I mostly enjoyed watching this drama. As an adult is was nice to see more mature storylines, eg. the main couple sleeping together before marriage as a normal part of the relationship. This series was a rare find in that aspect that I was actually interested also in all side couples and their storylines. The first 20 episodes were also a bit painful to watch because of the problems the main characters had in their relationship and second male lead causing trouble, so I was all the time fearfully waiting when it would backfire. However the same episodes also contained the best, very very good romantic scenes, so I wouldn’t miss them. Especially as the main lead was probably the hottest Chinese actor I’ve ever seen. The second half of the series was lighter and funnier.

I was happy with the actor’s performance, though I have to say even though the main lead was perfect in romantic scenes, he was not convincing when acting drunk. I have previously seen Zhang Yujian (He Canyang’s actor) in Coup The Foudre where he was very sombre and too old for the teenage parts, and I enjoyed very much seeing him in this role. All in all I think the people in this series were not as much stereotypes as in many Chinese dramas but more versatile and real. The production was also well done, there wasn’t too much repetition or unrealistic scenes. Some scenes were really funny and even though this is not a comedy, the humour fitted it very well.

SPOILERS START HERE

Canyang and Minmin were a cute couple, but I wish they would have made Canyang’s feelings for Minmin more clear. Now it felt like he was with her just because she was around, in which case he could have just as well been with someone who his parents don’t oppose.

I agree with the other reviews that the ending felt a bit rushed. It would have been nice to see He Fanxing and Yuan Song get back together earlier and see some scenes with their everyday life as a couple out in the open, with parents and friends.

It was nice that the fact that Yuan Song was from a rich family was not emphasized too much, and He Fanxing said that she hadn’t thought too much about it because it didn’t matter to him. I might have liked it better id he would have been from a normal family, but maybe the writers wanted it to be all about the age gap so Yuan Song couldn’t be inferior to Ye Luming in any other way.

I was a bit confused about the girl who came in the end, Luo something. Was she sent there by Yuan Song’s parents to seduce him or was it a coincidence? The way she behaved and the way the parents kept asking about her and Yuan Song made me think it was not that simple. In the story the reason for her existence was of course to make He Fanxing jealous and to show that Yuan Song didn’t care about anyone else, but as almost every other piece in this drama fell together and was realistic, this on bothered me.

The storyline with cheating and divorce was good. What she said about not being able to forget the words he had used to ridicule her were spot on.

This was not one of my favourite dramas but it kept me hooked and I will probably watch it again at some point.
