Well i love this drama so much that i have to sign in just becuz i want to put my comment/review... haha.. i love the comedy.. the superb chemistry between the king&queen ..not forgetting all the supporting role.. the story with ups and down.. make me laugh/cry/angry and sad.. even make me google who is cheoljong and cheorin.. the power hungry kim clan.. every episode end leaves me excited for the next one ..the storyline went not too fast and not to slow.. i love the part when the king started to have deeper feeling for the queen...(u can see from the way he look at her) and how the queen have tought the kings things from the future and gamble all in for him .. despite knowing the history...
**i lol in the train watching the queen serve them macdunaldu..
Anyway.. i know its happy ending and all .. with those corrupted being punished..etc etc.. however i dont know.. i seem to feel not very satisfied with it..I kinda agree with some of the review here...
Yeah... in the bamboo forest series they show that they seem to fall in love at first sight.. and that in the meteor rain night.. they did make their wish.. with sobong wishing to come back to his body .. sigh.. the series make me wonder .. will there be season 2?.. but with their reincarnation? Hahaha.. ehem.. hello writer *wink* wink.. plis?!

Kudos and thank you to the entire cast/director/writer/crew for this awesome drama..and I hope they win award for this..

Its gonna take sometime for me to move on.. gonna rewatch this till i dont want anymore.. sigh

caught me off guard because of HOW GOOD IT WAS?

wow. firstly i just wanna say im usually not a big fan of the comedy genre because most of them make me feel like im forcing myself to laugh? they don’t really get genuine laughs out of me so the com genre isn’t really something im a HUGE fan of. BUT THIS! this kdrama literally got the most genuine laughs out of me, it truly lived up to its name and was one of the best comedic dramas i’ve watched.

ALSO, can i just appreciate the osts mr queen gave us??? THE OSTS YOU GUYS. the osts literally fit so amazingly like a puzzle piece and gave me all the feelings it was meant to give truly.

THE PLOT. genuinely one of the most interesting storylines i’ve watched and had me hooked from the first episode already. the pace, the acting, the story, the EVERYTHING. big applause to all the people who worked on this drama because oh my god it is a masterpiece. this drama came out 3 years ago and i only watched it just now in 2023 because honestly i wasn’t expecting much from it (my fault tbfh) i knew about this drama but i never felt the PULL to watch it. but recently i was just browsing through my netflix and came upon it and decided to watch it. holy moly was i wrong. made me wonder HOW AND WHY i didn’t watch it earlier. I WAS MISSING OUT.

also no spoilers but i just wanna say of course the actors did a FABULOUS job throughout the WHOLE drama BUT the last episode really had me gripping ny seat tightly because i was in TRANCE. they really just took it up a notch and gave us everything we needed. and im talking about ALL THE ACTORS. the main leads were just whew. i don’t even have words for the main leads because of how GREAT they did especially in the last episode but OVERALL EVERY SINGLE CHARACTER had me on a rollercoaster in the very last episode and they really just poured it all out and slayed it.

Anyway, the point is: WATCH IT IF YOU HAVEN’T! listen, i was someone who thought this would be just one of the basic historical rom-com drama with a basic storyline.. BUT NO. IT IS BEYOND THAT YOU GUYS. you have to watch it TRUST ME. YOU HAVE TO

Hilariously good!

I had my doubts when I read the premise - a man in a woman's body sounded odd. However, I'm so glad I watched this!
Most dramas let go of their comic sequences once they get to the more serious plot points - this drama kept cracking me up throughout. I didn't want it to end!
The acting is brilliant - Mr Queen & King Cheol Jong, alongwith the supporting cast - fit so aptly in their role. I loved seeing how they embodied all the different emotions of their character, alongside a healthy dose of humour. The ML surprised me the most - I didn't expect to like him as much. His reactions to the queen's antics are phenomenally done!

I can see myself coming back to this drama, time and again, whenever I need to lift my spirits.

--spoiler ahead--
I have to say: I severely missed bong hwan in the ending - I wished that he would return to the king but he didn't. "The thought of both Bong-hwan and Cheol-jong going through life with a gaping whole in their hearts longing for something they will never have again just kills me." - this feels extremely unfair to cheol jong & bong hwan. Even though they're played by the same actress, I wanted bong hwan to continue in joseon rather than so yong.

