after watching more than twenty 2020 Kdramas, the one that I loved the most is from the only 2020 Thai drama I've seen. but the opening song of My Husband in Law is so so beautiful that it's the most memorable song to me of 2020.

  • Start-Up

    13. Start-Up

    Korean Drama - 2020, 16 episodes

    9.5

Great drama but it forced on us the second ML syndrome way too much.
When I’ve started it, I was a Nam Ji Hyuk & Suzy shipper but almost at the end, I began to ship her with the other guy. Do San lacked a character, and while it might be charming at times, Seo Dal Mi needed a “man” to counter her, and Ji Pyung is much more suitable. I cried with him all the time cause he really went through a lot and still didn’t get his happy ending.
The comedy element of the drama deserves 10/10.

*A drama that made me laugh the most this year. I know that when I started it, I complained here on MDL that it has a sad tone and makes me cry (something that happened occasionally as the drama proceeded), but those comical relief moments were just gold. His parents were so funny and also the guys had such a great chemistry that having the three of them on screen, always brought a smile to my face.
The scene I remember the most was the one that the guys of Samsan Tech were feuding and one of them got milk into his eyes and they were all freaking out. That was just hilarious.

  • 18 Again

    14. 18 Again

    Korean Drama - 2020, 16 episodes

    9.5

*First drama completed in 2021. My friend (@Diana96) couldn't stop raving about this drama so the first one I've started (and finished after a few days lol) was this one.
I really loved the original movie with Zac Efron. As other girls, I was also head over heels for him and obviously this contributed to the love for the movie and keeping it in a soft corner in my heart.
The drama was almost as impeccable. The cast was great, full of talented actors. It was so nicely made and produced that you really got captivated and just wanted everyone to get their happy ending ASAP.

  • Into the Ring

    15. Into the Ring

    Korean Drama - 2020, 32 episodes

    9.5

*Best ML. You might have expected to see here Kang Tae but no, I don't "want him" (insert Moon Young's voice). Actually out of my five currently airing dramas, I think the best ML is Seo Gong Myung from Into the Ring.
Even tho he was born with a silver spoon in his mouth, he's extremely down to earth and hard working fella. He takes his job and colleagues seriously, he's very caring and ready to help but not naively helpful. He won't let people use him for their own purposes and always has a clear mind set of what he wants. He's also pretty adorable towards the girl he likes.
As for the actor, it's really nice to see him doing such a different role from his previous psychopath character.

First time ever that I've enjoyed a political drama.
They were adorable together, the plot was super interesting and Nana, come on, so beautiful! She was in my list of top 5 prettiest idols for years, finally got to see her acting skills (I don't like action- like her previous work).
I watched out of curiosity towards the ML after seeing him in Psychopath Diary, and I was so pleasantly surprised. Totally recommend!!

*A drama outside the comfort zone. I usually stay away from political dramas even if I like the leads but this time around I'm happy I gave it a try even if everyone advised me to watch Train rather than that.
The political plot actually was light and pretty interesting.
The romance between the leads was also quite refreshing and pleasant to watch.
I just loved this drama, favorite KBS drama of 2020.

  • Train

    16. Train

    Korean Drama - 2020, 12 episodes

    9.0

TBH At first I really regretted starting this drama. The eps dragged for me and I was too bored.
But somewhere around ep 6, everything has changed. It became so interesting and I was way too immersed in it.
I don't think the ending was executed perfectly, since I'm still left with questions about things I don't understand, but overall it was great.

*A drama that needed more episodes. I wanted to say Alice because I was left with too many questions but as the script was written thus far, I'm not sure few more eps would've helped lol So my second drama that I was left with questions is Train. I had really a tough start with it, but it grew on me and I was left wanting more. I was curious how they would solve all the murders between the two worlds and I was left a bit unsatisfied. I know sometimes dramas like to give us an open ending, but I feel like maybe with a few more eps it could've been more clear for us viewers how everything got resolved.

  • The Romance of Tiger and Rose

    17. The Romance of Tiger and Rose

    Chinese Drama - 2020, 24 episodes

    9.0

I really liked this drama. What a breath of fresh air to see an opposite world from ours where women are at the top of all the positions, and are the ones who control their relationships and family affairs.
Unlike ML who always challenges himself, I'm sad to see Lusi (who's no doubt a wonderful actress) again in a historical cdrama playing a quirky, sassy and stupid yet wise character. I'm thankful though I gave this drama a chance and it was so great and brought on me all this laughs and caring feelings for our main leads, cause TBH I'm a bit burned still from her previous drama Love Like the Galaxy that was absolutely horrendous.
p.s: did you know that while this drama was airing cnetzines were bashing Lusi for weighting over 45 kg??? such a disgrace!

