Awesome but that ending...

This was really good show. I loved the acting and the chemistry really appealing though I did find Type to be somewhat difficult facial expressions, it was all a little bit too Kristen Stewart. The rest of it was really good, I especially enjoyed the character Techno, he was a really good character that gave off a pretty good balance to some of the seriousness of the show. Also it was a lot more sensual than most of the BL I have watched since starting this.
The soundtrack was amazing as well, will definitely be listening to some of it. I did find the ending a bit lacking, considering all that the main antagonist did I would have expected at least an arrest.

overrated but has a toxic story

The story starts off with Type being homophobic because of a trauma he has experienced in his past. But his character was really unnecessary towards his behaviour towards Tharn. He was basically wrecking things and trashing food like a child. When Tharn took advantage of Type's drunk self, that is when the story got really toxic and uncomfortable. Both characters are really toxic with each other. Type possesses anger issues while Tharn possesses having trust issues.
And the whole story is really having making up sex rather than proper communication.

I really love Mew Gulf's acting because they looked like they have good chemistry and is really comfortable with each other. They are able to portray their own characters. Gulf really portrayed a character that can be hated to being loved towards the end of the story. The music is good and very catchy that is loved by fans. So apart from the story, the acting and the music were a lot better.

10/11 WOULD RECOMMEND

First of all, if you’re looking for a light bl series that doesn’t tackle much issues then this isn’t the bl series for you.

You must have an open mind to be able to watch this series. While I agree that there are problematic parts, the plot and storyline definitely made up for it.

Most of the haters of this show is just hopping in the bandwagon without watching the entire series first. And yes, when I first started watching this there are scenes that are uncomfortable for me and could do better. But, i still gave it the benefit of the doubt and I fount out that this show is not for the weakhearted lol. You must be very mature and open minded to understand the whole concept and not judge the series based from what you read on twitter just to hop on the bandwagon.

But anyways, like every other bl series, this one is not perfect. But in terms of plot, storyline, acting, visuals and everything, this is the one that I liked the most. The chemistry between the two actors are just 100% match. Mew Suppasit, despite being in his late 20s, didn’t disappoint and as a rookie actor for Gulf Kanawut, i must say that I am bery impressed on how he lived and portrayed his character, Type. THE PLOT TWIST is definitely unexpected.

So overall, 10/11 would recommend.

(Short Review)
I had decided last night I would stop after watching episode 11 of Tharntype as it was 2 AM and I was exhausted; however, I just couldn't stop watching! This series has honestly been a top one for me. I ended up finishing it around 3:30 AM this morning and I definitely do not regret it hehe.

Story 10/10:
- This story handled a lot of dark subjects and the effects it has on people and I thought it was very well done. It had some plot twists that were shocking for me and it just added to the effect.

Acting/Cast 10/10:
- Oh my goodness! These actors/actresses were absolutely amazing. Everyone fits their part perfectly and I love the chemistry between the two ML! The main antagonist was excellent as well.

Music 9/10:
- The music really added to the scenes and increased the happiness/sadness/anger lolol. There were just a few times that it either was put in weirdly or cut off weird but besides that it was excellent.

Rewatch Value 10/10:
- I will 100% be watching this again! It was a rollercoaster but it was awesome and it would be great to watch it again and pick up things I hadn't the first time

Overall 10/10:
- This was such a great show and I totally recommend it anyone starting out with BLs. It has a lot of insightful moments and the storyline was amazing and entrancing.

The toxic beginning didn't make me drop it.

It was the forced writing near the end.

Some TharnType reviews about the problematic aspects almost kept me away from this series. But considering the raving reviews I’ve seen on other shows that I dropped, I decided I had to know my own opinion.

You don’t have to like everything a character does in a series in order to like watching. In fact, isn’t it often that we love to watch characters make terrible decisions because we would never make the choice in real life? We want to see what happens next.