Are you ready to time travel and be the Queen?

It's been awhile since I watched historical dramas because it's mostly all about political power play and it's usually long and boring for the most parts so when I heard about Mr. Queen (belatedly because I don't really watch on-going dramas) the plot immediately got me interested. I was never disappointed. It was very interesting and fun and the story is not that complicated, it's straightforward and linear. There were some twists every now and then that will surprise you and I loved the story from start to finish.

Shin HyeSun might look like she's overreacting but for me I felt like her portrayal as the Queen with Jang BongHwan inside is pretty much incredible. Even without Choi JinHyuk's over voice I can still feel his character as a man trapped in the Queens body. Her portrayal of BongHwan and SoYoung is distinct that you'll know exactly who is who. Thumbs up for the great acting. It goes the same for most of the characters, their chemistry is exceptional. They are fun and bubbly. They really made me enjoy the show from start to finish.

Overall, the plot is very reasonable. I didn't feel bothered by how it ended unlike most dramas do and I really love the OST too. If you haven't seen a historical drama in a while, I really recommend this. It's a relaxing ride of fun, tears and many more.

**changed my rating from 9 to 10. After the 2nd watch, it is much much better than I used to think

Enjoy this for the funny and the chemistry between the leads.

This was such a hysterical drama to watch. Shin Hye Sun out-do's herself once again with this character. Kim Jung Hyun is the calm lead we need when the female lead can go bonkers in a good way. The humor might be for you , but the story gets interesting as the episodes go by.

Story: The story was quite interesting about a man who goes back in time was a woman. Fish out of water humor ensures. There were some plot holes , but it won't get in the way of the enjoyment of the story. The King's story was the most interesting story throughout the second half and the fish out of water humor was the interesting point through the first half. Both leads go through such a character development that by the end of the drama, you can see the difference. The ending did get me mad a little but, but overall, I did love the story.

Cast: The cast sold this story so well. I think if it was handled by any other actors (especially the main three leads), this probably wouldn't be as good as it was. Shin Hye Sun had to channel Choi Ji Hyuk's characteristics and had to make you believe that she was a man in a woman's body. She did it so well!! Kim Jung Hyun shinned more in the second half and the dramatic moments he owned so well! The conflict he had to go through was visceral watch for me (Time 2018 drama flashback). Shin Hye Sun also shinned in the dramatic moments as well. There were some tense moments between our King and Queen, and they owned the floor both together and individually. The two seconds leads, I feel ,were only there to create a rift between the leads to be honest. There wasn't as much character development as the leads and I did find the second male lead annoying at times. But the seconds did a good job of having me root for the leads even more. My favorite supporting characters were Lady Choi and the female lead's maid. They were such funny characters and really did care for the queen for who she was and would do anything to make sure she was safe. Also, the romantic chemistry between Shin Hye Sun and Kim Jung Hyun was also fantastic.

Music: The music was not as memorable as other dramas, but it did fit the tone of the drama well. The Bong Hwan (ending) song was the standout of this category. It fits the tone and fits Bong Hwan's character well.

Re-watch: I would rewatch this drama for Shin Hye Sun and Kim Jung Hyun's comedic and romantic chemistry. This would a watch if you had a bad day or needing to laugh out loud.

Overall, if you are into the humor type, the actors or time travel shows, you should give this a try. Don't miss out Shin Hye Sun's multi-layered performance and Kim Jung Hyun humor and dramatic performance.

Loved till 19th episode

Loved it so much (until 19th episode mostly, will get to that later) it had everything i like, costume drama, comedy, romance, transmigration done right. From day one jung bong hwan as soyong was hilarious and every drama he caused was just so entertaining. Jo hwa jin taking his flirting as threats was so amusing. But everything got more interesting when the romance started and sobong (jung bong hwan as soyong) starts taking everything seriously and really get involved in the palace intrigue. Him trying to resist falling for cheoljjong but eventually just falling in love was ?❤️
the kings brother was so annoying to me for entirety of the drama except for when he was shown having feelings for jo hwa jin then he became interesting.
i can't recall names but almost all the characters were serving some purposes and participated in plot development which i liked very much.

hongyeon and lady choi my loves, it saddens me them saying bye just before sobong went to the palace with cheoljjong was actually a goodbye goodbye but they've no idea ugh

