Sweetly Sung

Sing My Crush is a sweet, breezy little drama that manages to keep a good balance of fluff with a little bit of angst and drama to keep it from being cloying. It's easily bingeable and can be completed in an afternoon and is a great de-stressor after a long day at work. I speak from experience. The characters are endearing, the plot simple, and the music divine.

The story is simple and it's simplicity is an asset considering the limited number of episodes. There are no deep dives into the characters' backgrounds, no real flashbacks, just a steady progression as the characters grow and it works. The story is overall cohesive, there are a few loose threads, the issue with Sangin doesn't feel fully resolved, for example, but nothing huge to complain about. The pacing is steady and overall well done despite a few laggy moments, but they're not enough to hold the story back too much.

The characters aren't overly complicated; on the surface, they're fairly transparent.
-Han Ba Ram is a sweetheart who, after being burned by love, is a bit hesitant to confess again. Being gay also complicates the matter and elevates his fear, so he keeps it a secret and continues living with the man he loves until his first love re-enters his life and complicates things. There's an element of frustration with him, the feeling that wouldn't it be better to just confess and get rid of the proverbial sword hanging over his head. But, having been in his shoes, I can also understand how incredibly difficult it is to confess, especially when you're afraid of ruining the friendship that you have. I was impressed with the character growth seen in such a short period of time. You can really see his confidence grow both in his music and as a person.
-Im Han Tae has to be one of the most dense characters I've seen. I truly thought he was already in love with Ba Ram up until Ba Ram confessed and he was totally clueless. His actions and behaviour afterward left me alternately laughing in exasperation and wanting to bash my head against the wall. It's a good thing he's cute. Nevertheless, I appreciated his loyalty and steadfastness when it came to Ba Ram and even when he wasn't 100% certain of his feelings, he still took care of and protected him.
-Sangin annoyed me from the get go and just got worse from there. He was far too handsy for any kind of reputable teacher and the way he baited Ba Ram into trying to kiss him to prove his love was disconcerting. Coming back after the fact and trying to steal Ba Ram's song was the cherry on top. I found it disappointing that he never once took responsibility for his actions, but continued to blame Ba Ram till the end. As a side note, he seemed too old be debuting, not that I'm any kind of expert on that and frankly I think expanding the age range would be great, but realistically, I didn't buy it.
-While they didn't play huge roles within the story, I liked Young Mi and Jeong Pal. They were cute as a couple, but I also liked their friendship and dynamic with Ba Ram and Han Tae.

The acting was good all around. Do Yoon and Hyun Woo had good chemistry. Even their first kiss, which I would normally consider a dead fish lip press, actually worked for them. It was hesitant and sweet and felt realistic for a first tentative kiss. They just seemed very comfortable around each other and I liked them together. I felt both actors did their character's justice.

I loved the music. Both "Letter of Apology" and "Second Wind" are beautiful songs. "Letter of Apology" was utilized throughout the run but it was done in such a way that I didn't get tired of it or feel that it was overplayed. The rest of the music was pretty generic but those two definitely stood out.

This is not a deep drama, it's too short to delve into any kind of real issues, and again they were smart to keep it simple. But simple doesn't mean without it's merits and it does touch on elements like having confidence in yourself, growing as a person, and pursuing what you love. I found it to be an enjoyable diversion for an afternoon and one that I would recommend and will likely come back to in the future.

Adorable story about crushes, love, and heartbreak

I loved how sweet and fluffy the whole thing was. It’s kind of a coming-of-age series, following a story of a young hopeful who faces an unrequited crush(es), heartbreak, love, failure and success. So pretty much everything one would imagine someone of that age going through.

The plot was interesting, the cinematography was beautiful, the OST was catchy… It had a lot of positives and I enjoyed watching it. There were a few plot holes in the end, they were not addressed or rounded out in a clear manner in the end. I wish we would have gotten a more solid closure on those, instead of them just disappearing with no explanation of how they were actually dealt with. As well as the fact that certain things didn’t necessary make sense (even if they were crystal clear) just to push conflict into the story.

Im Han Tae & Han Ba Ram: the two are so adorable together! I found their relationship development sweet; it didn’t feel rushed. We follow Ba Ram as he navigates through his crush, heartbreak and falling in love with his best friend. It shows that he is wary of saying out loud that he likes men or that he likes his friend, which is understandable after his first experience. Han Tae is like an overgrown puppy. He absolutely adores Ba Ram and is doing everything he can to be around him. He is loyal and protective. I do think they make a cute couple. And while the chemistry between the actors were good, I was annoyed by the fact that their kiss was… well not a kiss, but just lips pressed together. At least the dream kiss was better.

