Ranking of 2019 dramas I've watched- updating
-
1. Good Bye, My Princess
Chinese Drama - 2019, 52 episodes
Speechless. Can't process my emotions by this ending into words
*Favorite drama of the year. Even tho all the other Chinese dramas I’ve watched this year disappointed me, this one stands tall even before the Korean ones. It was an amazing drama, full of twists that made me laugh but mostly cry. Loved every moment I spent on watching this!
*Drama with the worst ending. Even though I always mention that what I like the most about this drama it's the fact it's real, and like in reality things not always end as we planed, I would loved a happier ending. After all the things the FL has gone through, I really wished for her to get the "lived happily ever after" ending.
*Favorite Cdrama. It was so hard to decide on one.. I've been split between three dramas, and it's so funny all three start with the letter G but decided to go with Goodbye, My Princess (the other 2 were: Go Princess Go and Go Go Squid!). At that time, with this drama I've started a journey of watching plenty of Cdramas. Before that (2019), I usually watched a Cdrama once in awhile but this drama was so breathtaking and amazing that I just craved for more and hoped to come across another as special as this one was from it's origin country. As much as I love Kdramas, there are certain feelings that only Cdramas can provide (just watch few of Bai Lu's dramas and you'll get what I mean). Unfortunately, not a lot of them lived up to the expectations, nor the following dramas of the main leads. But I'm optimistic cause once in awhile I get my hands on a perfect and beautifully heartbreaking drama like this.

2. Extraordinary You
Korean Drama - 2019, 32 episodes
*I couldn't handle anymore posts about Extraordinary You in the feeds and decided to start it. I thought to myself- this is a school drama, you won't find it interesting anyways.
Oh boy, how wrong was I. This drama is so beautiful and sweet, and now like many others I'll live in the torture of waiting for more eps. Oh god, why?!* A drama you expected to dislike but ended up loving. I started watching it very skeptical. The buzz about it was crazy, all the feed was full of memes, and I really didn't know if it's really that good or it's just popular for no reason. I'm also not that of a fan of school dramas, even when I was at school I didn't like them, so now when I'm in my last year in university I even less think they are right for me.
The only thing that made me decide to watch eventually is the webtoon thing. I was hopeful it would be at least a bit good as W- Two World which I loved.
and it was such a great watch. I laughed and cried with them. and I was team Baek Kyung since day 1! even before everyone here started pitying him and wished for him to find happiness as well ;) It was such a precious drama, and in my opinion the best Korean one of this year. -
3. Arthdal Chronicles Part 3: The Prelude to All Legends
Korean Drama - 2019, 6 episodes
Couldn't take my eyes off the screen, such an interesting drama. I wish tho it had a nicer closure.
-
4. My Country: The New Age
Korean Drama - 2019, 16 episodes
Extremely well casting of the 3 male main leads, couldn't imagine this drama without them, they definitely carried the whole story.
-
5. My Girlfriend Is an Alien
Chinese Drama - 2019, 28 episodes
Just my type of drama tho I wished their romance would've been a bit more passionate. and such a fine ML I haven't seen in a long time, especially in Chinese dramas.
I've finished it yesterday and I feel now kind of empty, and it's been a while since a drama made me feel this way lol.
-
6. Hua Jai Sila
Thai Drama - 2019, 27 episodes
-
7. Someday or One Day
Taiwanese Drama - 2019, 13 episodes
Tears started to come out of me since mid of this drama and didn't stop till the last breath of it.
My close friend encouraged me for years to watch this drama but because of FL's hair I thought it's a boy-love drama (nothing against, just not my cup of tea) and stayed away from it. But last month this drama finally got subs in my country's language and I read the synopsis and understood how wrong was I.
What an incredible drama, mind blowing and heart wrenching and warming at the same time. and the OST just adds so much to all of it!
