Kdrama fan from Michigan, USA. I love all the romance and tropes. It's like watching fanfiction. You can find also me on Twitter where I'm a lot more chatty: https://twitter.com/kdramawatching
Q&A
How did you get into Kdramas?
I saw a gif someone had made of Park Bo Gum and Kim Yoo Jung from Moonlight Drawn By Clouds/Love in the Moonlight and I thought, 'Interesting hats, gorgeous costumes, what is this magic?'
When did you start watching Kdramas?
February or March of 2017? I subscribed to Dramafever in March, so a few weeks before that. Yes, I'm a relative newb. :)
Which Kdramas are your Faves?
Hands down, Reply 1988 is my absolute favorite drama so far. I have a feeling it will take a while supplant it. No surprise, it has Park Bo Gum in it, but it was the entire ensemble cast and the slice of life story that kept me hooked during the insanely long episodes until it ended. I cried when it was done, not because of the story, but because I would no longer be spending time with all these amazing characters.
My next fave, a close second and all time favorite time-slip drama is Live Up To Your Name with the amazingly talented Kim Nam Gil and Kim Ah Joong, whose onscreen chemistry grows slowly over the course of the 16 episodes until it absolutely sizzles. By the time they kiss in episode 12, you wonder if you haven't watched two people fall in love for real. This story is simply too beautiful for words.
There is a long list of others that I love which you can check out, but some honorable mentions are Coffee Prince, Jealousy Incarnate, Fight For My Way, Healer and Pinnochio.
How do you rate your Kdramas?
I have this really complicated rating system that involves scoring 12 different criteria based on a percentage, each weighted according to impact, and then I divide by 35 and multiply by 17 and... nah, none of that! I just go with my gut and how the drama made me feel at the time of watching. It's highly subjective and could change depending on my mood or the color of the shirt I'm wearing that day. :)
Who is your Bias?
I've already mentioned Park Bo Gum, but it's no lie that this kid is a scene stealer. He is amazing at showing a range of emotions with just a few subtle expressions. He also seems to be picky about the projects he takes on, which isn't a bad thing, and he's about as goody-two-shoes as they come. Everyone has nothing but good things to say about Bogummy-you can't help but fall for his absolute charm.
Then there is Lee Joon Gi, and what's not to love about him? He definitely has this weird charisma about him, particularly when he's wearing a hanbok, that makes you ignore everything else on screen. I wouldn't say he's been in the best dramas ever, but that doesn't matter, because I'd watch him in anything (except for Criminal Minds, but we won't go there will we).
For the ladies, I'm always drawn in by Gong Hyo Jin, who just has such a natural beauty and a wonderful range as an actress. I feel confident watching her dramas that they'll be a treat. And then I might have a secret crush on Kim Mi Kyung who can't help but be excellent no matter what the role. I will literally watch anything she's in, she is that awesome.