  • Kairos

    18. Kairos

    Korean Drama - 2020, 16 episodes

    9.0

Nice drama with a great cast.
Enjoyed the thrilling feeling of it and the suspense till the very last bit :)

*A drama that kept me on my toes. I think it will be illegal to use Penthouse again after I've talked about it in this context almost all the time last year so I'll go with Kairos ;) I absolutely love time travel shows, even the ones that communicate between the present day and the past like here or in Signal. It adds such a dramatic layer to the show that it's hard for it to not be thrilling, cause it always talking about resolving a mystery. The drama was so intriguing that I was kept on my toes till the very last sec of it. Shin Sung Rok was as amazing as always and I was surprised seeing Lee Se Young as FL but she performed extremely well. Another one who deserves a warm mention is Nam Gyuri that although practically ruined her face with all the plastic surgery she did, played the villain so meticulously, with the right expressions, that I was shocked.

  • When My Love Blooms

    19. When My Love Blooms

    Korean Drama - 2020, 16 episodes

    9.0

I actually liked this drama a lot.
It's true that the last 4 eps weren't that interesting but it won't make me forget how we got this far.
So many years passed since I've seen God's Gift and I forgot how beautiful Lee Bo Young is. She looks so young too, I was mesmerized by her beauty.
Jinyoung ain't my bias in Got7 but maybe I should change? lol He quite surprised me with his acting skills tho I'm not sure that him and Yoo Ji Tae are a right young-old pairing. No matter how much Jinyoung will work out, he'll never bulk up this much, and it bothered me a bit.
I grew up on Park Shi Yeon so I'm upset she played the bad girl, but she wasn't as bad as you would imagine and she shown that her character has an inside kindness.
Overall, I recommend this drama to everyone who has no problem with slow pace romance drama that past and present are entwined together in the plot.

  • Mr. Queen

    20. Mr. Queen

    Korean Drama - 2020, 20 episodes

    8.5

I'm quite positive that if there was another ML I would've ranked this drama higher. He's not my cup of tea since School 2017 and so I stayed away from this drama but I saw a clip of it and understood it's a remake of one of my favorite Cdramas Go Go Princess so I've had to watch. He's a great actor, I'm giving him that, but something in his face makes me think he's not that good of a person (and this I felt even before his scandal with Seo Ye Ji).
Anyways, this drama gave me big laughs, Shin Hye Sun was incredible and so were all the veteran actors and In Woo (and I really didn't expect much from him). Occasionally I really felt sorry for the original drama cause it had such a small budget and always those bad outfits and camerawork. With just few dollars from this budget it would've looked totally different. :(
I think that the side stories could've taken a much less screen time (e.g. the cousin-friend).
btw it's a bit weird that they were all lovey-dovey in the end since he fell in love with her (*his*) personality and not looks so it's weird he just embraced her new character. also, with so much blood- she had to have an abortion.

  • Eternal Love of Dream

    21. Eternal Love of Dream

    Chinese Drama - 2020, 56 episodes

    8.5

What a great ending. The drama wasn't as good as the previous season but the fact that they centered on the couple I shipped before, was a dream come true.
I personally not a fan of the concept of the 3 lives, but anyways it was beautiful to see how their romance unfolded through them. and such attractive main leads is always a bonus.

*Favorite historical of the year. The only historical drama of the year that I've seen (and let's all ignore General's Lady) is the second season of Eternal Love.
Yes, I loved the first season much more. and the concept of the three words for me was totally confusing. But I loved the characters and if they want to make a third season, I'm on board.

