Ok, listen, it's 2 am and I dropped this drama after the 4th episode. And I'm SO mad.

Yes, it does have steamy scenes that are fulfilling empty BL fans hearts.
Yes, the actors are good looking.
Superficially speaking, it's good.

But the script is a NIGHTMARE. It's soaked in ignorance and is overall a sad excuse of recherche.
I am very aware that it's a fictional story but that won't dismiss the drama of credibility. Jesus take the wheel.

This drama draws a very toxic and very wrong picture of very serious issues, such as child abuse, rape, lack of consent, the LGBTQ+ community and homophobia.
Sorry not sorry to crush your thirsty dreams but a rape victim won't easily sleep with another person without any hint of hesitation. In reality it's a long, frustrating and painful process that has been - for the sake of sexualization - completely ignored in this drama.
An abuse victim also won't tell someone they barely know about their dark past. I'm not saying it's impossible but highly unlikely.
The dialogue between the two main leads regarding their "tragic pasts" was superficial. There comes a certain depth in the choice of words with such experiences, but - I blame the script - the actors couldn't portray it accordingly.
Next thing on my list is the problematic portrayal of LGBTQ+ people. Yes, there are snowflakes that abuse the movement for childish and stupid actions. But I highly doubt that the shown examples are in any way common. It only fuels the fight between the two fronts. If they sincerely wanted to leave a positive note on LGBTQ+, they failed.
Another thing: consent. Dear lord. Who needs consent if the actors are hot. Who needs consent if the scene turns me on.
I NEED CONSENT. And you need it too. Lakorns and ML Chinese projects tend to throw morals and consent out of the window and the fans can't shut up about how hot it is.
I said it a thousand times and I will say it again: it's a dangerous message to send. Especially to younger, inexperienced
viewers. No, it's not okay, to grope a sleeping or drunk person. Especially if they faced sexual abuse in their past. And don't even try to protect Tharn. There were red flags everywhere. Types possibly abusive past was part of a discussion with No. And still, he decided to just "claim" this person. It's wrong. Seriously twisted.

Back to the pathetic script: it would have been better to use more and longer flashbacks to emphasize the trauma
Not just empty monologuing. The character did develop but in a way the viewers couldn't really take part in. There were literally scenes where Type said X and in the next he completely changed his mind to Y. Sometimes I felt as if they cut half of the scenes off.

I'm done with this.
Tldr; I believe their display of psychological trauma was not satisfying. The lack of understanding and recherche is outrageous.
If all they wanted, was to show a steamy romance between two guys they could have done so without trying to make it pseudo deep.
It sends a wrong message. And those who have to pay for it once again are real victims of abuse.
What a shame.

This Series more likely expressed the disrespectful side of homosexual people. This series project gays are as the sex toys who just sex at night and being a homophobic in real. The sexual assaults are highly encouraged. The characters are lack of chemistry in the emotions but just skinship only. It is just waste of time. The scene where Tharn and Type sex in-front of his friend sleeping in couch in totally unacceptable and disrespectful. By showing that story line; look like the writer is trying to tell viewers as the gay peoples are manner-less and get as low to the level for sex.

This drama was just perfect! It´s funny how love can wipe up everything! From hate to love... I liked everything is this drama except one fact. I felt like Tharn´s character was always a little bit inferiorized. His image, good looking, handsome, great body type, etc, makes him as a really masculine guy. But, as the serie keeps going, I just saw him being TOO emotional too many times... didn´t "match"... this is just my point of view, nothing else. Might be judge for it but it´s ok ahahah, peace.
I wish I could´ve seen as well a little bit more of interection between Type´s family and his lover, because it was just too little but still, great serie. Thank you so much!

Not a show for babies!

Let me make one thing very clear: you are allowed to like a series even if it depicts problematic behaviour/characters!

There are a lot of people on here who seem to rate this show based on how healthy the relationship of the protagonists is instead of the actual quality of the show, which I find questionable. I mean, do Tharn and Type do shit to each other they really shouldn't be doing? YES! But is that type of behaviour, as so many people here seem to claim, romanticised? No! Depicting toxic behaviour in a romcom does not equal romanticising it. We see both characters struggling with their own behaviour throughout the whole show and growing from the experiences. Tharn and Type from episode 1 are not the same Tharn and Type we see in the last episode. What this series depicts is very flawed characters who fall in love with each other and despite doing horrible things to each other manage to forgive each other and built a healthier relationship - something that a lot of people in real life experience!

And apart from all of that, compared to other thai BL, Tharntype actually has a good production and actors who (mostly lol) know what they're doing. The screenwriting was also on point! We don't have to deal with any uninteresting side-characters or bullshit side-plots. The focus of this show is on the main couple always which really helps to keep the viewers on their toes from the first to the last second.

