Beyond Extraordinary

This has been one of the most enjoyable dramas I have seen. I congratulate the writer, actors and production staff for the way in which they brought to life our trails, tribulations, anxieties and emotions of everyday living, In our lives when we have not so good days, this would be a drama to watch. Although I enjoyed all the characters, they couldn't have picked better main actors than Seo In-Guk and Park Bo -Young. Seo In-Guk's eyes portrayed so many emotions without saying any words and Park Bo-Young's emotions came through on her whole face without words needing to be said and the chemistry between them was fantastic. There are so many aspects of this drama that we, as humans, should pay attention to and I can't fathom why anyone would not enjoy this drama even if they only watched a short number of episodes. This is definitely a "must watch again" drama for me.

Hit or Miss for some

Behold what may be the most polarizing 2021 k-drama! Doom at Your Service (DAYS) brings us a new fictional character in drama land: cold and charming Myul Mang, and his pairing of probably the most tragic character setup of all time.

I will admit DAYS has been a rocky watching, with some aspects of the plotline more gripping than the other. At times you're left wondering "Why? Why did so-and-so make that decision?" Not to complicate the matter, the contract is very vague in the beginning, and if you aren't paying attention, it's very easy to miss over and skip important details, leaving you utterly confused. Also the second lead love triangle didn't really do much for me, although it provided a nice contrast from the deep emotional scenes that our OTP face towards the end.

Gripes aside, I really had a soft spot for this drama- SIG and PBY are two of my favorites, and they definitely helped this drama move through. As unfortunate as the ratings for this drama were domestically, internationally it was immensely popular, and that may have lead to its controversial sidings- this is NOT a Goblin 2.0. The drama explores what it means to be human, the imminent threat of death, and so much more. It manages to balance somber and dark themes with light and comical interactions, which was something I appreciated.

The OSTs did wonders in portraying our OTP's feelings towards another- it amplified whatever was happening on the screen and made it memorable for the viewer. Personal favorites: (ALL) hee

Overall, you may love this drama, you may like it, you may find it meh, or you may find it the worst thing you've ever seen. DAYS is more enjoyable if you watch it without scrutinizing all the details. >>> my score is inflated .5 because of personal bias, but it would be a 9 if I knew none of the cast.

quite a good watch, imo

Not gonna life, I'm quite baffled with all the reviews because I genuinely enjoyed this drama, but I do get why. I'm going to start with the plot which was decent and wasn't anything phenomenal. I'm personally not one to enjoy so much romantic scenes in a drama but I should say, the leads were not at all cringy for me. That's a huge plus in my book because I tend to be one that cringes way too easily for my liking. There weren't any immaturity from the leads and I just liked both characters. I got all giddy and excited watching kilig (very heart-fluttering) scenes which usually rarely happens to me when I watch rom-coms.

The OSTs were amazing, and one of the biggest pros in this drama. That's really all I can say, go listen to the entire OST list.

Some of the things that I'd say for the downsides of this drama would be the lack of character arc, repetitiveness, and some of questions I was never fully able to answer. Firstly, I didn't see a lot of growth from our main leads at all. Maybe the side leads such as the brother and the two involved in the love triangle: Ji Na and Hyun Gyu. I loved their story, mainly because they showed a great transition from being stuck in each other's minds, unable to move on to future experiences, to having this very much needed closure with all that happened in the past. The repetitiveness might not be apparent at first when you get too immersed in the drama but looking back, there were a lot of scenes that could have expanded and improved to better suit the storyline. Lastly, I don't know if I just missed something or it's just pure curiosity at this point but I kept on wondering what the relationship between Myul Mang and the girl diety is. I still don't know, but whatever, I guess.

Overall, I'd still recommend this for a cute watch. Probably not the best drama I've watched thus far but definitely an enjoyable one.

A Touching Tale of Love and Fate

This drama mixes fantasy, love, and deep thoughts about life. The story is about a woman who is very sick and calls for a magical being who represents doom. This interesting idea makes for a story that is full of feelings and makes you think a lot about life and love. The drama shows how people deal with difficult things that happen in life.

The actors in the show do a great job. They make their characters feel real and their acting is very touching. They work well together and make the story even more emotional. The show is also very pretty to watch, with lots of beautiful scenes. It has serious moments but also some funny parts, which makes it not too sad. If you like shows that make you think and have a bit of magic, Doom at Your Service is a good one to watch. It's a special story about fate and how strong people can be.

The actors in this drama are really great and their roles suited them well.

