Both are historical films featuring intimate scenes between two people of the same gender. The acting is also amazing in both. Song Ji Hyo in Frozen Flower has strong presence.

Jeongnyeon the manwha was inspired by the handmaiden. Especially The main character was drawn to look like the main character in the handmaiden. The lead actor is in both. They are set in the same time. And both feature queer women.

Both are a lesbian romance. SPOILER WARNING! (The main characters end up falling in love even though they are both deceiving eachother. They both have a LOT of twists and some darker thriller/mystery elements. They both have a happy ending.) They are both based on novels. The novels are both very sexual.

Both are thrillers set in 1930s Korea that include LGBTQ main characters and a lot of the plot happening in an isolated location. imho 'Phantom' is more of an action thriller, while 'The Handmaiden' is more of a psychological thriller.

Period setting, high society, and sexual tension – The Handmaiden has them all. As for the homoerotica? Well, you might as well go full frontal.
