  • The Time of Fever

    1. The Time of Fever

    Korean Movie - 2024

    10

A longing that in its infancy couldn't be realized. Brimming over with desire and shame, The Time of Fever captured the curiosity, confusion, and fear that often come with the experience of young love for Queer people. Chosen isolation, violent battles waged alone in your mind, denial, hesitant steps forward before sprinting away, jealousy, and parental abuse/distance.

The cinematography and sound design lent themselves to becoming the two MLs' senses, directing our attention to where their attention was. When Dong Hee picks up on Ho Tae's breathing and everything else goes quiet, when in a tension-filled moment, after allowing his gaze to linger, Ho Tae notices Dong Hee's eyes nervously flitting away from his own. The overwhelming grip of Ho Tae's hand on Dong Hee's shoulder, the taste of citrus on Dong Hee's tongue, and the scent of rain surrounding them and soaking both their clothes.

I was beckoned in and captured. Every moment was raw and real enough to make my own breath stop or send a shiver down my spine.

The only reason I considered giving this less than a 10/10 is because it sparked a longing in ME for more.

What are you doing? Go watch it!

  • Wish You: Your Melody From My Heart (Movie)

It's just the sweetest thing. And the OST is like Color Rush's, a magic soothing sleeping pill.

  • To My Star (Movie)

    3. To My Star (Movie)

    Korean Movie - 2021

    9.5

Love this! I do struggle with the rating however. I feel like I should rate it 10/10 stars, as it was wonderful to watch and I can't think of a single thing wrong with it or anything that I would add to it. However, I don't Know if that should be it's actual rating. All I know is that I wouldn't put this lower than a 9/10.

I highly recommend it. Also, if you enjoy this you will enjoy Wish You: Your Melody From My Heart. Both are short, sweet, and simple.

  • Train to Busan

    4. Train to Busan

    Korean Movie - 2016

    9.5

Damn. A zombie movie that made me cry.

The shot of him jumping where it looked like he was flying was so tragic and horrifying yet somehow beautiful.

  • #Alive

    5. #Alive

    Korean Movie - 2020

    9.5

This had me all kinds of speechless.

There isn't actually a lot that happens when I think back on it. It focuses mainly on the day-to-day life during the zombie apocalypse. I mean this as a compliment as this hasn't really been done before.

It makes you feel almost safe. As if you could really pretend life was just the same . . . Until you can't.

  • The Handmaiden

    6. The Handmaiden

    Korean Movie - 2016

    9.5

Lustful, sly, and unconstrained, this was a bold movie for the books. A critique of possession and celebration of desire, all contained within a long and messy con.

I wouldn't recommend it to everyone, though, due to the violent and highly explicit scenes present.

  • Long Time No See

    7. Long Time No See

    Korean Drama - 2017, 5 episodes

    9.5

It says Drama but I saw this in it's movie format, so I'm saying it counts as a movie.

    This was soooo good!

I haven't seen any Gay Korean Romance movie before this that dealt with the mafia. The only comparison I really have is HIStory3: Trapped, but that is Taiwanese and also a drama.

I don't want to spoil anything about it. There were a couple scenes that were hard for me to sit through, but they added to the character so they were completely necessary.

It was bloody, action-packed, and somehow funny and light-hearted at times. They managed to achieve the perfect balance in tone.

I don't know what to rate this. I can't think of anything wrong with it. Is it a 10? Maybe.

  • Love and Leashes

    8. Love and Leashes

    Korean Movie - 2022

    9.5

It was perfectly charming and so so much fun!

There were many awkward moments but I just get "second-hand awkwardness" so that doesn't count against it. Lol. Some people don't like seeing blood. Me, I have to cover my eyes when there's a Really awkward moment with the main characters.

From the beginning our leads are established as being good people right off the bat. Homophobia? They don't like that. Sexism/sexual harassment in the workplace? They don't like that. Together they are wonderfully non-judgmental people interested in something out-of-the-norm.

I loved how healthy and equal (seems contradictory, I know) the relationship was.

Not to mention it was educational about BDSM and showcased it in a respectful manner. And, most importantly, it highlighted the difference between consent in a Dom and Sub interaction and non-con. Just because it's a relationship that involves punishment/pain doesn't mean it's okay for the Dom to do whatever they want. Which is why there's something called communication, and a safe word.