  • Lost Romance

    22. Lost Romance

    Taiwanese Drama - 2020, 20 episodes

    8.5

This drama really doesn't have in between pacing, it's or slow as hell or turbo-fast, so it gets a bit annoying at times.
When ML's sister walked in, I wished she would be the FL. So beautiful and fierce, too bad we don't have usually FL like her, only obnoxious with bad character 2FL. Don't get me wrong FL was great, kind of a mixture of Sandra Ma and the girl from House of Dragon lol
I want to say kudos for the ML for practically playing two different characters. Like others, I too preferred his real version.
Unlike other recent dramas I've completed, I was shocked to find out who the bad guy is this time around, so great job writers.
I think it would've been a bit more refreshing if he didn't regain his memory, but maybe it would've interfered with the 'happily ever after' concept so never mind. They were absolutely adorable together and even though I didn't rank it higher, I smiled from ear to ear in most of their scenes.
btw I'm happy he let her taste a bit from her own medicine with that drone ;)
*Also, it has nothing to do with the actors or plot but it was super upsetting that after each 7-10 minutes there was a stop-music-romantic scenes- repeat previous scene- continue from where we stopped- stop

  • Love Is Sweet

    23. Love Is Sweet

    Chinese Drama - 2020, 36 episodes

    8.5

Exactly what I needed after Till the End of the Moon. This is the ending they never had. OMG so adorable. BUT I have to say that probably another couple wouldn't get from me this high of a grade. cause overall the drama was quite boring. Yes, it was refreshing to see a real grown up relationship unlike they do in Kdramas, but there were so many irrelevant scenes, like the ones of the second couple. I never skipped in a drama scenes like I did with that stupid girl. I know they like to romanticize it (we've see it before in Itaewon Class), but she was STALKING him! and after so much exposure, he got glued to her. That's a psychological phenomenon, not love.
And 2ML, what's going on with you (except looking like a much manlier version of Hwang In Youp)? Have you decided if you're a bad guy or a good guy? and his sister- what's wrong with the writer about letting her be in the last scene. Her actions don't really have redemption.
    A Very depressing OST.
But I'm all in for another Bai Lu and Luo Yunxi drama *-*

  • Dinner Mate

    24. Dinner Mate

    Korean Drama - 2020, 32 episodes

    8.5

This drama went through a lot. There were times it was a 10/10 drama and others (especially the 6 last eps) that it was hell boring and therefore 8/10.
Still I'll be nice and rate it higher, cause it was a nice and refreshing drama, with great characters and one Sueng Hun oppa *-*

*Kdrama recently finished. Dinner Mate. It started good, continued amazing and finished boring. Still I gave it a 9/10 for the good times of it.
Also Seung Hun oppa is the ML and I love him! It's the first drama of him that I've seen since When a Man's Inlove (2013). He was much more awesome here *-*

  • Itaewon Class

    25. Itaewon Class

    Korean Drama - 2020, 16 episodes

    8.0

I was happy at first for Park Seo Joon that he did a different drama from his original rom-coms but this drama came out just as predictable.
The beginning was great, and if it would've continued this way, I would've given it a 10/10 BUT it had to be unrealistic-
He somehow overpowered a chaebol even made him go on his knees and he started liking the girl who chased him (even though he still calls her classmate a kid- weird right that he sees her as a woman suddenly?).

  • Was It Love?

    26. Was It Love?

    Korean Drama - 2020, 16 episodes

    8.0

This drama really went through ups and downs. It started good, then went downhill. Ep 12-15 were gold and the last ep again was weak.
Watching this drama made me understand all those Song Ji Hyo critics, cause she really sucked in those dramatic scenes. but hey- she's beautiful and I'm on my way to watch this week's Running Man ep so I'm guessing I'll keep on following up with her productions.
Very happy this drama made me change my view on Song Jong Ho. After 4 dramas, I feel like I rediscovered him.
Son Ho Jun is always good but he really didn't shine here- the script was way too lousy.
This was the first time I encountered the other 2 guys (tho I knew one of them is Ji Young oppa's brother in-law) and they are pretty handsome and great actors, hope to see them again.

*Favorite Male Supporting Lead. I see that the quantity of likes diminishing in correlation with the popularity of the currently airing dramas mentioned (It's Okay Not to Be Okay > Into the Ring > Backstreet Rookie). Let's see where's today drama in the hierarchy ;) - Was It Love? 's Ryu Jin. When I thought about the pros and cons of the drama before it was released, the actor who plays this character was a con. I've seen him in a few dramas already and he never played a character I liked but this time around just WOW he's the funniest, the mood maker (and this drama sometimes needs it) and really is enjoyable the watch. Therefore this guy is quite a great actor, cause he brings so much to this hilarious character, couldn't image anyone else besides him- We must have some tall guy next to Ho Jun so he'll get proportions about his height lol

I’ve seen Lee Il Hwa in countless productions but I think she really gave the performance of her life in this project.
As much as I love smiley and nice Yeon Jung Hun, IMO his talent is totally wasted in the good guy roles.
I have expected a bit more from a Lee Yu Ri project. I usually have all those feelings while watching her makjangs- frustration, anger, happiness and here, only occasionally I cried.
But the last ep was really good, all the revelations were SO surprising for me that I seriously thought over putting the grade higher but overall it was only an okay plus drama to me.

