Jang Tae Jun with more power than before starts his plans to change the world of today's politics by getting rid of the corruption in the house.
This, of course, proves quickly to be very hard and he and the people he trusts have to struggle. Every victory quickly becomes a loss. One step forward, two steps back.
A season that is even more heavy than the first but also has way more satisfying moments.
Is the ending worth the suffering you might endure watching this and the previous season? Yes definitely.
The acting is still as good, as well as the music.
Ps, this show has really made me think about how much of this is true to what happens behind politics in real life, quite a scary thought...

RETALIATION TIME
NON SPOILER :'I'll be the light in the darkness '
This 2nd season started with such high hopes and for good measure, it has delivered every bit of it.
Outstanding finish to such an elegant drama.
This drama is an ART.
An art of reflection for a power struggle in the most heinous way.
When I first saw the 1st season, It left me with numerous questions in my mind and this season answered all of them graciously.
Politics is a tool, if used in the right way is beneficial for the people.
Ardently, it ends with a dark theme just near the end to give you a little shock.
I'm sure many of you wouldn't have been able to catch it since it was in a mixed tone but the writer saw it through.
ACTING: The whole cast needs to be applauded.
Both Lee Jung Jae ( Tae Jun) and Kim Gab Soo (Mr Song) are the souls of this drama.
Especially Kim Gab Soo, I've seen him numerous times now.
He's a LEGEND ! for playing villains every time. ^^
Phenomenal acting. They deserve awards for this one I'm truly convinced.
DIRECTION: Mind-boggling direction of the year 2019.
Songs: Cool and reflective to the nature of the drama.
Romance: It's pure mature romance, nothing cheesy but in terms of realism you would definitely want to have a relationship like our both leads do.
That kind of understanding and trust, just makes you want to have someone in your life ^^
SPOILER with thoughts on ending :
Seriously Song Hui Seop is the most cunning and sagacious person you'll ever come across which is outstandingly awe-striking.
Hye Won is truly a great woman.
Both Miss Kang and she are examples so strongest female characters I've cross across in dramas.
Noticing Mr Song's driver's face when he got stumbled by the news, said and reflected a lot.
His face screamed :
' It's all over now.
It's been piled up so high, it's gotta fall '
The writer though went for a satisfying and positive ending,
but gave us this line
' Don't think it's over
As long as I'm breathing, you'll see me again in this world.'
This is a truth none can deny.
People forget that the world doesn't end in a day.
It continues, even before you and even after you.
Tae jun resigning tells you a lot. Tells you how he's won the battle but lost the war.
To be that gracious even at the end, I'm just speechless.
He used his situation well and did the best. He knew he no longer belonged there.
That last scene had an abyss hiding.
That call from the blue house to him was a huge troll and sarcasm on the ending that the writer went for.
That ending scene was dark and profound.
And he meant there's only one thing he can do.
' One light can't lighten up the night.
Deepening darkness can sometimes only be fought with darkness.
Yet I must keep my light alive even in the dangerous darkness. '
Penetrate the darkness as he has been.
It will be bliss if they go for a season 3 coz with that ending they can.
PS: The Best drama of 2019.

The plot, the writing, the directing and editing, the entire production is fantastic. They doubled down on the backstabbing and scheming. The political intrigue wasn't as upfront as was the investigation. They prosecutors are a big part of Season 2.
The acting is superb. I mentioned in my Chief of Staff review that Shin Min Ah was so far removed from her usual type of role that I forgot it was her. I did in season 2 as well. They got a shot of those dimples and it hit me who she was. Kim Gab Soo was as mesmerizing in this as he was in season 1. He only lost in his scene stealing to Jung Woon In. Lee Jung Jae embodied his character. This was the first time I've seen him in a drama. He is wonderful.
Chief of Staff, the full series, is fantastic. Season 2 brings everything from both seasons to a satisfying close. However, they leave you hoping you may see some of the characters again. It's like a great book that you couldn't put down for a while even after you've finished.

Improved Story, Dialogue seems to be repetitive
Chief of Staff 2 succeeds in having a greater story compared to it's first season, but it's enjoyment becomes a little weakened due to repetitive dialogue that eventually becomes tiresome. The story connects greatly from the first season and answers many questions viewers may have had after the final episode of the first season, along with many twists and turns to keep the viewer on the edge of their seats (some twists and turns were predictable, but others really weren't, which I really enjoyed). One thing I love about both seasons of Chief of Staff and Chief of Staff 2 respectively is the realism in their story, alongside greatly built characters and character development.Even though it was ten episodes, some episodes, like in the first season, did feel quite slow, and that's the reason why the re-watch value may be a little low here, but I still recommend people to check this series out, especially if you enjoy dramas in the politics genre etc. Acting was again great, although the tiniest bit weaker compared to it's first season in my eyes, but nothing of a major difference so don't worry! OST was also amazing, so no complaints about that. All in all, again, a decent watch.

The drama that makes you question what's around you
First of all the start of this season started of with a strong starting point as I was shocked with the sudden death of gu seok man. The writer did a good job here by making the watcher, once again feel angry seeing how innocent people suffer because of people in power. This starting point made me question who was involved in the death and you feel satisfaction watching the drama unravel what happened. I enjoyed the ending as I though it was quite realistic for example was mr song said you'll see me again which highlights how people in power can bounce back from hindrances in life. It also presented how stubborn and arrogant mr song was because of the way he was so sure that he will meet tae jun and destroy his life. With some political dramas i get confused about what is happeningbut with this one i didn't. Somehow i managed to understand all the storyline links in the drama right till the end. With tae jun being asked to come to the blue house along with the new beginnings of the side characters i do wish there could be a season 3 as it would be interesting to see how tae jun will make the world a better place. I loved the women in this drama and how they subtly touched on sexism in the workplace throughoutthe seasons. There where many aspects if this drama i enjoyed. I would say however, that repetitions if some scenes did annoy me as they seemed out of place but apart from that i would recommendthis to someone that well enjoys politics and mature dramas ofcourse but also someone who wants to watch a drama that is not in a rush as you still enjoy this without having to binge. Overall, one thing this drama did was made me think about how much of this happens in real life. Like what has been purposefully released to the media, what's been hidden and buried, how they are controlling public sentiment and opinion......Was this review helpful to you?
On the verge of meh-ness...
Although it's politically themed drama but it's a watered-down surface-level politics and the excessive overdramatization didn't fit its theme. Repeating the exact same dramatic flashbacks multiple times throughout both seasons further highlights my point. It ended up relying on these melo moments rather than having a better written political drama and a more engaging dialogues as you would expect from a good political drama to have. What also didn't fit its theme is the male lead constant overreacting and overacting for his role. The romance of the main leads and the pair up of the secondary leads were all out of place. On the other hand, the OST was nice, it reminded me of Comrades (2010). The drama is okay if it was your first political drama, can serve as an easy introduction to the genre. Was this review helpful to you?
