Episode 3 This Show is still going strong:

I am enjoying the pacing and the expanding on all the characters stories. There are so many different personalities and they all fit well as an overall cast.

I like how Mo Yeon is being portrayed here. She's gotten cynical with losing out because she doesn't have the clout of family and wealth. She's decided that since she cannot beat them she'll join them by playing along with the politics but she still has that raw independence that made her start down this path of hard work. She wants to win despite it all.

Si Jin is the same as ever. He's still infatuated with her and unable to handle her gruff exterior. He seems torn because he can see deep within her the true person she is and she is much like him in personality. It hurts him to see her give in and seeming to give up but he's not fully given up on her either way.

Interesting Love Quadrangle explained in this episode. Not sure I like the dynamic here. Funny how the 2 main couples are similar in opposing ways: i.e. Mo Yeon is poor/Si Jin is rich; Myung Ju is rich/Dae Yeong is poor. Sad that the dad want Si Jin since he's not the type to beg and curtsy... He fits with Mo Yeon because I see how similarly they process their emotions.

I enjoy how Mo Yeon and Si Jin are very human in this episode. If I was Mo Yeon, I'd have told him to move over so I can get a good view of the studs as well. His reaction is right on point as well. They haven't seen each other in 9 months, yet the attraction is still there. They've already tried this and she felt as if he didn't fit her lifestyle and he feels like she didn't give him a chance considering how she's not saving lives like before and merely a Camera Princess now. They're still feeling each other out but you can see that the attraction is pretty strong to make it difficult to set it aside.

The ending is pretty overly dramatic. Makes me uneasy as to the direction the next episode will take. The previews don't help either. I don't see how they get back to normal from here on out, so it feels like the romance stuff might be set aside for a while. Which is fine. It's a military drama anyway so the context is more serious even if there are lighthearted and comedic moments. At least up until now, there is a healthy balance between it all... including when he teases her about landmines, which is comedic... but she takes it serious and cries, which, in all honesty, is the appropriate reaction to that kind of cruel joke. What I'm saying is, for now, it all works well.

It's still good even with the overacting

I have to say that this episode dragged out a bit for me. I didn't really like the overacting on making the earthquake seem really bad. You didn't need to go there for the viewers to understand the situation. All the medical team standing over one dead man to discuss the concept of emergency rescue life saving was a waste of precious time. In these situations, no one has time to have a philosophy lesson. Get busy and get to work. There are 1,000s there, you don't even have time to think about taking it all in.

The bromance was off the charts in this episode. Actually the 2 couples and their interactions amongst each other is just really, really good. I like it when the women go at it, the dudes hang out, and they have their down time with the women they love.

In this episode, we see that "absence makes the heart grow fonder", which really solidifies that this is an epic love because otherwise it would be "out of sight out of mind". When you realize that you're gonna love the person whether they are by your side or not, then it takes away all your defenses. Now, not loving the guy because you don't get to spend time with him means less. This is when you just wish to savor every second and moment you have with this person and fully understand "life is too short to let the sweet moments pass you by". I'm really glad that she's finally realized this fact. As for Si Jin, he never, never, ever changes. He loves her. He knows it. He admits it. He respects her. He lets her go. It still doesn't stop him from caring, and it never will. He doesn't work that way. He's dedicated, loyal, persistent, and committed. That's just the kind of "good guy" he is and one you realize you shouldn't let go. Men aren't made this way as much anymore.

I think Myung Ju's dad is coming around. If he isn't and it's just my imagination, he should. There would be no better, more committed man to turn his daughter over to by Dae Yeong. PERIOD. He would also get the added benefit of having a son-in-law completely respectful of you as a father and your status. The only conflict he would ever have are the ones he creates for himself. Dae Yeong would 100% always respect his father-in-law and his position.

Looks like next week will be a whole lot more over dramatization, but at least I'm certain of one thing, and one thing only, Yoo Si Jin won't die. You can be sure of that one!

Ep. 4: We just keep rolling a long....

This episode was filled with such ups and downs. I still love how straight forward these two are here.

...and let's all give props to the 2nd leads love story. That one is as epic as the main's and they were the ones who had me giggling and crying throughout this episode.

Let's be honest here, other than the foreign actors, everyone is doing such a great job. But I have to say, with all the $$$ being thrown around here, couldn't they get legit quality foreign actors for these parts??? Heck, hire me and fly me over. I'd do a kickass job compared to these fools! I got an Intl Bus BS degree with a minor in Finance... but I still managed to get the part of Elvira in my University's production of the play Blithe Spirit. You don't need a full fledged actor to have someone do the job decently. Come on, folks!

Anyway....

