Awesome C-Drama

I absolutely love this drama, after watching TLTW-TMPB I didn’t think i would be able to love another male lead role the way i loved Mark Chao as Ye Hua. But have fallen hard for Ethan Ruan as Wuji in the Legend of Fuyao. He did an amazing job portraying his character as a charming, flirty, playful, and attractive prince...while also captivating his role as a serious, witty, and strategic Ruler. I love how he’s always so caring and protective of his love Fuyao. You can truly connect and feel their love for each other grows throughout their journey together. I personally think that Yang Mi’s connection with Ethan Ruan in this movie is better than her connection with Mark Chao in TMPB. Their chemistry is so imperishable in this drama, Yang Mi appears to be so much more comfortable in her role around Ethan than with Mark. Overall, this is a must watch drama...i have rewatched this drama twice and i would definitely rewatch it again when i have the time.

A ride through the five kingdoms!!

Meng Fuyao,a maid at Xuanyuan sect, accidentally meets Zhang Sun Wuji, the crown prince of five kingdoms, though she doesn't know his identity. Both of them pass through many ordeals, fight with the hurdles that come in their way, solve the problems of five countries under Wuji jurisdiction, wherein one country involves the birth secrets of Fuyao, and finally establish peace in the world.
Firstly,to start off,the beginning of the series may be a bit slow, but it all leads to the development of the plot thereafter.
The action scenes of Yang Mi were too good. She excelled in performing all the stunts with perfection. Her acting was also perfect. She is the perfect choice for the role of Fuyao.I liked how she portrayed various emotions almost flawlessly. She is of the main assets of this drama.
Ethan Ryan as Zhang Sun Wuji, the crown prince, was also good in his role.He is smart, cool, intelligent, decisive, flirty, supportive, patient, and sometimes aggressive too.All these are played by Ethan effortlessly.
Gao Weiguang was also good in his role and the way he handles his state affairs with the help of Wuji and Fuyao was nice.
I specially liked the first kingdom's story involving the Water Manipulation technique. It was too good for me.Also,i liked how both the protagonists solved the problems of the five nations that he governs as the crown prince.
The identity revelation arc of Fuyao was also nice.
The CGI, production, sets, costumes, screenplay, plot, cast all were good.
The drama also progressed at a stable pace though sometimes there may be some boring moments.
I will definitely recommend this drama to be given a chance to watch despite being 66 episodes long.

A very long journey.. with a very confusing ending

Started out as very complex story, sweet and fun even. Then it became a very long journey. But at around the middle part of the show, it's complexity turned into a very convoluted story with a very confusing ending.

One thing this show is not boring.. This one's packed with well written subplots. So we'll written that it made the development of the supporting characters lovable. I even like the relationship they had, they're the "Ride or Die" kind.. They'll never leave a friend in need.

Would I rewatch this? Maybe not for a long while.

[STORY]
The story isnt super alluring but the journey of how the story progresses is pretty good.
I didnt think that they would form a damn clique in the show. The story is not very special in the sense that i would give a huge talk about it though. It's like you kind of expect it but they twist it a little more
[ACTING]
oh my gosh i swear, once you reach the end you will know why i gave this full marks like yangmi is just mind blowing, ethan really can do any expressions and he has my friend falling head to heels for him. i love xiao qi 's acting too! i havent really seen him before and his acting is just so natural like he makes the character fit his real personality so well.
[MUSIC]
Havent really listened to it track by track but from what ive heard in the show, it sounds good!
[REWATCH]
Nah... 66 episodes is too long for me, i would rather read recaps that people have posted online/
[OVERALL]
Not bad, i came into this show knowing that every drama that yangmi has acted in as main role or second female lead is a good show. I really enjoyed ep 1-30, but the back like 57-66 ,i just started to lose interest D: but still worth to watch because quite alot of things unfold in that last few episodes. But my favourite station of all 5 is taiyuan!! which is also ep 1 to 30 ahaha. Give it a try during the lockdown, quite worth your time tbh. it keeps you on the edge of your seat. not gonna lie, i watch the show while reading recaps people have posted and i should probably quit that habit.. D:

This drama is totally mixture of good story ,bad story ,sad story ,someparts have disappointed ,someparts of drama have incomplete story....so according to my view towards the drama is that it starting is good ,then with each episode interest increases but story end with disappointment.
What I like about the drama the parallel love story , so emotionally but one incomplete love story ,the story of dr. And his brother ,their friend who was a girl ...that girl was paired with whom at the end ? Younger brother loves her but she loves elder brother and girl and elder brother end up at the end but what was next, their story was story of love, friendship or something else ?They didn't showed and what happened to his younger brother at the end ,did he wait for a girl or he accepted the truth that she never come back to him because he knew that she loves his brother ,they show liitle that he had tear on his eyes when they both were leaving him ...this story was little complicated . I like last part where some friends come together but for Few minutes and where they all gone and then both lead actor and actress end up with mystery ending that they really die or they got place in heaven .. they should shows that they lead actor win over evil and they attend Zhu Zhu's marriage where doctor also attend it with his girl friend and his brother also there with his love, so beautiful ending would it be..First time all love stories have the happy ending ......But nothing happened like this. But every one acting up to the mark ...I like everyone acting so emotional and touchy ..one more question .What happened to wuji's aunt's daughter ,was she die or alive ? So much incomplete stories in the drama...

