Kang Joo Won, known professionally as The Ray (stylized as THEЯAY since 2018), is a South Korean R&B singer, producer and professor. He graduated from Seoul Life Science High School and later attended Dong-Ah University of Media and Arts but dropped out of the Applied Music program. He later obtained a bachelor's degree in Applied Music from Seoul Institute of the Arts and a master's degree in Popular Music from Dankook University. He made his debut in 2006 with the album "THEЯAY's Rainbow" and appeared in Yoon Do-hyun's "Love Letter" as a special super rookie. After his 1st album, he built his career by releasing digital singles and project group albums. He released his 2nd full album in 2019, held a solo concert and opened his Youtube channel later that year. He joined the hip hop crew W.E.N.S. in 2020, he is the leader of the gospel choir "Rejoice" and he is a music professor at Dong-Ah University. He began exploring other genres and entered singing competitions like "Sing Again" and "Mr. Trot 2" and he joined his current agency, One Way Out, in 2022.
