Tharntype is the best thai BL drama I have watched

Basically I am writing this review because I absolutely loved the whole series but still found mostly negative reviews about it which this drama does not deserve . Everybody is emphasizing on the fact that it is toxic because of type's behavior towards Tharn but to be honest I don't think that it is very toxic because he said it himself that he has anger issues and doesn't realize what he is saying especially towards Tharn which is partially also because of his trauma and even if it does not excuse his behavior , is it really important that all the characters have to be the sweet kind and the perfect , well behaved kind except the villain ,I don't think so, rude people do exist and also he really did changed a lot towards the end witch indicates some good character development . As for Tharn he really is the sweetest and the most kind seme I have ever seen and as far as the Consent issue is concerned I don't see any problem with it because yes he should have taken his consent before kissing but it was just a small peck and it could also be seen as a punishment for how type has treated him without any reason.

let me tell you the acting of all the characters was very good , each character was very clear. There was no tension or a feeling of discomfort between the couple and it felt real .

This series is worth to watch and I personally enjoyed it a lot. I am not saying that what other people say is wrong, of course its their opinion but I just couldn't stop myself seeing so many negative comments on such a good show .

It's good enough

Okay so I'm just gonna straight up say... I kinda disliked Type. I understood that that was his character and I guess Gulf did a pretty good job cause I even hate his character now but anyway, Type was sometimes unreasonable and I lowkey felt sorry for Tharn because Type didn't even let him explain. Also, it was understandable he hated gay men but it was stupid that he hated EVERY GAY MEN cuz not every gay men were like that. To be honest, if it wasn't for the kiss and sensual scenes, I would've given this a lower review but I did like how the actors did.

Also, the ost is literally beautiful and it's really catchy, I just liked the main ost of it so I didn't give it a full 10. The story was pretty simple but it didn't rlly matter to me so much, I liked the development of the main couple and how Tharn is so soft for Type but he was pretty pitiful whenever Type bursted at him. Ngl, I would watch this again, it isn't that bad, I just think Type it too dramatic but the love and chemistry between them was beautiful and it was nice to see Type smile every once in a while.

Overall, this was a good BL. It depends on you if you like it or not, but for me, it was good enough and I believe the conflicts and obstacles they went through definitely made their love for each other even grow much stronger than before ^^

Sexual Harrasment

I started the drama with a lot of expectations after reading that it is love story between a homophobic guy, raped in the past and a gay man. I was expecting him to have those memories resurface when they are about to do it for the first time and his partner comforting him. but here they go on to be friends with benefits.. without any specific reason
.. he has no problem in receiving blow jobs. Also he realises he loves him when he is in bed with another girl as if their life only revolved around sex.

despite being in a relationship he still hates gay men. He hates his friend from childhood who comes out to him.

Also there were many instances which made clear that Tharn's friend loved him... but despite his psycho behaviour he was not sent to an institution or received therapy..

lazy writing

That type is definetly in top favorite BL’s and I’ve watched MANY dramas. It’s one I’ve rewatched many times as well when I’ve run out of dramas and every time I’m captivated again and fall in love with these two even more. MewGulf’s chemistry with eachother was so good and their fan service was even better, if you’re looking for a happy and captivating story with some emotional connection then this is the one for you. Idk if this is a spoiler or not but they do have a happy ending which I LOVED and if you like it then you should watch TharnType 2 where they get married and so on, it also has a happy ending. Overall it’s AMAZING and THE BEST.

BEST BL SERIES OUT OF THE ONES I WATCHED!!

Although this is not the the first BL series I watched and only started watching it around Oct'20, but I can say that this is the only series that drives me to binge watch it within a week and I don't regret it. The main leads really put in a lot of effort in this series and I can really see the strong chemistry between them (be it on or off cam). Watched TTSS2 as well as their special episode. They never failed to make me smile and blush at every episode. Highly recommend to watch. I rewatch it many times as its too addictive and this is one of the series I can't move on from!!

its not as bad as how many people are trying to make it look

if you are looking for a serie where both main characters have their own flaws and you are looking for their character development then this is for you, one of the characters is homophobic and they explain later the reason and the trauma he is dealing with, eventually he learns to accept himself ,to accept his sexuality ,so along the way you will see him first denying the truth and being mean that was his way of defending himself even if he was doing it wrong and you will see the character growth with every step he takes.

the other main character didnt understand what boundaries mean and its only in the first eps then you see him feeling guilty and having a flashback about how type said "i hate you", their first time sleeping together happened with consent so there was no rape involved so what im saying he got handsy in the first eps what happened in the first eps werent to the point of "no forgiveness" and dont get me wrong of course consent is important, so im glad their first time sleeping with each others and the next times were all with consent ,this show never romanticized non consent ,i just want to say if you want to watch the show you need to have an open mind so if you feel triggered so easily then this is not for you

the story of the serie is really interesting, i loved the fact that its fast paced even tho sometimes i feel like i need to catch a break lol and there is plot twists too , it kept me excited
the most thing that i loved is the chemistry, the chemistry of tharntype is the best i have ever seen in any bl serie and im not saying the other bls dont have chemistries i loved many of them but tharntype's chemistry is on top.
the other best thing that i loved is the character growth, tharntype of ep 1 are not the same of last ep,they are 2 completely different persons and i loved watching their growth, the only issue i have with this serie is lhong, i dont like how he didnt end up in jail because he should be in jail

A lot of drama but entertaining

I dropped TharnType many times before and really hated it, thought it was very toxic. But picked it up again from ep 4 and feel like I was too harsh, I finally enjoyed it this time.

Seems that if you skip episode 3 then you can watch it and enjoy it without having to feel the "disgust" that TharnType is famous for which also previously made me drop it many times.