Now my favorite top tier romances are the problematic free (or at least mostly) with realistic decisions and characters with amazing chemistry, where the writing and acting shine. But there is another form--that is a guilty pleasure. There’s always some problematic characters and portrayals. The circumstances and plot are wild, and characterizations are sometimes absurd and unrealistic, but they’ll still follow a semblance of logic. It’s just that the premise is so intriguing and the acting and chemistry holds it together enough that you keep watching.

The actions of the characters aren’t so abhorrent that it makes it impossible to enjoy. If you like the chemistry between characters it’s easy to bypass the brief distasteful parts and focus on what you like. Anyone who’s read and enjoyed a lot of BL has probably done it to some degree with at least one story. I’ve done it with many.

Honestly despite the flaws in how he was written sometimes, Tharn’s character kind of carries the plot. Type’s character would normally be incredibly insufferable to watch: stubborn and hard to sympathize with. Type has little characterization beyond “homophobic because he was victimized.” So the story is super reliant on Tharn’s opinions of him for the audience to not resent Type’s character. The power dynamics between them are also quite imbalanced, but not to such an awful degree. The beginning is an unhealthy dynamic that no one should strive to obtain in real life. But the development between the characters feels meaningful despite the issues in the writing. I think the actors carry and elevate what might have been a train-wreck otherwise.

You can tell in TharnType that someone was trying to make poignant commentary on homophobia and discrimination, but they must have gotten distracted by their convoluted plot and characters because whatever message they wanted to convey is nonexistent. You can’t even tell the point they were trying to make.

I don’t consider this a spoiler since it’s sort of in the summary, but I will say I hate how trauma related to being the victim of pedophilia is used as a catalyst for the character’s homophobia. If dealt with more elegantly and not problematically, the homophobia should have been on the surface as a defense mechanism, whereas the real fear is rooted in sexual intimacy, and perhaps more internalized homophobia rather than general homophobia. But none of that was even considered or mentioned. The motivation is a cardboard cutout with no depth.

There’s plenty of series I’ve dropped that did not contain problematic elements. But the problem was they were either boring or lacked chemistry. The two most important elements. So if I have to sit through some problematic portrayals to watch something both interesting and with good (enough) chemistry, then doggone it I’m going to do it as long as I can.

I went in knowing what to expect which maybe made it easier to get past. I can’t imagine watching the series cold and encountering the problematic elements unexpectedly. I could see that instantly turning you off the show.

The biggest detriment to watching was the side couple. I don’t know if I fell asleep when they were introduced but for 6 episodes I had no clue who they were and why I was supposed to care about them. I had to google to find out about half way through. And even once I knew who they were, their scenes were pretty uninteresting, and they only had one scene an episode. They appeared so sparsely that their presence didn’t make sense, and merely acted like a boring commercial break of the main story. Once their story crossed paths with the mains the plot really felt forced and cliche. It just made me tired to watch the new source of conflict, so I dropped it.

Feeling sorry for the cast

This show is probably the worst Thai drama I’ve ever seen.
The colors, the music and the acting were ok, even the production didn’t look that cheap compared to the previous dramas I watched… but the story is awful.

As a gay man I feel embarrassed that people watch and in some ways like this kind of content, because is toxic, unrealistic and clearly written by an ethero who idolizes gay relationships. Someone should stop this author from writing poor script and I’m happy to see people on this site ho recognize toxicity for what it is.

I find lazy that the script gives Type a tragic past to justify his behaviour towards gay men, he should go to therapy… I hope this issue gets cleared in the following episodes because I couldn’t bear any longer after watching episode 4 and its bed scene.
Repeat after me: you can’t cure homophobia with gay sex.

I don’t understand Tharn either: why accepting Type’s attitude without getting too upset and develop feelings for him? He is a victim of Type’s homophobia but he decides to act EXACTLY the same way as the one who assaulted Type as a young boy. He’s described as a reliable, calm and collected guy but he turns evil for fun.
Good job ruining gay representation again.

The only good thing about this series is the chemistry between Mew Suppasit and Gulf Kanawut who play their roles flawlessly, they’re convincing and you can feel the emotions in their eyes. It’s a good point wasted in the worst Thai drama unfortunately.

