Watched it for the main leads

Basically watched it for main leads and rewatched clips of the whole drama showing just the main leads scenes. Loved this drama. I did not mind all the bad reviews as i have a lot of time to spend. The cinematography is gorgeous, the costumes are wonderful except for a few pairs I was not fond of. Most common complaint on this drama is the excessive scenes given to the second leads that dragged the drama but i really don't mind this. The music is definitely incomparable! I don't know what else to write about but full disclosure is that I love any dramas of Zhao Lusi. I thought this should be said here.

This is a very good Wuxia fantasy drama with a nice and steadfast romance. He had loved her for a thousand years and, at the end, he finds a way for them to be together, forever, in a world of their own. The drama is not without its faults but it is entertaining. The leading couple has a very sweet chemistry and their romantic scenes, although not many, are done nicely. The drama has decent choreographed action scenes and nice CGIs. Although the ending seems confusing, it can be interpreted as coming full circle and, with the containment of the evil spirits, Yan Yan comes back to her life as a child that grows into a mischievous woman that finds herself dreaming and missing a mysterious man who, at the end, brings her back into a painting where he’s been waiting for her to fulfill the promise that they will be together forever. As said before, even with some dragging and boorish moments, this drama provides good entertainment and a sweet romance. Enjoy it!

Unfortunately, disappointing drama!

I am a fan of Zhao Lusi, so i started watching this drama. It is definitely not one of her best roles. There are a lot of holes in the story and it creates a lack of chemistry between the 2 main characters. Zhen Yechen does a great job in his role of Fu Jiu Yun, showing different sides of his character; detached, romantic, playful, determined. We understand the love of Fu Jiu Yun for Qin Chuan based on the scenario but it is hard for the viewer to perceive the right emotions. And during, the first 20 episodes, it is easy to be annoyed by Qin Chuan and her stubbornness as she doesn't want to acknowledge and disregard what others sacrifice for her. She never doubts her plan, while her plans all failed and all the characters around her risk their own lives to save her multiple times. Xuan Zhu's character is as limited as the FL's one. One only focus on her revenge, while the other one is just obsessed by Zi Chen, and both make same mistakes due to their lack of clairvoyance and open-mindedness.
The story itself is a good idea and i feel overall this drama could have been way better if the characters were a bot more developed.
This is a drama i would not re-watch as once you know Fu Jiu Yun's story, nothing else is relevant or pleasant enough to watch the 30 episodes all over again.

No more Spirit Lamp Please.

I am a big fan of Zhao Lu Si and this is my final drama of hers that I haven’t seen. I’m very surprised that this drama was released in 2020 because it doesn’t seem like a 2020 drama. It feels very dated. I thought Zheng Ye Cheng was fine in Sassy Princess, but for some reason, I didn’t quite get his character in A love of Thousand Years.

A 30 episode melodrama isn’t long enough to warrant the emotions and feels for what the plot was trying to tell. I’ve NEVER like a revenge plot storyline, it usually works out if that isn’t the main driving point of the story. I thought the FL only had tunnel vision and her quest for vengeance was very trying. At episode 20 I was kind of getting fed up with it.

Sometimes a simple conversation or letting the other person know if they do this, then this will happen could solve all problems. BUT that would be too simple right?

The story building of the drama is fairly weak and the whole idea behind the Spirit Lamp was just confusing and I felt like random things were told to drive the plot. Oh, if you do ABC then this will happen, BUT only if DFG doesn’t happen first. You are like what?

I didn’t really feel the chemistry between the leads. I think it’s because I didn’t get any world building on their love of a “thousand years”. You start the drama and boom you are to believe he’s been loving her all this time? Where is the build up? It also didn’t help that a different girl was casted for the previous life, so I didn’t know what was going on.