The other two members of the band were amazing! I loved how supportive they were of their friends. And I am still convinced that the two knew there was something more brewing between Han Tae and Ba Ram but decided not to say anything and let the two come clean on their time and terms. Which was nice of them.

As for Sangin, Ba Ram’s guitar teacher and unrequited crush, I don’t think he deserves the attention. I do wish the plotline relating to him would have gotten a better conclusion. Not just relationship wise, but everything else that was included.

A series that makes you an instant diabetic patient!!!

(Didn't expect that I'll be watching a love story of a Corgi and a Cat lol)

I was hesitant whether to watch it or not, even I almost forgot about this. Thanks to my ever-changing mood that I didn't ignored it and binge watched it in one go. I'm just left with the sweet aftertaste. These two pouty boys are damn cute and well versed actors. Their chemistry was deeper than black hole. They made me believe that they're not acting but is a real couple. I will definitely check out their future projects! ?

And don't let me start with the OSTs...damn those were beautiful! I'm on my way to download them

Absolutely Awesome! 10/10

This series was absolutely awesome! It had a very good well paced storyline that takes the viewer on a real rollercoaster of emotions because this series had everything in it.

It had first love, rejection, a cruel selfish jerk character, sadness, angst, a true hero character with a heart of gold, happy cute, sweet, funny scenes, misunderstandings, reuniting characters, finding true love, good side characters, overall healthy relationships & a great cast especially Jang Do Yoon & Son Hyun Woo who played their parts exceptionally well because their chemistry was fantastic & off the charts! I really hope these two get to do more projects together in the future because they were so natural & really comfortable with each other which really showed, making their chemistry together even more great.

All the songs sung by Jang Do Yoon were amazing & very touching & fit in very well with the storyline & scenes especially the very last song he sung because that whole scene was just........ well you need to watch it & find out for yourself!

Overall I really enjoyed this series which is why I felt compelled to write a review on here & why I have also added it not just to my favourite's list but to my rewatch list too.

Kudos to everyone who was involved in this very enjoyable series. A very well earned 10/10.

A cozy little story with natural chemistry

Yes you should watch this drama. It’s been a minute since I sat and binged watched a whole ass drama while smiling and kicking my feet and giggling.
There was some parts where I wanted to punch my screen because the actors were playing their role too well but for the majority I was just vibing with the show.
I don’t understand why I saw some people complain about the main leads not having chemistry? This is one of the more natural dramas I’ve watched with great amazing chemistry. Anyways it’s a quick watch that will make you feel warm and cozy so watch it!!!

:)

i try not to rate series ambitiously high, but this one really deserves this. i had just finished binge watching this with my sister. i’ve heard a lot of hype about it, so i went into it with high standards. plus, it was made by the same person who made blueming, so i had a feeling it was going to be good.
but can i say, this series isn’t anything what i was expecting it to be.
i went into this partially blind— i didn’t really know what the plot was, i just knew it was something about music. that was all.
usually when i watch series, i commentate and make jokes about it the entire time. that’s just something i’ve always done. but with this series, it kept me so captivated that i was literally silent the entire time. that never happens.
after watching the second episode, i just knew this show was going to change everything for me.
i have watched a lot of bl series. i’ve seen a lot of different pairings together, and i’ve witnessed many types of chemistry. but in my time, i’ve never seen chemistry like this. i cant even explain it, these two actors had such extraordinary chemistry.
i really loved this story so much. the slowburn, the pining, the angst, i loved it so much.
the plot itself was very refreshing. it wasn’t some basic repetitive plot i’ve seen sometimes, but that usually doesn’t happen in korean bl’s. at least in the ones i’ve seen.
the way hantae loved baram was honestly soul crushing to me. he cherished him so much, and took care of him so well. their relationship before they got together was something seriously so special to me. even after they got together, they were still so beautiful.
i usually don’t rate ost’s that high, because i don’t like them most of the time. but i cannot say the same thing for this series.
every time baram would sing “letter of apology”, it felt like my heart was going to burst. he has such an amazing voice, and the emotions poured out of him every time.
i feel like the emotions in this show were so surreal, i was able to feel everything that baram felt. from the heartbreak from his first love, to the pain he felt from loving somebody he thought he couldn’t have. he’s a very relatable character, and doyoon portrayed him perfectly.
it’s just the way that hantae was so dedicated to baram, the way he would do absolutely anything for him. it really made my heart turn.
this show quickly took the spot as my #1 favorite korean bl series. i was speechless the entire show, for every moment.
the cinematography was beautiful too. everything was shot so beautifully.
the pacing was amazing too. it wasn’t rushed and it wasn’t slow, it just went on like a movie. it felt like a movie.
i liked that there wasn’t any unnecessary drama either. it’s not uncommon for there to be stupid misconceptions and misunderstandings between the characters. it’s nice to see that in this show, when there is angst between the two characters, there was a solid reason behind it.
i understand baram completely. if i confessed to my best friend, but felt he didn’t feel the same way, i would also want to completely isolate myself from him. even if he was accepting of the confession, i just don’t think i’d be able to handle that. especially with how close the two were.
i’m having a hard time writing a good detailed review, because to me, this series was complete perfection, i’m finding it hard to get all of my thoughts and feelings out.
this was really such a beautiful show. i don’t think the reviews on this does it justice at all. if you want to watch a series with a good story, then watch this. this definitely changed my expectations in the korean bl industry.

