Fun but not scary
Not very scary but fun found footage, the first in a long series of movies that I'm excited to go through. I like how amateurish the characters and movie in general feels. Decently made despite its obvious low budget and leans into the low budget to add to the amateurness. I trust Shiraishi to make good stuff so I'm sure this series is gonna evolve. Was this review helpful to you?
Shiraishi-san needs some professional help... this movie is definitely not sweet.
If this really was actually all one take that is seriously impressive. Everyone needs to be congratulated for that, the actors and Shiraishi (being the cameraman) especially. The start is great and the ending is fantastic, however the stretch between it was a tough watch, and kind of devolves into a mess of sex and violence in a way that reminded me of Sono's Cold Fish and also disturbed me in the same way, I am not one to seek out or enjoy disturbing movies. I would not recommend this (or Cold Fish for that matter) to people for this reason.
I really did like the ending a lot though and it almost makes up for how I feel about the events prior. Almost.
I much prefer Occult overall. Also, this appears to be connected to Senritsu Kaiki File Kowasugi??? Poor Tashiro, he can never catch a break.

More than it looks at the start, but not an action movie
If you are watching this for the action, this movie will be lackluster. The first 45 minutes or so play out like a decent but formulaic action movie but evolves into a slow-paced search for meaning in a seemingly meaningless world which culminates chillingly into one of my favourite and most memorable movie scenes I've seen recently. That scene and the ones directly leading up to it for me are perfect, but my score is lowered by a stylish but generic opening and an overly melodramatic ending which was good but not as good as the previous scenes.

A perfect beginner found footage movie
Creepy found footage movie with a well done and engaging mystery which unfolds at a perfect pace with the perfect amount of information being revealed at each opportunity. The visuals are very nice and all the actors performed well in their roles.
The last few scenes are fantastic. If you think the movie looks interesting, I recommend, but don't go in expecting something very fast and scare-heavy, it is more creepy and tense and the movie is fairly slow but I never found it boring.

Fun and fresh movie that is more than it seems
Very fun and clever, a very nice surprise and an easily recommendable feel-good watch. The start was slow, some people seem to hate it but I didn't really mind it, and it is made ten times better by the ending. This goes in many directions I did not expect but I had a great time and going in blind is a good idea. Definitely something I'd like to rewatch.
A ton of fun with a ton of heart, 100% recommended.

Looking back, maybe my favourite movie of all time
Really well written and thoughtful movie which despite feeling long is well paced and no minute is wasted. Maybe my favourite from Sono I've watched so far. Basically no overdone shock value which is appreciated and feels like his most mature movie. Feels like he's holding back a little.Very interesting characters and really interesting thematically probably the richest themes and the most thoughtful thing I've seen from Sono so far which is saying a lot. Really interesting as well.

Really grew on me after I watched it
Very slow moving horror movie without many visual scares but with an overwhelming and creeping existential dread. Dark, depressing, and fatalistic, but oddly beautiful, building up to a very memorable climax and ending.Very natural acting, great camerawork, and a really effective soundtrack by Hair Stylistics. I don't know why more horror movies don't opt for music like this. Also if you are looking for it you can find a bootleg ost very easily online to listen to.
Not for everybody, it is very slow moving, but if you are the kind of person who would enjoy a movie like this, you would get a lot out of it, and I would recommend.

I think it felt a bit pretentious and trying too hard to be artistic being needlessly slow at times with a pretty absent storyline.
Tadanobu Asano looks very cool and I'd still recommend the movie just for the visuals alone, it helps if you like noise though.

Beautifully made biopic, very artfully shot, probably one of the nicest looking movies compositionally I've seen. Beautiful musical score as well. Meaningful and fascinating, and I would wholeheartedly recommend but to get the most out of it I'd recommend being familiar with Mishima and Japanese history.
Watched this bc it's Kimsundo's favourite movie, ik you probably aren't reading this but thanks man for everything, and good luck in everything going forward, I hope to see you again someday.

Become erect... with your heart!
I feel like this is the kind of movie that could be considered a classicI mean it already is a cult classic but I think this movie is kind of timeless
This movie does not feel like 4 hours at all, and never gets dull
If somebody saw what I looked like watching the entire last hour and a half they'd think I'm insane
Very thematically rich while delivering one of the most ridiculous and engaging stories I've seen in a film so far and hitting emotional beats very effectively, also made me laugh a fair bit
Great characters, acting was realistic when it mattered and goofy when it needed to be
If you can find a four hour time slot and are up for some wild and sometimes disturbing stuff, I wholeheartedly recommend Love Exposure

It's Hell if I stay. Hell if I go. If both are Hell…
Absolutely beautiful and tragic movie, really unique visuals, and fantastic soundtrack. Great acting from Miki Nakatani especially as the titular Matsuko, who is probably one of my favourite movie characters. Very engaging and entertaining tragicomedy which balances the two opposing tones very well. Extremely sad but also beautiful.Nakashima is an amazing director. Having watched Kamikaze Girls and The World of Kanako now, I can say that Memories of Matsuko is my favourite of his (and probably one of my favourite movies period). I'd also say that he is one of my favourite directors, the way he incorporates music into his scenes is fantastic and burns both the scenes and the songs into your head.

A wild ride but unmistakably Nakashima
Interesting movie with great directing and editing (as usual for Nakashima) with a great cast and great visuals, however the story becomes really hard to follow towards the end. Interesting character writing and themes about family and childhood. The movie was not very subtle with its themes but they also somehow get buried under how batshit crazy the final act is. It probably makes sense to somebody but that somebody is not me. The general message and ending is clear but the majority of the events in the last act are just insane.

Interesting commentary on perversion and sexualisation in Japan from some girls chasing material but empty desires, and some men who are pathetic and lonely and others who are screwed in the head.

Lingers in your mind long after the end credits
Edit: I still find myself thinking about this a LOT. One of the most memorable movies I've ever seen, I can see myself still remembering this in decades. Probably the most impactful movie I've ever watched. It refuses to leave my mind, but I can't bring myself to give it 5 stars.A good movie with some really great moments bogged down by an overreliance on shock value which cheapens some scenes. Compared to some of Sono's other movies, I found that some of the shocking scenes didn't have as much artistic merit and it detracted from the experience.
Absolutely insane performances from everybody, the two leads being the standouts. Denden's Yukio Murata was well acted and terrifying but Kippei Shiina's Joe Murata was the better Murata imo. Mitsuru Fukikoshi's Shamoto was an interesting character and very well acted. Some scenes were genuinely chilling. The visuals were also nice in general and the soundtrack was also well used. The Skater's Waltz can be really scary (⓿_⓿).
Really uncomfortable and unnerving watch which I found more fucked than The Forest of Love. I think the reason I prefer The Forest of Love is because it was done with more sense and more tastefully, as tastefully as intense gore can be I guess. It felt like things had purpose and a meaning. I guess the point of this is it felt like it didn't have purpose or meaning. Interested to watch more Sono, he is an interesting director. If you can't stomach gore, absolutely do not watch this. This is definitely something that will linger with me for a long time.