In short, this was an awesome movie!

  • S.O.S

    10. S.O.S

    Korean Movie - 2015

    10

Wow! This was a short film unlike any I've seen. The way they incorporated the colors of the Ace flag, placed you in the position of feeling like the woman during physical intimacy: crawling in your skin while hoping time speeds up, the quiet symbolism in the background. It was all so well-portrayed. I felt this truly spoke to the Ace experience.

Unlike some, I had a bit of a different interpretation regarding what the colors and, ultimately, the ending meant. The FL obviously dons the colors for the Ace flag, and then we have black and white. The Lesbian she meets up with and has sex with wears white, and her Straight boyfriend (and other assumed non-Queer people) wears black. By the end of the film, she gets in an elevator surrounded by people in black and chooses to zip up her black hoodie, declaring she is also black. To me, white represents the Queer Allosexual side, and black represents the Cis Hetero Allosexual (or Non-Queer Allosexual side, if you will). While she is truly Ace, she decides to conceal it. She could cover herself in white, but that would come with many more obstacles than if she took up the black mantle and blended in with the majority. Either way, she is concealing who she is; one comes with society's acceptance, though, making it the safer option.

  • The Four Vampires

    11. The Four Vampires

    Korean Movie - 2018

    10

This is such a hidden gem! I wish I had at least a short web series with these characters. I want to see more of them!

They have such fun personalities and the tone itself is quite apathetic, which I loved.

My heart says 10/10. My mind says no more than 9.5/10.

  • Color Rush (Movie)

    12. Color Rush (Movie)

    Korean Movie - 2021

    9.5

The only differences between this and the drama version are that the special effects were modified and there is now a special scene at the end of the movie hinting at a sequel. Since that is the case I will just put my thoughts about the drama here as they are my same thoughts about the movie.

Beautiful. Sweet, yet incredibly intense. Very different from the typical dramas I've seen in regards to the premise. It somehow blends the genres of light horror and romance perfectly.

Also the way this was shot and directed was great, and the OST is everything!

I think it's really cool how they set up this world with preconceived notions and stereotypes about Monos and a Mono and Probe relationship. And then they demolish Their Own stereotypes!

The more I think about it, this deserves a rating of 9.5/10.

    WOW! Just, wow!

This was a million times better than I thought it would be! I would compare its atmosphere and acting to the tension in ITSAY (I Told Sunset about You) as well as the softness and realness sometimes present in LIS (Life is Strange, the game).

SO funny! What a watch. I thought I saw this some years ago, but I didn't remember much of it so I decided to watch it again before marking it as completed. So happy I did!

Some of these lines if not a majority of them are absolutely ridiculous. A lot of it consists of one moron somehow finding a way to fool a moron who is somehow dumber than him, often through pure luck or absolute naivety. And I LIVED for it! Lol!

I had so much fun watching this! It was hilarious and the chemistry was great. Also, I was not expecting so many kisses! Lol.

The main plot is very strange but enjoyable: a girl who hates math goes back in time and learns to appreciate it (at least that's how I would summarize it).

Side Note: Badass SML was also very attractive :)

  • Between Complete and Incomplete

    24. Between Complete and Incomplete

    Korean Movie - 2021

    9.0

My only complaint is that this makes me wish this was a miniseries with a few more episodes. The representation is just... chef's kiss.

Seriously. This was such an honest, knowledgeable, and respectful portrayal of Asexuality. Not everyone who identifies as Asexual has the same boundaries in a romantic and/or sexual relationship (Asexuality is a sexuality in itself but also an umbrella term, just something to keep in mind). Some are comfortable with some physical contact while others find it completely revolting, some are okay with sexual acts and/or occasional sex while others aren't, and some may want to try something outside of their comfort zone/experiment while others don't. It is a spectrum.

I don't want to spoil it, which unfortunately means I can't mention what his partners' thoughts were. Just trust me when I say that this short film is worth your time.

    Maybe here?

There is a level of understanding to be given to those who have wronged you. And then there is understanding that you did nothing wrong.

When we've struggled because we've been blamed, misunderstood, ignored, and hurt, how comforting would it have been to have heard: You did nothing wrong. They are the ones who are wrong.

  • Night Flight

    26. Night Flight

    Korean Movie - 2014

    8.5

I'm struggling on where to place it on this list, so I'm just going to put it here (at least for now).