I was really looking forward to watch this drama with all the buzz it had while airing and truly it was so good, until it wasn’t. It could’ve been a masterpiece but the ep count was too ambitious and the story just dragged in the last 10-15 eps.
The eps about their teen (and childhood) years were just wonderful. I cried and laughed so much with them. Her dad is just an amazing human being. But as they grew old and especially when they started centering around the romance, it started to bore me and so it took me a really long time to finish the drama even though I practically binged most of the first half.
Also, not so fond of the big age difference between the leads. He looks way too young for her..

After so many back and forth of the ML with his relationship towards the FL, can someone really blame me that I stopped caring from a certain point if his love story with the FL will have a happy ending (even when since the very beginning my heart did ache for them)? Sometimes it's better to not have anything, cause only then, without worries you're truly happy.
Also, ML really sucks at acting! I never noticed it before (I've seen him in a few movies) but here it was just torture to watch. Leave the dubbing aside, those expressions that had absolutely nothing to do with the situation (semi-smiles) were just a buzz kill. I now understand why so many like Xiao Zhan (haven't seen the Untamed). He was really a silver lining in comparison to the ML. The change of the FL and the female villain were way too drastic in a short time period so not really credible but a fine drama overall. with a great OST and bad graphics.

*Least favorite performance: I know it's not a 2022 drama but no other actor this year surprised me with the lack of acting skills like this dude. I've seen him previously in teen rom-com movies but nothing prepared me to suffer with him in this long length (49 eps) drama. The story was so interesting but his less than average acting skills that showed crystal clear with the complexity feelings he had to portray, just ruined everything for me.

If Moon Ga Young looks like Jo Bo Ah and JBA is beautiful- does MGY is beautiful as well? ;)
I've been wanting to watch this drama for quite some time, first time seeing the leads as leads (him I've seen only in Coffee Prince and he has the cutest smile). The start was very promising and interesting but at about ep 6 it started to become quite boring and I had zero will to finish the last 6 eps (which I did obv).
Also as someone who stayed away from her, suddenly out of the blue to say her that you love her (before saying "I care for you", " I like you") is super weird!
Bottom line, I don't recommend but I'm planning to start MGY's current drama since she's quite a good actress.

At first, I thought it will be way too similar to other KBS drama- Lovely Horrible, but as the eps proceeded, they quite drifted from it while keeping intact the main theme that's the same.
I know he's a terrible and cheating husband, but I can't imagine a guy continuing on living with a woman like her, no matter how smart or beautiful she is.
All this talks about ways to kill her own husband, that I'm still shocked he didn't piss his pants and asked for a divorce afterwards. We know, and he knows, she won't kill him, but to live constantly in such a toxic environment is impossible IMO.

If I take in account Ji Chang Wook's dramas from the last years, I should be grateful for this one. He finally showed his talent and looks in a kind of an interesting story. It was more of a comical relief to me and the second leads were great as well.
And I feel such a Korean person to say that but I feel like Kim Ji Won saved the country in her past life lol. How does she get to play with all the most good looking guys in SK? only Go Soo is left and she can quit.

*A drama location I'd like to visit. Although I've been in Jeju already and it's beaches are as amazing as portrayed in dramas, I didn't have the "party people" experience (or maybe it's just Ji Chang Wook that makes everything look better?). I haven't seen any beach-bar in the area like they showed in Lovestruck in the City and I visited in April so it was way too windy and cold to go to the beach so I'd love to come back there and have more fun experiences and less touristy ones.
I just feel like I'm in need of a vacation overall after starting work on my dissertation, what will I do for the next two years? lol

My rating might have been better if the expectation weren't so high. But seriously all those reviews with the 10/10 score puts you in a mindset that you're about to witness some over the top drama.
    But that wasn't the case.
Full of uninteresting side stories, bad friends who mostly only cared about themselves, and the typical Cdrama wish to make a second couple out of a friend of the FL and a friend of the ML.
Actually the thing that I was most worried about, the age difference, didn't bother me at all, and I guess it's because all the other things did.