Great watch

Great Introduction to the cast. .Felt like I was on an adventure with this drama . EPS 1-10.was great . FL is beautiful and strong.ML is very strong playful yet deadly.
In these Episode 10- 14 dragged abit...I didn't feel like it's the Legend of Fu Yau because she keep getting in trouble and needs help. She have no plan just anger that causes her to act without thinking that causes those who are around her to be hurt. At this point she is an accident waiting to happen and I find myself saying " o no" what kind of stupid move will she make again.
I keep wanting to see what the ML is up to because he is so smart.
Eps 14-30. This is the first drama where I feel anxious all the way through. I really don't know what will happen next due to the love ML have for the FL and due to her recklessness. Side note ,She is a great fighter but she always get caught. So the king is trying to save the country from the wicked ones and also have to keep her safe without being discovered.
The story line is so great to this point. I enjoyed every minute of it. It was hilarious, heart stopping and give you a feeling of sweet victory. The romantic scenes was like a beautiful dance between the ML and FL and I loved how he teased her endlessly...I have never seen that before. Great imagination from the writers. The next 30.eposide The drama get sad and bloodied . And the adventurs changed. The ML seems more reserved because he is totally in love. The fun fearless and brave ML is now reserved and seemed to be a bit less organized like before. The Fl is about to discover more about herself. . The ending was a bit hurriedly done but overall I love this drama. It's a rewarded for me. Beautiful set designs, awesome actors. Especially the very handsome ML Ethen Juan and beautiful FL Yang.

A lot of holes in the story, but I liked it anyway

The acting was great in this series. The ML & FL carried the whole thing! She was strong but not bossy and overbearing. He was just plain gorgeous, and his facial expressions were tender, amusing, wicked... that was fun to watch, but also heart-wrenching when he showed his anguish. I felt it too! The interaction between the characters was great - I love the ensemble acting, especially when there is chemistry there too.

Big letdown was the number of holes in the storylines. Too many to name them all, but the writers could have tied up and cleaned up much better than they did. Lazy? Or they just didn't care after a while. Whatever it was, they didn't do a good series any justice. We were left hanging for more than a couple of characters - and so many scenes were unnecessarily drawn out to waste time. And not enough Karma for the 'bad guys'.

The biggest letdown was that ending! What the hell was that about!? Dismal writing - they took a pretty good storyline and dumped it in the trash. Maybe the writers should have put a disclaimer so the viewers would know what they were thinking, instead of leaving us all out here making endings up. Shame on you!

Don't think I would watch it again - too many episodes for too little reward, and too many holes in the story!!! BUT - I am a fan of Yang Mi & Ethan Juan from now on!

This is my first MDL review, since this drama was long i felt attached after i finished it. I honesty was expecting smth to cause me to drop since my mom kept telling me the story lost purpose so she dropped it, but I pulled through!

STORY:
If you wanna know what to expect and how the story progresses, then read this.
Taiyuan arc was probably the longest and least questionable arc. Fuyao and Wuji first meet in Xuanyuan Sect, and surprise the male lead falls in love first! She gets caught up in a love triangle between her, eldest senior brother, and Peiyuan who likes eldest senior brother. Wuji always comes through and saves her when she’s schemed against by Peiyuan. Wuji was very playful in this arc while pretending to be the heir apparent of Taiyuan, it was really cute how he interacted with fuyao. They both end up meeting in the imperial palace later, with plots involving the prime minister. That’s when they both really started showing they liked each other. But the go separate ways in the end.

Tianquan arc was kinda short, basically Fuyao gets caught in another scheme due to Folian who likes Wuji and she finds out his real identity. She also gets into trouble with Wuji’s royal brother (a nasty snake i tell you). I feel like after the whole Folian incident she forgave Wuji a bit too easily considering she thought he liked someone else..

Tiansha arc creeps in as Fuyao leaves Tianquan and ends up becoming the ‘mayor’ of this desert city, another short section of the story. I kinda found that part of the story out of place, but it did show character growth and a lot of romance. It also focuses on the side characters, and how Fuyao’s group of friends end up helping Zhan Beiye who is plotted against by his two royal brothers. This arc was just a bit sadder than other arcs regarding the romance factor.

Xuanji arc is almost as short as Tianquan arc, with one rain scene I found a bit questionable lol. The key to this arc is Fuyao’s real background, though it was pretty predictable as the drama went on. What’s interesting is that Xuanji kingdom is run by females.