Now to more of a rant... i just had to review publicly the ending annoyed me so much in my mind jung bong hwan stays idc he's the real love of cheoljjong's life... saw some comments say there were glimpses of soyong too when cj fell in love, ig they watched a different show than me cause WHERE? sobong got soyong's memory & maybe embroidery skills but he absolutely didn't have any of her personality or mannerism her memories helped him get clearer pictures about palace residents but not for one moment it was soyong which is why the ending is just meh to me. if they were going to try to sell us soyong and jung bong hwan were interchangeable maybe they should've been more similar or we should've seen more of soyong.

anyways kim byung in redemption was very meh and annoying too.

they could've at least given me cheoljjong reincarnating and jung bong meeting him at the end idk

You know, I'm not a big fan of historical theme dramas. I tend to skip them but I just happen to saw clips of this drama on instagram and what do you know, I was LOL at every clip I watched and that's how I ended up giving this drama a chance and I enjoyed it.

It's a very comedic drama. Though it has the historical theme, it doesn't follow the traditional historical aspects for the most part because of the female lead as a sassy Mr. Queen from the 21st century. It's 20 episodes so when you start watching the first several episodes, you kind of don't have a sense of direction of where the story is going. Probably because there's just so much goofiness happening. Eventually, the plot will reveal to itself and you begin to catch on where this drama is going to go. Kept it's comedy from start to finish.

Let's talk about some characters. The randomness of the Kim Hwan is so funny and yet bizarre to me. What purpose did he actually serve in this drama other than giving us good laughs? It seems like he was just put in there to make us laugh. Then you had Kim Byung In who I just can't read at all. Was he bad? I mean he acted evil but then he keeps changing his viewpoint and position. I just didn't understand his character. But at the end of the day, if I had to care about support characters, it would be Lady Choi & Hong Yeon. I just love the evolution of their friendship with Mr. Queen, from being just concern servants to ending up being great friends, relying on each other.

The downsides for me is we never really got to see the real So Yong. Mr Queen pretty much took over her life for all 19 episodes. Then So Yong shows up in the last episode. Sure we saw her backstory and pain but when that character didn't appear for the most part, you just don't have that connection with her compared to the connection we had with Mr Queen. It would've been great and funny to see Mr. Queen fighting with So Yong verbally to each other, like split personalities occurring at that moment, instead of Mr. Queen just talking to himself. And of course, our secondary and third couple progression didn't occur much as I would've liked. I mean, I only wanted more for them because there were hints shown that these 2 couples should've been together.

Overall, I actually like this historical theme drama. Probably the first historical theme drama I enjoyed and thought it was written well for the most part.

One of the best korean rom/com period dramas I've watched

Came across this on mydramalist and decided to give this drama try when I saw the high rating on it. So when I did, I am so glad I did give this drama a chance because it is one of the most hilarious and interest period korean dramas I've seen!

The story was quite different and unique than usual period dramas. I don't recall watching any dramas that have a storyline of a man from the future possessing a WOMAN's body from the past during the Joseon era. It's especially funny how this drama included sexual humor in scenes. As far as I remember, not a lot of kdramas do this so I was surprised how accepted it was in this drama. But it was super hilarious, especially when they have to bleep it out as characters were explaining inappropriate "things" LOL.

The actors/actresses definitely played their role well. I have to give Hye Sun (playing as the Queen Kim So Yong) major compliments on her acting. Being able to play 2 different characters and even splendid acting on chaotic scenes where her character is freaking out like a psychopath and acting like a casanova while also playing a humble, quiet girl is not something you'd expect to see in a lot of female characters. The chemistry between the main couple was really good too. Their bickering , sweet, and erotic moments were just all hilarious and cute to me that I just couldn't get enough of them!

As I've seen in some comments about the ending, I am 50/50 on it. I was satisfied with how everything ended smoothly and that the main couple stayed together in the end. However, the fact that it was mainly Bong Hwan in So Yong's body throughout this entire time and the fact that Cheoljong technically fell in love with Bong Hwan was what bothered me a bit. Because prior to Bong Hwan possessing her body, Cheoljong hated So Yong. But when Bong Hwan took over, Cheoljong started to take notice in "So Yong" with her arrogant, loud, kinda crazy personality and eventually fell in love with her.

