After two years of work, he became a freelance writer. He debuted as a screenwriter through TBS's 1978 drama "Kometto-san". In 1988, he won the 7th Mukoda Kuniko Award for "Tonbo" and "Usagi no Kyujitsu". In 1989, he debuted as a film director with "Orugoru". He has written all the work that he has directed. He participated as one of the screenwriters for Yamada Yoji's "Kofuku no Kiiroi Hankachi".
Since May 6, 2006, he has served as the first chairman of the "Shonai Rice Fan Club" that supports the Shonai Plain rice following the filming of his movie "Semishigure". Since July 2011, he has participated in the writing of the script for Mito Komon.
Following the Great East Japan Earthquake in March of 2011, he moved to Toyota City in Aichi Prefecture.
He died on March 25, 2023, in his home in Urayasu City, Chiba Prefecture, at the age of 76 due to multiple organ failure. Edit Biography