If you skip ep 3 and watch from ep 4 then I guarantee you'll be able to enjoy it and their relationship progress will seem normal. From ep 4 on, Type is the one throwing advances at Tharn, he also has a lot of progress at dealing with his internalized homophobia that was caused by childhood sexual abuse

what a mess

truly i don't understand what's all the hype about this series??? somehow it made me feel disgusted. here is why: Type has been sexually abused as a kid and he hates gays, that makes sense and it's logical. but how the hell he had sex with a gay and he was the one suggesting to be the bottom??? and all of that without even having any type of emotion or love towards Tharn???
It's not realistic, he hated gays but he was having fling with one??? it was pire lust and that's what it made it disgusting for me.
i don't mind them having sex just for fun, but only if he wasn't sexually abused. He was making a big deal out of it and he was traumatised but then suddenly he suggest to be the bottom? Like wth???
i tried to complete it n i thought maybe it will get better, but hell no. i just hated the characters, special Type. i didn't feel any kind of love or emotion between them.
For me it was a total disaster, i give it 1 only because of Mew. i will never suggest this to anyone.

Ratings too high.

I really think a lot of people have watched this drama just for the spiciness of it.

Plot is problematic, most of the characters are problematic, it has unnecessary drama and it talks about topics on a way you should never talk about them.

The only thing remarkable of this series is Mew's and Gulf's chemistry and acting. They are amazing together and I really think they deserve main roles on a better constructed series.

I didn't even bother to watch the second season (7 years of love) because it was just a bunch of making out scenes with no plot at all.

Great Chemistry; Weak Plot

"TharnType: The Series" left me with mixed feelings. While the premise of two polar opposites falling in love, especially with one of the characters harboring a profound hatred for gay people due to trauma from his childhood, is cliche, the show does deliver on it pretty well so for people who enjoy this type of storyline, they won't be dissapointed. However, it should be noted that storyline is intense, and it’s not your typical sweet romance; it dives into heavier themes like overcoming prejudice, personal healing, and exploring one’s sexuality.

From the start, the chemistry between Mew Suppasit, who plays Tharn, and Gulf Kanawut as Type is undeniable. Their connection feels genuine and raw, drawing me into their relationship and making it easy to get swept up in their emotions. Mew and Gulf bring a captivating physicality to their scenes, and I was genuinely impressed by how well they embodied these roles. They manage to make the progression of their romance believable, despite some of the more controversial scenes. Their chemistry is the glue holding the show together, and it’s no surprise that they quickly gained a huge fanbase from this series alone.

That said, "TharnType" is not without its flaws. One of the hardest parts for me was the way certain sensitive themes were handled. Type’s homophobia, a result of his past trauma, is understandable in context, but some of the methods Tharn uses to break down those walls felt manipulative or even problematic. The story relies on a lot of intense, sometimes harsh, interactions between the two, which can feel uncomfortable to watch. I had to remind myself that this series was aiming to portray a more intense and complex relationship rather than a straightforward love story, but still, some scenes felt hard to justify. If you are looking for a simple, healthy romance, please skip this show. Both Tharn and Type are problematic in their own ways and it was difficult for me to forget how Tharn basically forced himself on Type because he wasn't happy with the way Type acted and how Type agreed to go on a date with a girl, even going as far as going to her home, while he was still sleeping with Tharn. These two aren't very likable characters in my opinion and it says a lot about how good the acting was for me to be able to enjoy the show even with them as the leads.

The plot occasionally feels rushed, with moments that seem glossed over, and at times I wished there was a more nuanced approach to addressing Type’s trauma and emotional growth. Despite this, the story’s arc does show his gradual transformation, as he begins to confront his own fears and prejudices, largely due to Tharn’s unwavering patience. It’s satisfying to see the progress Type makes, even though I wished it had been portrayed with a bit more sensitivity.

Beyond the main plot, "TharnType" also does a decent job at portraying friendships and secondary relationships. The supporting characters add depth to the main couple’s story, especially Techno, Type’s best friend, who often serves as a voice of reason. The series might not be perfect, but it’s refreshing to see a BL drama attempting to tackle tough themes and give its characters complex backstories.

Overall, "TharnType: The Series" is both engaging and polarizing. The romance is fiery and passionate, and the leads bring a lot of heart to their roles, making it easy to get invested in their journey. However, I’d recommend approaching it with an open mind and some caution, especially given the series’ more intense moments. While I found it compelling, it’s not for everyone, and it’s definitely a story that pushes boundaries within the BL genre. If you’re a fan of love stories that delve into complex issues and don’t shy away from the darker side of relationships, "TharnType" is worth the watch – just be prepared for an emotional rollercoaster.

Trigger warnings !

If i could rate this the lowest of the lowest i would. Very disgusting story ! very disturbing. It triggered me so much that i couldn’t barely finish it. The producers or someone could’ve told the story better. Thailand needs to stop fetishizing r*pe it’s very unprofessional & disgusting ! I don’t understand why Thailand keeps doing this, it doesn’t make the story any better it just makes viewers uncomfortable. The acting was slightly okay, but some parts of the series are completely disturbing.

TW for sexual assault and homophobia

This was one of the first BLs I ever watched, and honestly, it was traumatising and off putting. As an SA victim, this show is literally so triggering to watch, and also as a member of the LGBT community, it's so uncomfortable. So if you're sensitive to these topics, please do yourself a favour and don't watch it. But also just in general, don't watch it. It's so strange. There is no excuse to force yourself on someone, even if that person is homophobic and "deserves it" (no one does), and in what world is sexual assault going to change anyone's opinion on gay people???