All I can say is... THE KISS... I knew when he got back that this was were that scene was gonna come in, thanks for all those trailers, 1/8th of every episode I have little ability to predict. I'm not complaining because I like the fact that skinship happened at this point. It was truly right on cue. Mo Yeon & Si Jin are both just having an emotional crisis, but Si Jin is the first to fully lose control. It's hard to constantly rein in all this emotional energy flying about and in that lighthearted down time, and all her flirty talk, it was just the right move. I'm not even gonna blame him for it and, GOD, I hope when ep. 5 comes out she doesn't slap him for it in the end. .... I'm just gonna expect that confession scene.

Lastly, I just want to say that SJK's voice is all sorts of manly. I think it's the thing that floors me about him. Joking or serious, he just exudes manliness with that deep gutteral tone. If I ever had the opportunity to meet him, I'd hand him a book like War & Peace or Shogun and say, "just read for me, will ya?" .... that's it.... Just read. lol.... He should seriously consider doing Books on Tape for a side career. I'm sure he'd have a major fanbase.

Looks Can Be Deceiving

Wuxian wants to keep his secret about why he prefers the flute to the sword from Wangji. It's so easy for him to deceive Jiang Cheng, because he never really cares to know more than what's on the surface anyway. He'll do whatever to just have the status quo and be on top. It's not easy to do that with Wangji because he saw the change before in the cave. Like Wen Qing, he's pretty sure he knows what's up.Wuxian's comments though.. How hard that must have been to hear for Wangji, especially while Jiang Cheng soaked it up after getting Wangji's help in the first place. That felt like one of those breakup conversations you see in J-Dramas where the person pretends to be an ass to end things out of perfect noble idiocy. Wuxian knows that Wangji's dogmatic. He can't follow those rules now, so it just wouldn't work as it stands. I cry for Wangji and his loneliness while he stoically pretends to be okay.

Episode 2: We're just getting started here:

Okay, I absolutely love the dynamic between the OTP. He loves to tease her because it's so easy to do since she's not high maintenance but she still wants to impress in front of a guy she finds attractive. Their personalities not only match but are very similar in a unique way. The get each other right from the start.

These two are the most straightforward couple I've seen in a Korean Drama. It's totally refreshing. They aren't mincing words, either when they're in the positive zone or the negative zone. They speak what is on their minds from the start. No coyness about them. They admit they are attracted to each other and the approach each other to date. But just like in real life, things don't always work out according to expectations. They are both living extremely busy lives and they both have a major commitment to their work and lifestyle. If that doesn't match, the attraction in and of itself is not enough to sustain the relationship. They are well aware of that. He's more willing to give it a go. She's not risking her heart pining away waiting for a phone call that isn't gonna happen. He's obviously been through this before, because he accepts her feelings and they both let it go. It's such a mature approach to a first meeting and departing. I really like how this played out. Very realistic from my point of view.

There are a lot of adorable moments in this episode but my favorite is when they are at the movie theater flirting with each other. In the process he queries about her not using honorifics and asks if it's because she's older than him. Finally she sees her opportunity to tease him back and calls him "Oppa". SJK's expression on hearing this is absolutely priceless. He loves the idea of her calling him "Oppa". Then she crushes him by saying, "I'm just joking. I'm your Noona." LMAO! He is so heartbroken at the thought of calling her, "Noona" and never hearing "Oppa" again that he refuses to believe she's older than him. It's just the cutest, and simplest adorable exchange that captures both their personalities. They really are all kinds of compatible in this drama. Sorry folks, I'm not seeing her being anything but as adorable and flirty as he is... I mean when she's talking about the "back lighting" and all. How much more flirty and adorable can you get. Yet, before that when he first walks into her house he and she show this little bit of awkwardness that's so appropriate for coming over to the home of someone you want to date for the first time. All of it is just so on point.

Arrogance

The arrogance and pride of the leaders of every clan, including Jiang Cheng is so distasteful to me. They act like they're pious, and understand right from wrong, YET, when the shoe is on the other foot, they act just like the very evil clan they say they fight against. No, I don't give Xi Chen a pass because he has a sweet and calm demeanor. I don't give any of them a pass when they treat ANY human being like a dog, and allow people to spit out class distinction insults while pretending to look at everyone as equals. Letting any evil slide because of someone's "SUPERIOR" status, "HEIRARCHY", or "RESPECTING ELDERS" are just as evil. There's absolutely no excuse for it and anyone who stands in the bleacher, or on the sidelines and lets it just happen, is equally as guilty of either complicity or aiding & abetting. There's a reason there are laws against it in an open, constitutional republic that holds its citizens as equals.

Have we jumped the shark yet?

This is the first version where I feel like King's character can be a real threat to TenTen. In any other versions there is never a question of Taliw's character caring for anyone but TenTen. ...and the fight... Shocking emotions between these 2 that I've not seen either. It wasn't a bad representation but I did start to get the feeling that we have possibly Jumped the Shark at this point and there is clearly no perfect delineation between this and Itazura na Kiss.