The ending arc was really rushed and finally goes into detail about Fuyao’s curses. This is probably the most lacking part of the drama as it was so rushed, and then the finale really made me go what the heck because of one character’s sad end (some of u will know who i’m talking about) and the final ending slammed in.

ACTING:
The acting was great, each character played their part well. Yangmi and Ethan had great chemistry, and honestly I wasn’t sure if I was gonna like Ethan (another one of my mom’s reasons for dropping, bc she thought he wasn’t handsome..sigh) but he grew on me~ I fell in love with his smile, and his portrayal of helplessness in the last arc was so impacting it made me cry. Yangmi and Ethan both did well portraying playful/mischievous characters at the beginning to more serious and powerful figures at the end.
Weiguang did a great job as Zhan Beiye, a dashing general who cares deeply for his people. I almost screamed when he made his first appearance bc he was so handsome riding his horse and in armor hehe.
Lai Yi also did wonderfully as the Heavenly doctor, someone who went through hell and had a lot of hatred as someone who sought revenge. I didn’t give him much attention in Three miles of Peach Blossoms, but this time his role carried a lot more weight in the drama. I look forward to seeing him in more dramas :)
Liu Yijin who played Qizhen the prime minister also did a great job of being a villain. I had also seen him shortly as a evil man in Lost Love in Times, though he didn’t have so much screen time. Anyways, he’s great at acting as a villain lolol.

MUSIC:
To be honest I barely noticed the OSTs except for two songs, one being "A Love is Hard to Wish For” sung by Lala Hsu.It was great for emotional scenes in the drama, and Lala Hsu is a great singer (I love her other songs). The other song is “Window” also an emotional song with beautiful lyrics.

REWATCH & OVERALL:
I only scored lower for rewatch because i’m not the type to rewatch dramas since I don’t even have enough time to watch new ones ;-; Also, if you really wanna go through 66 episodes again then go ahead - skipping is the key lol. Though it was indeed long, that’s also what caused me to feel so attached. I felt like I was traveling with Fuyao and her companions across the 5 kingdoms and facing adventures with them. The main characters also brought out themes highlighting the human heart. After finishing it, i really felt at a loss for what to watch next bc I was still having post-drama side effects.

This was my first Chinese drama, and it was a great starter. I've watched it (don't shame me pls) 3.5 times in total (1st watch, 2nd rewatch by myself, 3rd - incomplete - just for couple moments, and 4th with some people who hadn't watched it). Overall, it's truly worth a watch just because of the main pairing!
Story
The story has several arcs. The first few up till the 40s are really exciting and fast paced, but I found that it started to drag after that. However, the story picks up at the end and is pretty satisfying (for a Cdrama). It's, in essence, a love story, and it's the best love story I've seen. The progression of the main couple's relationship is very clear and natural. They don't just fall in love all of a sudden for a stupid reason, but instead slowly fall for each other through their experiences together. Their flirtatiousness in the beginning and their dedication for each other towards the end is truly the highlight of the story.
Acting/Cast
The two main actors were amazing here! Their chemistry was ummm...explosive. I think the whole cast did an amazing job worked really well together. Though the younger ones could improve, they all did their best and I was pretty satisfied with the acting overall.
Overall
The cinematography and the OST work really well together, the production looks really high budget, and the costumes are amazing. This show had some of the most artistic fighting choreo (I think it's the same as princess agents). It's pretty visually pleasing sometimes! I highly recommend this show especially if you're pretty new to dramas. If anything, just watch for the OTP!

If you like historical dramas, then You must watch this series.

This is my 2nd fav. Series . This is the only series in which I cried more than 3 times ,this is the best series I have ever seen. I must say this is the best series , amazing. story , plots ,scheme, every this have it's meaning..which connects every thing together. But at last it's bet mix or not cleared. It should had been more clear .
All the characters played very well , but some characters which died should not be killed, there should be turned in any other mean but, btw, every turning point is very touching..
In ep 39 or 40 I literally cried like hell . In this ep. There was really touching sense, and that dialogue I loved it..(the people who I .....) I don't spoil . Or and I liked that poem written by wuji..

One of the better fantasy Chinese dramas out there

LIKE

How the story unfolds with Fu Yao and Wu Ji travel together across five kingdoms. I especially loved those events happening at Tai Yuan, Tian Sha and Xuan Ji.

One scene that touched me was when Xuan Yuan Xiao asked Wu Ji about Zhang Sun Jia.

DISLIKE

The draggy ending that was too tiring to watch.

MUSIC - my personal fav

Yi Ai Nan Qiu 一爱难求 - Lala Hsu 徐佳莹
Fan Hua Meng 繁華夢 - Isabelle Huang 黃齡

REWATCH VALUE

Had re-watched once but only up till right before ending as I couldn't bring myself to go through the agony again.