This drama was what I needed. For me, this is one of those perfect dramas. I laughed and cried while watching. I like that the characters were so different from each other and slowly started to change. The love story developed at a good pace. Drama can also make you think about what you would do if you were in the situation of fl.
This drama broke my heart into a million pieces and then glued it together. And I love it.

my opinion

man. this drama has so much potential. so so much. i was super excited on how it would turn out. but then, the ending was disappointing and boring. and plain. like ????? i had really high hopes for the storyline, and how they would solve the conflict at the end, but there was no surprise to the ending. it was just plain....blant.... like nothing fun and surprising you know? very disappointing. had much much more potential.

but on the bright side, the acting was great. i enjoyed the cute siblings-love-rivalry between park boyoung and dawon. hard to believe that this is dawon's debut drama (i think). and also nam da reum's role in this too^^ and oh god the visuals and chemistry is just >>>

i have to add this. what really kept me going was the love triangle between na ji na. cha joo ik and lee hyun kyu. if it wasnt because of them, i think i might have dropped this drama. im really really glad na ji na ends up with cha joo ik ^-^

A comforting watch with unique storyline

I enjoyed the drama greatly. It was very comforting and beautiful. However, I do agree that the second leads had more chemistry than the main leads. I was disappointed that they didn't have more screen time, as I was very interested in seeing them date. Nonetheless, the OST was incredible, and I appreciated how the main leads only had eyes for each other
Even though the pacing was slow, the story was quite uniquely handled. Overall, I am content and happy with the time I spent watching it. The ending was also very beautiful.

Lacked Good Writing, Saved by Acting

LIKES:
Beautiful Location moments like the cherry blossoms, Doom’s house and the ocean.
The music was appropriate and didn’t over power the actor/actress voices, but nothing truly remarkable.
FXs for when Doom made time stand still, etc., were well done.
I like the concept of who the Beginning Deity was.
Production was decent and same for the Editing.

DISLIKES:
Writing: No character growth for ML & FL, everyone around them had more growth. How slow the romances moved. Very basic romance; hand holding and walking around, like what we would do in grade school, before becoming teenagers). There was no romantic connection or real chemistry with any of the characters, except maybe a little between Joo Ik and Ji Na. As usual K-drama stuck to the formula of hardships make stronger relationships trope, but was used way too much to create interest and drama in a show that shouldn’t have had so many episodes.
Pacing: Sometimes the episode didn’t move forward in terms of what was happening with the Main characters, that for the second half of the episodes I used fast forward to find the other storylines.
FX: a few scenes the CGI and green screen were way too obvious.

OVERALL:
Like other reviewers have said, this had the potential to be something new and interesting, but lazy screenwriting made it fall short. The cast is start studded and I finished this solely because of Lee Soo Hyuk’s character and acting. I would watch it at least for the first half of the drama and some parts I might even watch again, but definitely not all of it. There are better dramas out there that aren’t as boring. It’s an easy watch and an okay introduction to this genre.

I was hoping for more!!!

I will be breaking this review down into three parts to describe my feelings on the drama and the reason behind my rating.

Acting:

These actors and characters made the drama for me (I was able to get through it, thanks to them):

Seo In Guk - I would definitely say the reason I even continued to watch the show after episode 6 was for the way Seo In Guk portrayed the character of "Myeol Mang". I think he performed his character well so when viewing I didn't feel that the character was lacking in anything. If there was any time that his acting wasn't strong I believe it would most likely be due to the storyline.
Dawon - I also think that Dawon as Tak Seon Kyung did a great job bringing his character to life. I first saw his acting style in Click your Heart, which was before I knew that he was a part of SF9, I thought his profession was acting instead of a K-pop singer.
Woo Hee Jin's - I always like Woo Hee Jin's portrayals of her characters for all the dramas I have seen her in which include Angel's Last Mission: Love ,Moon Lovers: Scarlet Heart Ryeo and now this. She always makes me feel like she is the character at heart.

These actors and characters made me want to quit this drama (throw in the towel):

Park Bo Young - I usually like Park Bo Young's work but this was not one of them. Her acting was great at the beginning of the drama when everything was fresh and brand new but as the drama went on, she seemed more and more disconnected from her character. I would love to blame the way the story was written because it was subpar, but it is more than that. She looked less engrossed in the character and more like she was working her day job and she was doing what she was supposed to be doing so that she could go home (which is what it really is) . I was disappointed for her sake ( thinking about it, she was probably over the stupid story just as much as I was and just had enough of it ).

Lee Soo Hyuk - OH...NO... Should I really go into detail about Lee Soo Hyuk's acting... I love his voice, his handsome face and he is a great model, but I must say when it comes to acting, he is not my cup of tea. I was literally begging through my screen to see some emotions coming from his face because there was none, nothing, nada! If his character is being cheeky, his expression and persona hits the nail on the head every time but when it comes to his portray of romantic, seductive expressions... they are much lacking. The only romantic expression I saw from him through this whole drama was in the last episode and by that time it was too late for me. I was over it.