I loved the most in this drama the relationship between the ex husband and the current husband. They formed such a nice comradeship that was admirable to watch.
I think the ending wasn't that good cause the drama itself as it proceeded made us stop looking forward for this type of ending, and then suddenly at the very last ep to get back to it is IMO stupid.

First of all, I want to applaud the sylist team for dressing the ML in a way he doesn't look his actual age. When I've watched some videos the main leads did to promote the drama, I've noticed quite quickly he's younger than the FL, but in the drama you can't notice it at all.
Secondly, they had a quite peaceful romance throughout the drama. On the one hand, it's quite refreshing to see a realistic romance, with not much trouble. On the other hand, they didn't show any progress at all. The drama just kind of showed us the life of this adorable couple and that's it.

This drama genre is practically melancholy, the OST, the story, the landscape.
It had it's good points thanks to the amazing (and very good looking) cast, but overall especially more than half way through it, it was a complete boredom and I can't even believe I managed to survive it thus far.

*Favorite actress discovered of the year. Many of you have probably already known Im Soo Hyang since she played the lead in the very popular drama My ID Is Gangnam Beauty, but I firstly seen her here (couldn't even remember that she appeared few times on Running Man). In no way do I recommend you to watch this sad drama, but after I started it for Ha Suk Jin oppa and Ji Soo, I got to know Im Soo Hyang and fell in love.
First of all, she is truly a beauty, don't know if one who's living in Gangnam, but a beauty ;)
Second of all, she's crazily talented. She had such a tough role to play in such a problematic drama and yet she really led it and outshone everyone, even the boys for whom I've started it.
I'm definitely going to keep up with her next projects.

Like a reviewer of the drama summed it up- addictive but not entertaining. I don't know who in Thailand thought that someone will ship a couple in which the guy r*ped the girl and wish them happily ever after. He harassed her on so many occasions that they took the slap & kiss to a whole different level. Then again, this country have produced Kluen Cheewit as well which gained even internationally immense success *facepalm*
ML had robot acting. I don't know how guys like him receive leading roles. It was at times torture to watch him, even without taking into account the rubbish script he takes out of his mouth.
Second main leads were the only silver lining. I was much more curious about their story.

I got so many recommendations here on MDL to watch this drama that I've started it with high expectations. ML Lee Jae Wook didn't help to lower them either ;)

So what I liked about this drama is its' resemblance to telenovelas (which I miss dearly ). Unlike other reviewers, I don't think the leads had that much chemistry but they were extremely funny together. The actress had a very expressive eyes which I liked alot.
But there's a certain point which made me very disappointed in this drama. In my country currently there are many demonstrations against sexual violence towards women that became common through the pandemic, so that made me very sensitive towards this topic. The drama emphasized many eps on him trying to persuade her to have sex with him, even tho she constantly told him she wasn't ready for it. No matter if you're in a romantic relationship or not, NO means NO! and I really disliked the fact that the drama portrayed it in a comical way, and that it was one of the things they focused on (to get her laid) throughout the second half of the drama.

*4/16. I've waited patiently for Lee Min Ho's return, and I'm a really big fan of Kim Go Eun's acting but this drama just feels to me as full of bullsh*t.

Complicated drama since day 1, and the CG was just awful.
I haven't rated this low a Lee Min Ho drama since Boys Before Flowers.
Kim Go Eun was totally wasted in this project and her acting was so much over the top here.

*Most disappointing drama of the year. I think everyone waited for Lee Min Ho's comeback drama. Kim Go Eun is also a very talented actress that in addition to parallel universe things that I love, made my expectations for this drama very high. But as many other viewers I was extremely disappointed. Their chemistry was lacking, even though I think it's the most romance Lee Min Ho did in any of his dramas. The story was so so confusing, and ended quite bad. The only perk of this drama is that because of the parallel universe, it let the actors show their versatile acting abilities while playing two characters each.

This drama was very nice at start but only the very few first eps.
It was quite boring, and I haven't seen the original version but from the comments I understand that the Korean version is only a bad pretender.
Unlike others I think they should've changed the ML not the FL since she's the one with more acting experience. I don't think it would've changed much if the script is lousy but throughout the drama I thought about what would've happened if another more experienced actor had the ML role.
They got lucky they used Jong Kook oppa's song at the intro (my phone ringtone for the last 5-7 years), so I started each ep with a smile even though there was nothing good looking for.