Mike/Aom Couple

I don't know what it is about these 2 when they are together just alone on camera. The feeling is like a quiet, peaceful, meditative state. He gets quiet and she has a mellow calming demeanor. The vibe they give off and the way they look at each other is quite soothing as well. Frankly, when I watch these two, even though I know its reel, it feels the way a couple should feel when they are alone together, even when they argue. It's never too intense, but still passionate in its way. Yet, they are so comfortable together it's so relaxing to watch.

The Truth Revealed

I still believe that Wangji had a hint in his mind something was up. The love and loyalty to trust and give Wuxian the benefit of the doubt all these years is immense. Having everything confirmed so explicitly is definitely hard on his heart.Jiang Cheng's reaction to the truth is just more of why I'm not a fan of him and his personality. When Wuxian called him by his courtesy name along side Wangji, you knew he wouldn't let it slide. His pride & ego just wouldn't allow it. His ego got what it deserved, and in spades. Sit with that knowledge for your lifetime, dude! You did it to yourself!Wangji & Wuxian couple paying respects to mom, dad, & sister-in-law makes up for all the anger and tears you get watching this episode. I am just glad that Wangji was able to, with very few words, express his distaste and upset at Jiang Cheng for his words and attitude. When he slammed his sword on the ground, you know the JC had to have felt that from his gut all the way to Wuxian's core!

Dupes!

Zewu Jun is still a useful dupe but at least he's remaining openminded and I do have to give him credit for that.Wangji being by Wuxian's side no matter the cost really did put a sour expression on Jiang Cheng. Yeah, that's right dumbie, that should have been you, but it's not. Thankfully he didn't listen to you when you told him not to have Wangji as a friend. They both prove you wrong.#CoupleGoals!

Too Good

Wei Wu Xian is just too good!I loved watching him teaching his nephew how to handle people who bully him. Rulan is still an arrogant little shit but once everything is taken care of, he'll calm down with the teachings of Wangji & Wuxian.Let's not forget Wuxian playing with Wangji's headband again. These 2 are just too cute!

Gossip Again!

IIf everywhere in the land there were few people who gossiped, things would never get this out of hand.It only takes a couple of people to pass bad information, along with flattery, and topped with words to instigate doubt and fear, to set up the number of innocent people who have been crucified here. This is where Wangji shines so much! He's the ONLY one who believes his heart, eyes, and what he knows to be true despite all the backtalk. He is the only one who will take the licks in order to search for the truth. A righteous man, stubborn in what he knows to be right.

Bless Wen Qing

Wen Qing is the saddest, most miserable character in this entire drama, hands down!Xue Yang? Meng Yao? How are they more miserable? Their egos don't call for this kind of excuse making praise to cover for their inhumane acts!!Wen Qing gave everything to her brother, and did everything she could to keep herself and him untainted. So, many talk about Wen Ning being the saddest character, but that's not true! He received respect and love from quite a few people throughout his life. Who gave love and respect to Wen Qing? Jiang Cheng? In her entire life she only had Wei Wu Xian and Wen Ning! She spent it entirely taking care of one or the other, while sacrificing herself every step of the way! What was HER reward?...ground into dust...My tears cannot stop falling! This is definitely ugly crying!

Wangji Visits

Wuxian: "Who cares about the crowded, broad avenue? I'll stick to my single-log bridge until it's dark."The stark contrast between the visit to Demon Subdued Palace first by Jiang Cheng, and then by Wangji. My recollection after 8 months is fuzzy. This confirms that Wangji also is unaware of Wuxian's core, yet is still getting closer and closer to the truth. How Wangji treated Wuxian should have been done by his own brother. All these little things add up in my mind. Again, I still cannot forgive JC for his horrific disloyalty. It's comforting to know, emotionally, when he learns the truth, he'll suffer over it for a lifetime!!

Is There A Character To Like Here?

I'm gonna be honest, even pretty or good-looking doesn't make me even want to like or understand any of the characters here. The whole setup is loathsome and irritating. If it wasn't for the few 30 second cute scenes from later episodes, I think I'd be dropping this here and moving on. I'm cringing watching this and want to FFWD but it's at the beginning so if I do that, I won't understand a damn thing that's going on... so I'm actually playing games of HearthStone in the background, since of have dual monitors just to get through this and praying it does actually get better and the short cute scenes are worth running through the rest of this crap. Right now, there isn't ONE character, not ONE that I even like at all for any reason, nor am I sympathetic or empathetic, although Hwan Ki's character is probably the one I feel the most sorry for...because of his father...but his weaknesses are so annoying, I just want to send him to a small island so he can be with himself and calm the f down. *sigh*