This series is high quality entertainment! I totally get that it's not for everyone, especially not for people who prefer their romance shows to be soft and fluffy (and healthy lol), but nobody should be saying that this show is overrated just because they don't like to see flawed and problematic characters in a relationship.

Sadly, the world isn't a fucking rainbow and so isn't Tharntype, but as long as you don't expect that, this show might make you very very happy as it made me and many other people.

Best on-screen chemistry

This one was my first Thai Drama and I (except for one part, which was made a little more acceptable by Gulfs inability to control himself) absolutely loved it. However I purposely waited to write a review until I had watched some different ones to be able to compare. This one is still one of my favourites.

I will not say anything about the actors ability to act on their own, they were surely great however what seems more important to me with this Drama is the undeniable Chemistry that Mew (tharn) and Gulf (Type) deliver on screen (and also off screen for that matter). Never have I ever shipped any actors based on their acting together. But these two are just on another level and I can not help myself but love them together.
This is definitely supported by the amount of skinship in this series, that seemed extraordinarily natural (again thanks to their amazing chemistry), especially compared to other BL dramas that sometimes tend to be a little awkward when it comes to intimate interactions, as far as I have experienced. This one definitely took on screen action to another level.

Lastly let’s talk a bit about the plot. Honestly the plot probably wasn’t all that well thought out on it’s own. But that kind of made it a little more entertaining and fun to watch. However, all parts fit well together and left almost no loose ends. Everything that happened was in line with how the characters were portrayed.
The side characters were nicely chosen as well and played nicely into the main plot.
In the end the story even managed to surprise me, even though I‘m usually good at foretelling how plots evolve. What I also don‘t want to leave unmentioned is the great job the writer did with character development throughout the series especially on Types part. We can actually see him grow and change throughout the series.

Definitely watch it if you haven’t yet!

I know that this drama has many reviews but i have to add my opinions. I almost didnt watch it because i saw comments telling me that this is overrated drama and they have toxic relationship but i am glad that i did watch it because it has amazing story and you know, i love stories. So i know why you love it so much, but i also know that maybe Tharn´s actions wasnt entirely right and yes, he made hickeys to Type when he was drunk, but he didn´t rape him as i saw in the drama The effect. Then i cant say anything bad about him because touching hair and forehead or kiss on face when he was sleeping is nothing bad even when they werent in relationship yet. You know that these actions mum or dad do their children so for me its alright. I love this story, although there are some flaws. So if you wanna watch it or not, its up to you.

The story needs work

I think that overall it is an amazing show with a great cast. However I would be lying if I said that it shows Tharn raping Type. As much as I wanted it to be a great show. Like a lot of other shows it shows rape as not a big deal. :( I don't like that part at all especially the trauma Tharn causes Type to relive. I think 100% that was rape and that it should not be condoned. However I do understand that Tharn helps Type but I still think that it should show Tharn regretting his actions. Also the part where no one calls the authorities on Lhong is still a little questionable. However I could see if maybe they could understand a little because of his childhood why he was like that. His childhood however still does not excuse what he did to Tar though. Please have that boy in therapy :( . Acting of course with Mew was a 100%. Other than all that it was a great show. I have re watched this show at least five times.