I feel like this drama is good if you are a fan of the stars and if you like short historical pieces. I didn’t really care for the plot, costumes or how heavy the drama was.

had some potential, but failed through post production and story telling

production/story: I think the story would be interesting, if it was told better and them having put more effort/money into the post production work. But it didn't happen and for a viewer it was very confusing. Especially the beginning with the sudden character changes. Besides of that I felt they should have invested more into the CGI.

acting/cast/character: Both leads are actually decent, especially male lead was interesting, but that's all the impression I got from the whole cast.

overall: If you are a fan of Zhao Lusi or male lead you could give it a try, but imo this drama got too many weaknesses.

Its just a pathetic editing of a good plot

I started it with high expectation but as the story progresses it was not at all bearable!

I tried to drop it even after 5th episode but still carried myself forcibly with a hope that it will get better.

The editing is nonsense, abrupt and confusing. Some places the support actor did the job really very bad. Their acting looks so fake and annoying. It became sooooo slow that I have to give up finally. I dont understand why this production killed such a good plot with weak acting and editing.

A TOTAL TIME WASTE!

My most tiring and dragging drama experience ever!!!

I have watched quite a lot of dramas but this one push me to my limits.

The drama as a whole is definitely a good creative endeavor but personally I felt to slow and draining. The actors did a fine job and production was also fine not great but fine. They could have done a 6 episode story but they went for 30 falafal episodes.

I wouldn't suggest it for binge watchers but over a long period of time you can watch this drama. For me once is enough. I am also planning to stop my drama viewing mania for the foreseeable future.

This is the first C-drama I watch that got me hook. Zheng YeCheng and Rosy Zhao LuSi were the cutest couple and made this drama worth watching. The duo had the cutest dynamic or because Zhao Lusi is naturally the cutest actress right now - she has the freshness of youth like she just coming out from shower - her smile brighten the day. I love their interaction, the chemistry of them were purely bliss although YiCheng is the mature character in this drama - he's compatible with LuSi's cuteness. I like Er Meng's (Mao Fang Yuan) dumb character, LuSi has best interaction with him although short air time together, they are good to each other.

The rest of the cast though I don't really care, the idea of story has great potential - just that production team didn't execute it right. The technicality was terrible...we can see obvious fake visual effects, the supporting actors lousy - none of them doing their role good to bring out the best of whole collaboration. but great OST. The best for the whole production is Zheng YiCheng and Zhao LuSi became the first cutest CP....follows with Ryan Ding, Liu Yu Ning, Xu Kai Cheng..and next.

Everything so far is great about drama. It warms the heart and makes you fall in love with love.

I can't stop watch the ost. The two main leads are great together. It leaves such a positive feeling.

I'm in love with love.

I can rewatch the episodes and can't wait for the next episodes to come on out. I'm a little sad that it only has 30 episodes as I do love cdramas and don't mind long dramas when it has a good story line.

I can live through the characters for a short time and feel that love can heal all.

Dropped at episode 11

Firstly, the only character that had some grit to it was the evil Crown Prince played by Dai Yun Fan. I have to say the actor was hot and I would have preferred he and Lusi as a couple instead of the pretty boy lead played by Zheng Ye Cheng. Secondly, the editing and CGI were terrible and that made the story seem inconsistent. Thirdly, the romance was so-so, the usual run-of-the-mill plot of a boy loving the girl for no damn reason other than she was just there. Lastly, the lead female character must have been the worst that Lusi has ever played. The Princess had no discernable character growth, power, or attributes that could make me root for her.

ONE OF THE MOST STRESSFUL DRAMA FOR ME

It is stressful because of the fact that Yan Yan is in love with Fu Jiuyun in Ah Man's body, It would be better if, once Yan Yan finish her mission she will go back to her real appearance and Zichen and Yan Yan will fall inlove with each other again and Ah Man will be revived and Fu Jiuyun and her can start anew. In my opinion, Zheng Ye Cheng doens't fit Fu Jiuyun's character because he's chubby and historical dramas doesn't really fit his visual. Also, Zichen's role should be the main role instead of Fu Jiuyun. Zhao Lusi looks so chubby in this drama but she's now skinnier now (2023) This is the reason why I'm dropping this drama...