Holy shit this is bad.

I liked Tharn the first half of episode 1 because he's a self assertive, confident, openly gay man. However, I'm forced to drop this because he proceeded to sexually assault Type 3 times over 3 episodes. It's disgusting and more so because all 3 incidents are brushed away like they were innocent pranks. The first time Type was drunk-unconscious. The second and third time he was frozen with fear. If consent ever mattered to Tharn then he should have stopped MUCH earlier the second time. And given how Type reacted to his advances, Tharn never should have attempted the third time. It doesn't matter if Type ultimately relented because he still froze up and begged Tharn to stop.

Besides, Tharn's actor is way too old to play a college freshman. Type's crying is extremely fake, so are his nightmare episodes.

I’ll get straight to the point.
This drama was extremely hard to watch and it got the the point where I had to just drop it at episode 3.
⚠️Trigger Warning
There was nothing more to their (relationship)build up than borderline r*pe and s*xual assault. I was loving the show until the end of episode 1 when
⚠️Spoiler
Tharn basically is forcing himself onto Type in his sleep(Type is also extremely drunk in this situation keep that in mind) That drew me away but with seeing high ratings I kept and powered through, yet it’s just a repetition of Tharn forcing himself onto Type( a gay man forcing himself onto a “straight” man which is wrong and vise versa), I continued to ignore these moments until I got to episode three ⚠️Spoiler ⚠️ Where Tharn follows Type into the shower and begins to kiss on him all the while Type is repeatedly telling Tharn “No”. That’s where I stopped, if you want a genuine love or are sensitive to these topics, I suggest you don’t even come near this drama. Although I can be wrong.

it's not my type

well, the chemistry between Type and Tharn was actually good however I hated Type character because he hurt Tharn more than one time and they ended up together now that's messed up because Type was about to cheat on Tharn or maybe he did I just skip when he was on his date with the girl. look I don't care how you put it I like BL drama but I hate cheaters and I get that he was rape but nor all gay are rapist I didn't like how he says he hates gay and still ends up sleeping with Tharn then throw him away then realize his mistake. no, I am not planning on completing this at ep 6 was where I dropped this I believe that was here he started to have a side chick, if a BL show has a hit of cheating I feel super uncomfortable. This isn't my type of show maybe someone like it but not me. I am biased toward cheating characters and action. Man and I was seriously liking this until I started to get the cheating vibe.

This is the type of drama that you excitedly wait for the next episode while hoping it never ends. Tharn and Type are roommates. Type hates gays and Tharn is gay. Now the fun begins! Watch as Tharn slowly and sexily changes Type's way of thinking. The sex scenes are intoxicating. The kisses are delicious. The leads are both very handsome. The dialogue is very witty and mature. I love how this drama is being played out. It's very romantic and the sex scenes are very tastefully done, showing just enough to make you want more. The minor characters are great, but Type and Tharn steal the show. Only 5 episodes are available as I type this review and I have watched all 5 at least twice. Please let there be a happy ending.

After some of the good BLs of 2019 had concluded (MODC, DBK, He's coming to me, etc.). I decided to come back and give it another try after not seeing it since episode 2, as I was very bored. Before I started the 3rd episode, I rewatched a few scenes from Episode 2. Particularly, I gave the scene where Tharn made unwanted sexual advances to Type lots of attention. I was trying to decipher how some fans were able to see it as other than sexual assault. I watched it a number of times. Trying to see it in a new light. And when I finally did (I decided to look at it as Tharn just exacting his revenge... Stupid. I know.), I was able to let it go. So then I procedeed to watch the 3rd episode. I was willing already to let Tharn's past actions go and forgive him. I was starting to see him as a good person. Then, out of nowhere, the bathroom scene happened.... I don't know about y'all but that was rape right there.

Undoubtedy, the two leads have so much chemistry together that I want to see more of them. However, I no longer want to put up with this. This really is problematic at best. A trigger warning for those who had been sexually abused before would be right for this.