I'll never understand how in time travel dramas few time lines continue at the same time, but it's fantasy so I guess I never will get it lol
the only con is that I wished for a bit better kisses but I think it's the FL's fault and not the script.. -
8. Vagabond
Korean Drama - 2019, 16 episodes
Suzy just picks those golden dramas! It couldn't go wrong anyways. I want to rewatch ASAP lol
*A thriller where you could predict the story since the beginning. I didn't obviously predict everything till the very smallest detail, but I knew what will be the flow of the show. I was quite sure even before they showed "his" assistant back earlier in the show, that HE is the real villain of the story. I have a thing for not just Korean dramas but also variety shows and the whole entertainment world, and so when I start to watch the show I catch on quite fast who are the real interesting characters thanks to the A-list actors who play them. It sometimes even in American movies ruins me the element of surprise but how can I not expect from such a famous actor like Kim Min Jong not to have a bigger role than just a secretary (disclaimer: he is not the HE I mentioned before).
-
9. Go Go Squid!
Chinese Drama - 2019, 41 episodes
I'm in love with this couple!!! *-*
-
10. Crash Landing on You
Korean Drama - 2019, 16 episodes
That was one great last ep!!
-
11. The Romance of Hua Rong
Chinese Drama - 2019, 24 episodes
I wish they would've stuck with the pirate concept from the first eps cause it was pretty fresh. Anyways it was a captivating drama with two leads who can actually kiss which is extremely rare especially in Chinese dramas.
-
12. The Legends
Chinese Drama - 2019, 56 episodes
Such an interesting drama and the leads look so good together, but I didn’t really had those feelings with them so I deduced half a point ;)
First time in a drama that I felt there are way too many characters, the story was great but it was hard sometimes to keep up with all of it’s lines.
Btw it’s unreal to me that in a fantasy drama, someone manages to die from tetanus, like why right there you wanted suddenly put a real element lol -
13. Her Private Life
Korean Drama - 2019, 16 episodes
I won't let the last two eps make my rating decrease, but they definitely were useless and so was the addition of the another turning point in those eps.
I'm a bit sad that I've delayed watching this comical and romantic drama because of my hard feelings towards Park Min Young but she totally redeemed herself in this drama. Her character had so much EQ that I was blown away by many of her speeches.
I love the chemistry between the leads and I wished we had more passionate kiss scenes since we already know Kim Jae Wook is capable of, and so is Park Min Young.
In addition, for the first time, I didn't mind that the supporting cast had so many scenes cause they were really uplifting.
I loved the fangirl concept! -
14. The Tale of Nokdu
Korean Drama - 2019, 32 episodes
Before watching the drama, I've seen comments saying it's one of those dramas that get better in the second half, which is totally true.
When I started it, I was angry at myself cause I didn't enjoy it and I didn't want to watch it in the first place because of the young leads but now I'm happy I did. The drama is very beautiful, makes you mostly laugh but sometimes even shed a tear or two.*Drama with the most satisfying last episode. Usually we get to see happy endings in dramas, but this year somehow many ended on a bad note or had weird endings that call for a second season, but not Nokdu. It had the sweetest last ep and I was smiling brightly by the end of it.
*A drama where you pitied the villain. The king (hope my explanation won't be a spoiler). All his interactions with Nokdu were really sad. Like people say, blood is thicker than water and you can see he became fond of him so fast and learned to care for him, only to eventually again send him to be killed. I really longed for their reunion and never believed he will act like a villain till his last breath.
*Aa Drama that has "Story", "Tale", or "History" in its title. The Tale of Nokdu had the highest rating out of all project in this 3 keywords. I did like it a lot even tho at first I didn't want to watch and just started it because the feeds were full of posts about it. All the relationships were portrayed well and towards the end, the drama became very thrilling. I was really looking forward to see how it will end.
-
15. Le Coup de Foudre
Chinese Drama - 2019, 35 episodes
Heartwarming drama. I cried a lot and laughed a lot, reminds This Is Us in some way.
-
16. When the Camellia Blooms
Korean Drama - 2019, 40 episodes
* A hyped drama you didn't like. I mean it's a nice drama (not something out of this world), and I haven't dropped it yet (nor think I will, cause I practically watched every single drama of Gong Hyo Jin and I don't think I'll stop now lol), but I just can't understand the hype over it. It's the drama with the highest rating in Korea this year and I can't seem to understand why. It might be because it's very similar to weekend family dramas in its' vibe, and I know those are immensely popular there. I'll jut keep on watching and hope for the best.