Storyline:
I must say, I think the way the writers began the story was great! It was a new take on some of the old drama cliché's which I was looking forward to. The drama was well promoted from my viewpoint, and it had a great cast so I expected a drama I would want to rate at least 8.5/10. But as the story progressed, the small hints of a new dynamic look to this drama quickly faded away. The reason behind why things happened stop making sense to the point where I stop trying to figure out what it was supposed to be and just went with the flow. Moments that were supposed to make the story strong completely had no factor other than the realization of what was taking place. The beginning of the drama started with a dark theme that I thought was new and exciting, I was looking forward to what the writers would do to incorporate it into the romantic scenes but no… It completely disappeared, as quickly as it came. It was no where to be found throughout more than half of the drama but when it came back it was not even worth it because it was just a repeat of the first part of the storyline. I was very disappointed when they literally wasted the viewers time by just recapping the first episodes of the drama, while acting like if it was something new and fresh that actually contributed to the story because it didn’t. It was all things that were previously known to the audience, so it was a basic waste of time. I expected the drama to be an overall dark and deep story with many heart-breaking moments that would live on me for a longtime, but it was just full of romantic fluff of the most mundane nature.

Entertainment:
I think the entertainment factor is very specific to what the viewer is expecting from the drama. If you are looking for a light fluffy love story with some meaningful moments here and there than you would really like this drama. But if you are a person such as myself who came into this drama expecting a darker theme overall with a strong desperate struggle of inner turmoil of the characters with a strong impactful romantic relationship then you are going to leave a bit disappointed and cheated like I was. I would consider the re-watch value of this drama to be very low for me, given the fact that there is nothing as a viewer I feel that needs a deeper understanding, nothing that can be interpreted from a different angle, everything was pretty basic and straightforward which a lot of people may like. There was a notable comedic value to the drama which I enjoyed. Overall, I think I understand what the writer may have been going for but the execution of it became poor after the initial excitement.

I know I stand alone but I did not get the hype.

I've loved Park Bo Young since Strong Woman and this was my first drama with Seo In Guk so I was optimistic, but this show was just ugh. There was no chemistry between them and even though many k-dramas have their leads barely meet and suddenly be in love for no real reason, I feel like that was extra atrocious in this show. I finished it but only because I felt like if I didn't, I would've wasted the seven hours it took me to get halfway through it.

Maybe it's because her chemistry with Park Hyung Sik was off the charts, and so this in comparison is awful, but I don't know because I watched this BECAUSE people said it was their fave drama ever. The other reason I finished this is because I didn't want to have multiple dramas I quit (I had just quit Kill Me Heal Me because the main female lead is absolutely insufferable).

Great OST, at your service

OK, so...

~~Story~~ Interesting concept about a being that is not overused in other shows (even though most fantasy beings share the same traits such as immortality, mind-reading, etc). The fantasy elements fit right in - no need for that many visual effects. The first few episodes (1-6) are extremely binge-able as we get lots of new information and interesting interactions. Things get rather slow-paced and dramatic afterward. Even though I was expecting more emotional and memorable last 2 episodes, I still think the ending was OK and gave us a clear explanation. I presume that most viewers will feel kind of disappointed if they compare the first and the second half of the drama though, as the tone and pace of the story changes a bit. There are some confusing parts regarding the "contract", which made the overall story a bit weak IMO. Also, the second leads' story was a bit meh, not really to my taste with all that "coulda-woulda-shoulda" shenanigans. Maybe it's just a personal preference, but still. They were cute though! :D

~~Cast~~ GREAT CAST! A lot of actors I'm a fan of, and they did not disappoint. Especially the main leads <3 Unfortunately I think the script itself was weak in some of the scenes, so I'm not sure if I didn't like the acting itself, or just the dialogues, but second leads were not as convincing as the main leads, in my opinion. But overall the acting was very good/convincing!

~~Music~~ The OST is seriously one of the best parts of this drama. Very emotional and beautiful!

~~Rewatch Value~~ Well, I kind of want to rewatch the first 6 episodes, not gonna lie. The rom-com part is strong there and it's just interesting to see how the main leads fall in love. However, as the drama progresses slower in the second half, we don't get as much action, it's just the feelings sink in deeper. I guess if you like the melodrama and tears you would love to rewatch the whole thing, but it's not for me. Once I know the ending, I'm all for the rom-com/exciting parts :D

Wasted potential...really boring

It was good at first but became really boring really fast. The main couple went from decently paced to extremely slow paced. I felt like I was watching a repititon of the previous episode.
The second couple was just a mess. The reason why ji na and lee hyun broke up was because joo ik interfered... for no reason might I add (he didnt even like her then). I didnt like how joo ik ended up with ji na after finding out what he did. In present he was the better choice but dudes a whole a** homewrecker and sh*t friend.
The deity bs was just plain confusing I stopped trying to make sense of it after the "reset".