Big spoiler but great show

*****MAJOR SPOILERS*****

I finished TharnType about two weeks ago. I have quite a lot to say about this show. There were a lot of ups and downs but it all tied together fantastically. I must say that this is the most excited I have ever been for another season of a show to come out. There is still so much more that I want to see happen between Tharn and Type. Their chemistry is super believable. They fit together like two pieces of a puzzle. I think that they bring their natural personalities into the drama to make everything seem more natural.  They didn't look uncomfortable or anything when filming the steamy scenes which I liked a lot.  Sometimes during the same sex steamy scenes you can tell that an actor is uncomfortable which tends to get on my nerves. I really don't like it when the actors are forced to do something that they really don't want to do. I really came to dislike Lhong and a lot of us did. What he did to Tar was just unfathomable. Yes, I sympathize with him because of what he went through and the mental illnesses that he obviously had but that still doesn't excuse him from the punishment he should get. I honestly wish that he just told Tharn about his feelings.  I personally know just how hard it can be to tell someone that you have feelings for them especially if they are your best friend but that would have been so much easier than doing what he did. I know that there is always a possibility that they wouldn't want to be friends with you after you tell them but knowing Tharns personality I really don't think that would have happened. Even if he didn't tell him, he could have just not metaled in Tharns business.  Because, if he didn't do anything to get between Tharn and his past boyfriends than they would still be friends. He wouldn't have lost the one person that he truly loved. One thing that frustrated me was the fact that Thorn accepted Lhongs apology when it wasn't really his place to do so. But I shouldn't make such a big deal about it because it was just a small part and it's over now. Let's talk about Techno. Personally, I thought that Techno was a great addition to the story. I think that he played Types best friend nicely. His character is so sweet and I think that he did a good job at helping Type control himself. I honestly thought that he was going to end up having some feelings for Type.  I thought that maybe he was getting super close to Type and that made him realize his feelings for his best friend. Which honestly would have most likely only caused more drama. Okay now it's time to really talk about the beloved main characters. Let's start with Tharn. I liked Tharns character a lot. I loved that he was very family oriented and cared deeply about those around him. I didn't however, like how he would kiss Type while he was sleeping. I think that it was wrong and didn't need to happen. I know that he didn't mean it in a bad way or anything but if that was happening to me I would feel super uncomfortable. I like that Tharn is completely dedicated to Type.  Type is his love, his home, and his safe place. Tharn would do anything for Type because he loves and trusts Type with every ounce of his heart. Now lets talk about Type. Type had to face a pretty rough obstacle when he was just 11 years old.  I could never imagine facing what that boy had to. And of course it left him traumatized. He has constant nightmares about what happened to him that day. And after that he became homophobic. I sympathize with Type because of what happened to him but I don't think it's right that he's homophobic. Just because one man did something bad to him doesn't mean that all gays are horrible people. That was just one person. Yes I'm sure that he's scared of it happening again but that doesn't give him the right to be a complete jerk. I mean just look at what he put Kom through. His own childhood friend.  I know that he means well but he really needs to look at what he's doing and just how much his words can hurt others. I mean he got really lucky that Tharn is emotionally strong because if it was someone else then Type could have gotten in a lot of trouble. Type really is a good guy though. He just has some bumps and bruises from his past. He cares so much about Tharn.  He constantly thinks about him and most of the time he is doing it subconsciously. I loved when he spoke to Kom for the first time in 4 years since he found out that Kom was gay.  He apologized for his wrong doing and for hurting him emotionally.  He really cared about him and felt horrible for what he did.  I wish that he would have contacted Kom sooner but I understand that he didn't know how to address what had happened.  I also understand that he thought that Kom wouldn't accept his apology and forever hate him for what happened at the bar that night.  He constantly feels bad for what he does but I believe that he does what he does because he doesn't want anything like that to happen to him again.  The boys relationship is very strong and I hope that it will continue to grow throughout season 2.  I hope that Types dad really begins to accept them and realize just how much the two boys love each other.  I'm scared and excited to see what's going to happen between our beloved lovers.  I wish them the best and can't wait till we see them on the big screen again.  Untit then, please continue to support Mew and Gulf.  (Also please stream Season of You by Mew Suppasit.)

I loved it but it is hard to watch

TW : there is a lot of homophobia, mentions of rape, and some questionable scenes...

TharnType is one of my favorites and you should definitely give it a watch but please be cautious, I think the storyline and the acting is good enough to push past those and while I didn't find them too bad I don't want anyone to go into it not knowing these things.

The story follows roommates Tharn (A gay drummer) and Type (A homophobic soccer player with a terrible temper)
In this drama we see Type grow past his homophobia and past trauma with the help of Tharn. This story will fuck you up emotionally, It's a rollercoaster of gay and not gay and I love you but I hate you and UGH they can be very frustrating at times but I genuinely think it's worth crying at three am.

Honestly the best BL thai drama I have ever watched! From perfect cast, acting to production and editing. Don't forget the soundtrack!! omgggg top all other drama! I highly highly recommend watching this series! Mew and Gulf have the best chemistry from all the other couples of other BL drama in my opinion!

Most of the time with Thai BL drama you find it cringey to watch new actors acting but never on TharnType! I love how each actor's acting are super natural! Very well done to P'Mame the author of the series for creating a masterpiece! Xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx

Just a little TW:

To get it out of the way: Trigger warning for domestic violence/ partner on partner violence.

^Just wanted to put this first.

The show is good! Don’t get me wrong, I just don’t like domestic violence and it put me off just a bit. Overall, good story, hot chemistry, and an I retreating watch. I think that fact that this features internalized homophobia was an interesting choice. It’s honesty the most intense version of IH that I’ve seen in a show. People might try to not like someone but this really showcased how hard someone’s own feels can be to deal with. So I would recommend watching this but just know that is is not all rainbows and butterflies! I enjoyed the show and the character development a lot.