You know when it feels like things are maybe going okay or are actually somewhat good and then reality splashes you in the face with a bucket of freezing cold water and then punches you a few times for good measure just to make sure you felt it? That's this movie.

Well-done, sadly realistic, and impactful. But, did it have to hurt so fucking bad?

It's not a movie to sit back and enjoy but more a movie to either educate yourself, make you cry, and/or shed light on the harshness that someone else is likely experiencing/has experienced just because they existed.

Surprisingly the limited dialogue made it much more interesting. They were able to play more with tone, spacing, and atmosphere. It was also very interesting to see how the 3 different couples' actors changed up the lines in small, but subtly beautiful ways. This has to be the best short film I have seen in years.

  • Mind.

    38. Mind.

    Korean Movie - 2017

    8.0

I have a theory about some of the scenes in this short film. But, unfortunately that would involve major spoilers so I can't say it.

I will say that the actor perfectly manages to convey the feelings of longing, emptiness, and lingering hope that come as a result of being separated from the person you loved and continue to love despite them leaving you.

Some of the reviewers mentioned the silence and quiet moments being effective. And, I definitely agree. Also, the transitions are very well done.

It's a very high quality short film.

    39. Drama Special Season 4: Come To Me Like A Star

    Korean Special - 2013, 1 episode

    8.0

Very pleasant (but also not), real, and emotional. I realized now after I finished this that I had seen it before. It had been so long that I had forgotten though.

The acting was great, the soundtrack fit very nicely, and the style this movie was done in--while it does date it--gives it its charm.

For the most part I rooted for their relationship, in many instances they brought a small smile to each others faces when it seemed impossible. One scene showed some cruelty from both of them, but it appears later to have just been a moment of weakness, frustration, and a lapse in judgement.

While not as good, the general relatability and pleasantness of it reminded me very much of the classic masterpieces, in my opinion, that is While You Were Sleeping (the American movie).

It was cringey but moving. I was worried this movie would leave me with a pit in my stomach, luckily that was not the case. It was hopeful.

I would say the main theme of this movie is authenticity. Don't feel guilty or sorry for wearing rainbow attire, laughing or speaking in a high-pitched tone, or making raunchy jokes. Be yourself. Hell, be obnoxiously out and proud!

My only real criticism is that I just wish we had gotten more of the Lesbian couple.

More could have been done with this, but I was happy with what we got.

    It felt understandable and believable.

    Probably between a 6.5/10 and a 7/10.

This was an interesting watch. Unfortunately, I feel like some things might have went over my head.

I was engaged the whole way through though and, by the end, I didn't feel like I just watched a short film.

I swear, I think I saw this randomly a couple years ago. I didn't really remember it though.

I don't know how to feel about this, and I don't mean that in a bad way. I just think I might need to rewatch it again and pay more attention, because I think I'm missing something here.

I will say that it is very well-acted, the tension builds very well, and it is nicely-shot and paced.

If ever there was a FL that was Easily Bisexual, it would be this one. Just... good job there :) Seriously, thank you everyone who contributed to this movie.

Otherwise, it was amusing enough and the FL was odd and funny.

    Korean Special - 2011, 1 episode

    7.5

Think I'll put it here for now

Here's the thing, having a drama special be entirely about Lesbians is great. And the fact that this came out in 2011 at that (though it did get pulled) is something.

However, a big however, is that this just had to subtly dig at Bisexual women. Like, come on. If you're making a special that will be representing one part of the LGBT+ community, how about you don't drag down another part of that community in the process.

I have seen this before. I'm not sure what to rate it though.

It wasn't bad or anything. I just don't quite understand everything about it, and that may be on me.

It was well-shot and acted, had nice background music, and left me wanting to investigate the film more.

What a sweet concept. I only wish it was just a little bit longer, if only by 3 minutes or so.

Also, it was very well shot and the colors really pop.

What Exactly happened here? I'm still a bit confused. Is the lesbian tag accurate? I don't think so... But, maybe I just didn't get it?

It had a unique concept, was stylistically different and interesting, and had some legitimate twists.

Still, I would be lying if I said I knew the full story.

The effects were nice and I think they made a good decision to keep it in black and white. The ending seemed to show his boyfriend still lingering in his mind/heart and I liked the way they showed that.