*Second lead who should have ended up with the main lead. Kang Jong Ryul, I love Ha Neul, I really do, but I feel like Gong Hyo Jin looks much better with Kim Ji Suk than with him. I’m almost at the middle of the drama (but I know for sure they’ll end up together since that’s kind of the direction it goes by now) and Ji Suk oppa still didn’t disappoint me or act in a way I’d prefer Ha Neul to end up with her.Beautiful and different kind of drama. The acting of the cast saved it for me cause I wasn't that drawn to the story, even more upset now that I finished and know that yet again, from the moment he appeared on the screen I knew who the villain was.
On a side note, I hope K-dramas will stop being so predictable. -
17. Search: WWW
Korean Drama - 2019, 16 episodes
A really fresh drama with bad-ass actresses that have done a magnificent job.
-
18. The Sand Princess
Thai Drama - 2019, 14 episodes
Such a cute drama. I've enjoyed every ounce of it.
-
19. Spring Turns to Spring
Korean Drama - 2019, 32 episodes
Such a well made drama! A really pleasant watch, Both actresses are just amazing *-*
*Favorite underrated drama. Out of all dramas I've watched this year, this is the only one I've seen that less than 1000 people rated it so I'll call it underrated lol.
This drama is super funny. I've started it for Lee Jong Hyuk and with the hope for a romance line for him, but wasn't disappointed even when my expectations weren't fulfilled. It's your typical switching body drama, but you don't change a winning formula, and this amazing cast made this more than ordinary story, really extraordinary. -
20. Hotel del Luna
Korean Drama - 2019, 16 episodes
It was a good drama, my favorite part was the historical one and shipped her with her past love interest much more.
-
21. My Secret Bride
Thai Drama - 2019, 18 episodes
The chemistry of the main couple was bomb.
The story was very predicable and it was fine but, at some point it started to drag and move around in circles that I was only interested in the main couple's scenes.
ML has such a great bod, that I even thought at first whether I ship Kao more with him or with Mark but Mark has totally won (I know he's taken and so is she) since this drama can't be compared to My Forever Sunshine.*Favorite actress. The beautiful Kao Supassara. Even tho My Forever Sunshine is a 2020 drama, I've seen it at the start of 21' and I can definitely say that it's my fav drama of the year (if my profile pic still didn't make you understand that), so much that recently I've seen it for the second time and it's all thanks to the amazing couple that stars in it. I Started it for Mark (who also deserves a shout out) but Kao stole the show. Such a talented actress, charming and adorable. Afterwards, I suffered through Hormones, both seasons, only for her (okay for Thor too lol) and watched some of her other productions, that were a bit better lol But you really can see the amount of versatility she has in such a young age. I wish they'll pair them again cause I'll watch that drama ASAP

22. Psychopath Diary
Korean Drama - 2019, 16 episodes
It was a long watch, but very comical and quite suspenseful during the second half of the drama. The actors were exceptional!
-
23. Lucky's First Love
Chinese Drama - 2019, 24 episodes
Wasn’t that bad but not good either.
Watched it for Bai Lu that was a goddess as usual but the last third of the drama was so boring, I didn’t even have the will to try and keep up. -
24. Touch Your Heart
Korean Drama - 2019, 16 episodes
Extremely disappointed from this drama. Usually Yoo In Na unni chooses meaningful dramas with a lot of context but this one was quite boring and except from few scenes that brought a smile to my face, it was quite lacking script wise.
-
25. Before We Get Married
Taiwanese Drama - 2019, 13 episodes
Not a single chance I would've shipped the main pairing after the way the ML acted in the beginning of the drama.
I'm dead serious, the #MeToo campaign talks exactly about guys like him, who use their wealth to force themselves on other women. -
26. V.I.P
Korean Drama - 2019, 32 episodes
I've read a review that says that people (or more precisely women) don't like this drama because it talks about cheating.
Well no, that's a wrong hypothesis cause all of us liked The World of the Married.