I read in a review that the fact this drama is trying to touch all sorts of fields (medicine, business ext.) is ruining it and I couldn't agree more.
It started quite good but around the middle of it, I just wished it will end already.
The romance was quite nice- the leads had great chemistry and if I have to applaud this drama for a thing, I would say that it's good they portrayed realistically the life of firefighters. Usually dramas/movies romanticize it, but here they showed us the mental and psychological struggles of those who risk their lives daily to protect us. so kudos for that :)

    So so disappointed.
This drama had one of the highest ratings in Thailand last year, so my expectations were high.
Then again, I’ve been watching over a decade Kdramas and still sometimes I don’t agree with the Korean public opinion so I guess I shouldn’t have believed to the Thai popular opinion.
Very expressive FL even tho many have complained on her being only a cry baby. I want to see them in the situations she had gone through and not wanting to cry all the time lol

Finally this drama is over ;)
I've been thinking which is the worst Kdrama of the year- this or Ji Chang Wook's one, but I think it's JCW's.
Record of Youth's plot just didn't go anywhere, and I think that's because they emphasized the least interesting of the relationships which is the one between the main leads. I was much more curious about all the other interactions that were there.
Practically from the very beginning it was plotless and just let us look into the life of the individuals who starred in it, while JCW's drama just had an awful and stupid story, and had much worse quality.
The conclusion is better to shut up and let anyone think you're bad, than open your mouth and prove it (or open your script lol).

*Drama that needs less episodes. I mean did this drama even had any story at all? It didn't move anywhere, and it's ending just showed that this drama wasted our time. The secondary characters' story sometimes was interesting but not enough to move this whole thing. Bot the leads' talent has gone for nothing. Bible that I don't understand not Park Bo Gum nor Park So Dam why they picked this project. I wish I had the Whatsapp emoji of the face palm to add here several times ;)

I don’t know what it is with the new season of Alchemy of Souls but I’m way too addicted and so I’ve picked up this project even though it ain’t close to be my cup of tea, only because of Yoon Jung-ie. Her and Kim Gab Soo appearance were a silver lining inside the whole bad guys/neighbors/monsters surrounding.
Not sure why there’s so many positive reviews about this drama, there really isn’t anything special there, your typical disaster show where people come together to survive and along the way many cast members lose their lives.
Serious plot hole- one of the survivors was from the first ones who’ve shown the symptoms. Yet, she’s totally fine and it’s not like she became a super monster like Song Kang.

  • Backstreet Rookie

    49. Backstreet Rookie

    Korean Drama - 2020, 16 episodes

    4.5

*Favorite Female Supporting Lead. Continuing with the usage of only currently airing drama's characters- Backstreet Rookie's Sunhwa, sorry, Yoo Yeon Joo ;)
I was fed up with Ji Chang Wook's dramas after Melting Me Softly (I mean- how many bad scripts a guy can take?), and I said that I'm not going to watch his next drama. Then, they appeared on Running Man and I saw the chemistry between him and Sunhwa and decided to give it a try (I still think that this drama too is a bad script-wise choice).
Their relationship was my only silver lining in this drama, I was rooting for them (even tho it's not logical since she's not the FL and NEVER second FL ends with the ML). I was arguing about how good she is for the plot (she loves him, and she's rich and not sure about their relationship- why would she tell him all the truth about her family) with others in the drama's comment section. I know it might not be a popular opinion but still, everyone can have their own and I can't seem to understand why some members told me *politely* to drop this drama. I know there are couples with age differences but who can raise their hand and say that Kim Yoo Jung looks better with Ji Chang Wook than Sunhwa does? lol

I thought to myself that Ji Chang Wook can't get a scenario worse than Melting Me Softly. I guess I was wrong.
After his character broke up with Yeon Joo, the drama really went downhill- they had nothing more to talk about. They should have left it to the last eps and not do it mid drama.

Lightspeed fast pacing. You don't understand what happens and you dive straight into their arranged marriage. I thought because of the synopsis ML was one of her high school bullies, but no, it's obvious from the very beginning he liked her even then. Yet I don't understand why she's the only one who's getting hate. He's possessive and doesn't trust her till the very last minute. His behavior was much worse IMO since he's the one who loved more and for a longer period.
Overall, it's not worth your time.

Such a crappy drama it was. It started good but really went downhill after few eps. and after ep 20, they only started to look at more topics as if to add more "action" to drama, but it was just plain stupid.
FL is extremely beautiful but the ML so unattractive. At the last scene where they were dressed in modern clothes, he looked much better, so this specific long hair really was a bad choice.
