He made his debut in 1994 when singer and producer Kim Beom Ryong decided to form a duo after seeing him and Kwon Seon Kook perform in separate underground clubs. The pair debuted with the single "I'll Love You" and quickly gathered the attention of music experts.
They experienced a lot of popularity in the mid-90s but, in 1997, musical and personal differences between him and Kwon were become unmanageable. Kwon decided to leave after their third album and became a soloist.
He continued promoting alone under the name GREEN ZONE until 2006 when Kwon returned for their sixth album. However, their arguments were just too big and they decided to disband right after promotions concluded.
In 2009, he invited a series of guest vocalists and released more material under the band's name. In 2016, he reunited with Kwon for an episode of "Two Yoo Project Sugar Man Season 1" and they also appeared together in an episode of "Immortal Songs" in 2024, hinting at a possible comeback after several years of inactivity.