However, in my perspective/understanding of this drama, even though Bong Hwan was in So Yong's body, there was still a part of the real So Yong that is shown throughout the drama. Like a mix of both characters' personalities taking over So Yong's body. Because I remember how Bong Hwan would be yelling at So Yong that's inside her body for doing some actions that he did not want to do (ex: in ep 9 when Cheoljong and BongHwan/Soyong were about to do "it" haha) and Cheljong was just staring in confusion. So I feel as if Cheoljong, either way, did fall for So Yong and Bong Hwan I guess? lol. Idk that's just my understanding of this it could be different for everyone.

The love triangle between So Yong, Cheoljong, and Byung In was really sad. Although I was a So Yong/Cheljong ship, I felt really bad for Byung In. His one-sided love for her broke my heart. And the fact that he risked his life and died to save So Yong made me cry so much (yes I legit cried). It made me heated when I saw that his body was still up in the mountain in the same position before he died. Like what! No one even went to look for his body and just left him there dead beat cold? Im glad So Yong and the others went back to properly bury him. His father is legit evil and trash for betraying his son like that for power. I lightweight wished he had a happy ending. But then again, this is a period drama, there's always gonna be at least one good person that will be sacrificed to die -_-

For Hwa Jin, I do get irritated with her character sometimes, however, I don't think I see her as an evil character in the drama. Like yeah she did some evil things to So Yong but that was all due to major misunderstandings and an act of jealousy. I mean, that's what two people usually do if you hate each other, especially if you thought one killed one of your loved ones? I've seen dramas where antagonists go to major extremes on wanting to harm the protagonist but she really just wanted So Yong out of the picture bc of the misunderstandings and her love for Cheoljong. She eventually redeemed herself in the end and they both made up after clearing the misunderstandings.

And the bond between So Yong and her maids is just ADORABLE!!! <3 Their bond was so strong like they were legit best friends. I swear I freaked out when I thought Lady Choi and Hong Yeon died bc they legit sacrificed themselves for So Yong. Even if they weren't her maids, they prob still would've done the same thing for So Yong bc of how much they cared for her. I think this is one of the pros in this drama is that they showed great relationships among all characters here.

Overall, this drama was very enjoyable and something I'd watch again even though the ending was a bit off.

Interesting plot with uninteresting end

I really love how the comedic aspect was utilized in this drama, it never felt forced and was just so naturally injected into the characters' roles - very seldom can dramas effectively incorporate comedy without it feeling randomly shoved at the viewer's face.

It was overall a fun watch, I especially enjoyed the budding romance of the king and queen (considering the male soul intermixed with the original one) and enjoyed even the interactions of the other characters, but it failed to properly wrap-up its loose ends which made episodes 18-20 a bit sloppy and disappointing. The way they ended this drama made it feel rushed and out of the blue.

Am I the only one who was disappointed?

What I enjoyed
- Bong Hwan/So Yong was by far the best part of this drama for me
- the theme song was fantastic! I found myself getting so excited whenever it started playing
- whenever the Queen was in the kitchen
- Hong Yeon and Lady in waiting Choi, I became very attached to them
- Shin Hye Sun's acting!!!

What I didn't like
- how political it became a little over half way through
- the relationship between Jo Hwa Jin and Kim So Yong. I personally am very tired of seeing two women fighting over a man. I feel like that trope is extremely overused and that something else would've been fine to use as conflict.

the first bit was my favourite. It was funny and lighthearted but around episode 11 it started to get more and more politically focused and pulled me out of the story. I found myself skipping through a lot of the political bits and am now relieved that it's over. I am really surprised that this is my reaction because I was very much anticipating this. My favourite part was definitely the Shin Hye Sun's acting. She was so good and I can't wait to check out her other works!

Get ready to ROFL!

It's THAT funny. At first, I didn't wanna watch this as I was worried that it might be too goofy or nothing special

Turns out, I really LIKED it! It's SO funny in its own way, I mean its a modern twist to a period drama. Also, I really love the acting of both the ML and FL, especially the FL.

It's one of those dramas where the FL is not irritating lol....

It's the kind of show where you can rewatch again, have a good laugh, and also of course, there are beautiful sweet romance alongside with it!
