Shortened Summary … For those who dropped this!

For those who think it's long to read a review.

This season is based on the second book from the 9 book series. The underwater tomb is accurately portrayed at most of the parts in the series as shown in the book.
But to warn you, the book and the underwater tomb which is supposedly the important part of the story is over before EP10.
They also show the bronze tree of death kinda similar to the book.

The rest of the story in the series is given to show the build-up of the relationship between characters and Wu Xie acquiring the second snake brow copper fish.
the may seem unnecessary to many but due to lack of screen content the progress of the friendship and trust between Wu Xie and Xie Yu Chen.

And lastly, the introduction and back story of Ah Ning's boss, Hendery.

There is actually a hint towards the end that directs or indicates to us that the immortality thing is all fake... I guess that's what they tried to show. And the Zhang family is trying to protect a larger secret behind it, in this case, the snake brow copper fish.

But one thing, I did not seem to understand is the wrong portrayal of his Third uncle. And despite his portrayal and resentment possed by others towards him, Wu Xie's faith in him does not seem to change.
I'm not saying cause I hate it or something but cause in the books he too seems to curse his uncle but not give up his search for him.

Also, I recommend not watching after EP35 cause it will end abruptly and you won't understand unless you read book 4.

That's all.
TO those Daomu Biji fans, let's support them!

Woudn't reccomend the last 5 episodes

Overall, this drama was a great ride. Tons of fun to watch and follow along with Wu Xie. There are a few pacing issues and more flashbacks then necessary in my opinion. If they had kept the pacing a little more tight, they probably would have been able to finish adapting book 4.

The flashback to the republic era with Zhang Buxun confused me a lot, but he ended up being probably my favorite character in the whole drama. Massive kudos to Chen Yi for his portrayal of a surprisingly complex character with some very intense relationships with other characters. I kind of wish it had been its own stand alone work as either a movie or short drama.

Neo Huo and Zhang Buyu were hilarious together. scenes with the two of them being complete clowns were some of the most enjoyable. I wish they had been able to have more scenes of the whole iron triangle together, but I'm pretty sure that wasn't in the original novels so I won't hold it against the show.

The music was ok for the most part, but the one bmg track with the random bat sounds started really annoying me, especially when it was played in above ground places that definitely didn't have bats. It was also played a lot to try and make certain scenes more emotional and it just stopped working for me at the very end. Probably not a universal problem that everyone would have, but it was something that bothered me.

The last 5 episodes devolved into a disjointed mess of scenes and actions that made so little sense to me I wish I hadn't watched it at all.

Gets better with each episode

Of all the adaptatios, this one has the best looking cast overall. Of course the acting was as good too. The 1st few episodes needs a bit effort to get through, but then it hooks you in all the way to the last episode. This Wu Xie is clever, decisive, does most on his own and does not need much saving. It has all the mysteries and actions that is expected in a DMBZ adaption.
Fatty was really so hilIarious in some scenes that O had to literally pause to laugh out loud for next 5 ninutes. It was a good watch. But I will probably not watch it again. And that cliffhanger at the end... !!!!

Better, but still rough.

Finally got through this, and I won't lie... I almost quit a few times.

It did everything it needed to do after such an awful first season. This includes 1) Getting a more memorable cast, 2) Upping the production quality (by A LOT) and 3) Getting a competent director. The sets really are astounding when you compare them to the first season, so I don't even know how they pulled this off. And the music actually fits for the most part, so post-production members actually cared this time.

The story, while also better, is still quite a bit of a slog. It's convoluted and confusing at times, sometimes on its own and sometimes because it's just THAT boring that you miss something crucial. The whole thing just feels very aimless and stupid. This could very easily have been 20 episodes, given how often you're just watching characters walk long distances.

I have to compare this season more to a CW show in America. It is very intentionally aimed at teens, but the humor misses the mark and hits to an even younger demographic. That only adds to the inconsistency of the overall tone, which is kind of all over the place. I still don't even know what to make of what I just saw. I'm a total sucker for these Tomb Raider shows, but if I weren't I'd definitely be giving it an even lower score and would not be planning to continue on to the next chronological season. I still might not, we'll have to see.

All in all, while it's a mess of a show and a bit hard to get through all 40 episodes, it's such a massive improvement over the show that came before it that I have to at least appreciate that. Maybe it will keep getting better as it goes?

Loved it!!!!!!

Started watching it because of Cheng yi, but no way it was mind blowing. You will be lost in Lost tomb tomb series. Neo hou also attracted my attention from here. Now two of the favourites what more can I ask for... Started from here and then continuously completed all the grave robbers series. Just loved all of these.
Must say hou ming hau played the best of all the wu xie in series. I always go back and rewatch if bored and find nothing new to watch. Love this trio. Cheng yi looks always handsome while doing stunts.

An amazing tomb raiding show with suspense and slight horror

Actually, I had done this drama last year while waiting for Neo Hou's new work which is 'Back from the Brink'. To my surprise, Cheng Yi also starred this drama, and I couldn't help but to get excited because two of my favorite actors actually collaborated together. Alright, I'll get straight to the plot and here we go...

The Lost Tomb 2 is the continuation of the previous story (The Lost Tomb) about Wu Xie and his group of tomb raiders. If I'm not mistaken, in previous one, they ventured through Seven Star King Lu Palace and found an artifact known as the Snake Eye Copper Fish. In this story, they went into a new adventure to the Underwater Tomb of Paracel Island to retrieve another Copper Fish. Aside from the Paracel Island, they also went to the Bronze Tree and a tomb that has been designated as a residence in the Republican era (that's all I remember, I'm too lazy for another rewatch). For your information, there will be a lot of flashbacks of Wu Sanxing's (Wu Xie's uncle) journey too. Thank goodness, they also sprinkled some humor here and there to ease the growing suspense of the plot.

As I've expected, the acting is wonderful from Neo Hou and Cheng Yi alongside the one who portrayed Pan Zi. They had a lot of bromances when they were together and even still had time to bicker how they were going to survive inside the tomb LOL. Credits for Li Man who pulled off the best version of Ah Ning that I've ever watched. Aside from the four main characters, I also like Xie Yuchen/Xiao Hua and Huo Xiuxiu (who were portrayed seamlessly by Liu Xueyi and Huang Yi).

Despite the good plot and nice character development, I stopped at ep 37 (somehow, they went to the Korean border by magic) and considered it as completed. If you're not into horror, you'd better avoid this one in case you're too frightened to continue (I once had a nightmare because of this drama LOL). If you like it, then this is for you. Good luck and happy watching!

its ok but the first season better

This season 2 is okay, the story and characters were lacking and I did not like the storyline. There was little time to help develop it all. There was little chemistry. The only one I liked was Fatty the rest were off. I hate how stupid they make the main cast member, he trusts and protects everyone, it is so fake and does not match the character, his naivety does not make sense especially when he was raised by his uncle, who is way smarter. I hate his lack of understanding and he is always being lied to and believes everything is hears. Horrible season 2, season 1 was way better, and wish all the story matched.

Bad Bad Writing

It's a bunch of high schooler pretending to be treasure hunters/archeologist. If you're willing to lower your logic as low as possible, then it's watchable. If you can't, then don't waste your time. All the characters action and logic are inconsistent to their supposed "jobs". Well, another good reason to watch this series is, if you want to have a good laugh watching all the moronic behavior of the characters. That's all I can say, and this will be the last "Lost Tomb" series I'll be watching. If you like this kind of genre, "Candle in The Tomb" is a much better option.