Even tho I love dearly Jang Na Ra unni, VIP is just a boring drama. Except of the mystery of the mistress, nothing there keeps you on your toes, and even that wasn't executed well. -
27. Woman of 9.9 Billion
Korean Drama - 2019, 32 episodes
A real disappointment. Only the first 3 eps were interesting and the last 3. Can't understand the hype over it in Korea, the plot was everywhere.
-
28. Melting Me Softly
Korean Drama - 2019, 16 episodes
Not sure if I'll watch JCW's next project. Since Empress Ki he slowly and steadily goes downhill with the choices of dramas he makes. Sometimes even his looks are not enough to hold me glued to the screen.
-
29. Arsenal Military Academy
Chinese Drama - 2019, 48 episodes
I didn't think it will take me this long to finish this drama with all the hype it had while it aired, but it definitely wasn't worth it.
You know I've watched a few Cdramas that evolve around that period, romance isn't the core in any of them so you can't say that because of its' lacking, I didn't like Arsenal. Those dramas story was interesting but this one had way too many characters to keep track with, and wasn't enough compelling anyways. It was upsetting all those who died, but I wasn't enough invested to cry for them.
Also, I can totally understand those who wrote about the lacking chemistry between Bai Lu and Xu Kai. I can't possibly understand how it's possible since I loved them in The Legends (and it was one of the reasons for me starting Arsenal) but something in this pairing just didn't work here. So much that I even developed 2ML syndrome lol
About him, I want to applaud the casting director. the Shen siblings look like real life ones. So very much alike.
Still in awe with Bai Lu and her versatility as an actress. Since the beginning of the drama I just couldn't believe it's the same actress I've seen in two previous dramas just a month ago (because of that I'm double upset that I give this low of a rating and that I didn't find this drama any more appealing). -
30. Well-Intended Love
Chinese Drama - 2019, 20 episodes
It had its' okay moments but mostly was quite boring and full of clichés and bad acting. Specifically, it's been a while since I've seen such a terrible acting from a FL. not that the ML was anything near perfect. At least he had nice suites, FL's dresses on the other hand weren't at all flattering.
I really can't understand how Netflix picked it up with the awful acting and lousy script, but as of now they don't have season 2 and anyways I don't think I'll continue with this boredom for another season. -
31. Kingdom
Korean Drama - 2019, 6 episodes
I've tried it first a few months ago and didn't like it.
With all the talk about the second season in the last days, I've decided I have to finish it (and well Joo Ji Hoon- who can resist him).
Still ain't a fan but the show felt kind of relevant with the coronavirus spreading. -
32. The Love by Hypnotic
Chinese Drama - 2019, 36 episodes
It was good until ep 20 something like that, and then it felt like they remembered they haven't finished the drama and they had to come up with another story for the rest of it ASAP, which completely ruined everything.
-
33. Romance Is a Bonus Book
Korean Drama - 2019, 16 episodes
I've stopped watching on ep 3 when it was still airing. I thought to myself that now when I have time, out of respect to Jong Suk oppa, I have to finish this drama.
It's a really really bad drama. I'm so disappointed with him, and Lee Na Young- You chose that as your comeback drama?*A drama of your favorite actor/actress you wish they had never done I've waited for today's challenge lol. That's easy- Romance is a Bonus Book.
I'm a big fan of Jong Suk oppa since Pinocchio (I've seen the dramas he has done before but even while watching the masterpiece I Can Hear Your Voice, I still didn't like him).
Watching Romance is a Bonus Book was the toughest challenge for me, believe me- and I've seen his stupid movie VIP. I just couldn't understand the plot, it was so so stupid and not progressing. and I was even more upset with Lee Na Young choosing this as her first drama after more than a 5 year hiatus. She created high expectations towards this production. Obviously the romance between the leads was not convincing whatsoever. He should stick to SBS dramas! -
34. My True Friend
Chinese Drama - 2019, 48 episodes
*Worst drama of the year. Like I’ve said in my previous post, the dramas that mostly disappointed me this year were the Chinese ones, therefore I have to choose one of them as the worst. This was a really stupid drama and the only good thing about her was the super photogenic main leads. Total waste of time :(
-
35. Flavour It's Yours
Chinese Drama - 2019, 25 episodes
Probably the worst drama I've ever seen. Such a pathetic couple.