Healthy BL couple + Very Well-Done!

Healthy BL couple!

I love how the ending ties back to the beginning of the story! Such a neat wrap-up.

Love how compact and not draggy it's. I was initially worried that it's too short and would leave it dangling.

Instead, it is very well done, even better than some of the longer series that tends to get unnecesssary complex or messy

It's a great "feel good" watch for days when u want sth easy, lighthearted, and heartwarming. It's also inspiring in its own way too!

Loved it (with a caveat)

I honestly wasn't expecting much from this series. I usually accept that these kinds of series are going to be a 7 out of 10 at max, and move on afterwards.
However, I really enjoyed this series. It's not perfect, but it's one of the most enjoyable out of the last few ones I've watched.

The leads have good chemistry, and they both look considerably younger than their actual age (27?? Literally how?), which makes it easier to believe that they are young and inexperienced. Their scenes together are adorable and carry most of the series. If they weren't there, consider 80% of the rating gone.
I also love that we got a decent kiss. Their first kiss is fine, but very kdrama-esque (as in, it's short, tight-lipped, and a little stiff) - the second one is great. Good job on that front.

The music was also a pleasant surprise. The first song specifically was really good, and even though we hear it multiple times throughout the series, I didn't get tired of it. The last song was also okay, albeit maybe not as memorable.

The production is great. The shots are really pleasant to watch, the color grading is immaculate, and their clothes tend to match their surroundings. It's just really aesthetic and visually appealing.

I think the weak point of the series is the story. At times it felt too dramatic and the characters weren't communicating properly, which was very frustrating. The main couple had like four big fights with the respective make-up scenes, which got a little too repetitive for me - Just talk to each other?? It's not that hard??
I also disliked the teacher the second I saw him, personally I thought he was attracted to Han Baram because of how touchy-feely he was acting with him. It made me uncomfortable, considering that the actor that plays him looks much older than the other two. And then he had the audacity to act surprised when Han Baram developed a crush on him? Like, be ffr, you were all over him a second ago.

Overall, I would for sure recommend this series. It's cute and (relatively) light.

Hidden gems! the story is really interesting!

This is one of the sweetest bl drama.(in my opinion) the story itself is so refreshing....I like the flow of the story.....I mean it's so short like only 8 episode but it's not rushed.....the Story flows not to fast but also not too slow...I really hate that guitar Trainor guy.....his at fault but he's the one who's more confident TILL THE END....im glad that he take it back.....that scum Doesn't deserve baram's love at all....ahhh I'm really angry I'm so sorry....but in the other hand...hantae.....ahhh he's literally a walking green flag! I love how clingy he is and so fun to hangout..and also the song!!! it's so good really deserve to be on my playlist.....also baram makes me cry all the time . I can feel his pain and struggles . Really good acting and script...as in really really good....it was worth paying for the premium subscription. It was warm and fluffy. they are adorable!!! Much much love to this adorable series....I demand season 2 please!!!

A warm spring wind

Sing My Crush is just pure sweetness and warmth. It's like watching a beautiful friendship slowly grow into something even more beautiful, and trust me, it's all good vibes, a tottaly green flag!
What's so cool about this drama is how the characters are there for each other. I know it might sound a bit cheesy, but it felt like spring in my heart, you know, with love blossoming in the air. The chemistry between the main characters is off the charts, the script is on point, and the music? Well, let's just say it adds that extra magic.
I absolutely recommend "Sing My Crush." If you want something heartwarming and genuinely feel-good, this is it!

Hidden Light Drama

I didnt hear nor read anything about this series and just happen to ckme across it in iQIYI.
First off, it has a cute & charming casts. The story plot is charmjng, stable and consistent. Its short 8 episodes that can be a weekend night binge. The cast were good in portraying their roles and if there is anything that viewers might notice, it'll be extras on the background here and there looking awkward. Wardrobe was also slightly off. Aside from those, its a relaxing series to watch.
Keep in mind that they concised the story so a lot of background stories were left out like how they ended up living together-this was pretty much explained in one sentence. First lead's family background is totally missing. Friend who is part of their band owns a bar but story added scenes of having to have a place for band practice which left me questioning it. ? overall it is a good one to watch.
