the dream husband is getting married

I really enjoyed the first season of this show and understand it is not everyones cup of tea. Cutie Pie to you is a bite-sized drama to watch after the first season. It takes away all those traits you hate from the second season and sums it up into all the fluff and just a bit of angst that makes this watching experience more sweet than sour.

I am a fan of Zee and have been since his first drama, and man watching this makes me so happy for him. Zee is living the dream truly, his job is to act besides NuNew... NuNew is not only adorable, he is a rookie actor and has a calming voice and I can't hate him or his character. He stands as the cutest lead in BL for me, he can do no wrong.

Lian and Kuea are getting married and preparing but there are obstacles. In the end I know love will win and I am here for all of it. I can't really complain about a drama made for the fans that is giving us more of what we love. The only downside is that I feel that I am watching on some actual intimate moments between Zee and Nunew because they are a couple. Zee is so down bad for him, whenever he is in a scene with Nunew I sit there and thing "man, this guy is really good at acting". Whenever Zee looks at Nunuew he REALLY looks like he is in love, so that is why I must remind himself that he is. Lian is too good to be true, so that might be a sore spot. Lian is an actual perfect husband, through and through just watch the show. Lian wears suits all the time, he is so in love, he is a thriving man and I love to see it

I am anticipating their new drama to see the different roles they can do. Zee and Nunew can act in love but can they do the whole enemy to lover? I will wait anxiously to see. So far this drama Zee is so down bad in every way and I can't blame him.

I get the complaints about this being pointless. What were you people expecting from a special? It was created for them to get married and had the fluff that I desire so much. Again I will never complain for a series made for the fans, it didn’t waste my time. This drama isn’t anything amazing but it’s not offensive- it did it’s job and that’s why I rated it averagely.

A Happy Ending but A UNnecessary one

This special episode was focused on their wedding day but where is the story? What was the purpose of dragging it for 4 episodes when everything could have been done in 1 episode? I personally feel that it was a stupid special episode. I don't mean it was really bad but I feel like it was unnecessary. I know the whole original story is about their marriage but wouldn't it be better if they had shown it in the original story.

To be honest from the first episode of this special I didn't like the concept. Well definitely it's good to see them after graduation but there were so many unnecessary things. Can't we just have some happy moments that would actually make sense without any third person interference. They wanna get married so just focus on that. And even after so many days spending time together can't Kuea trust Lian? Communication is really important for a relationship to be successful. That was kinda disappointed. The happy ending didn't feel like a happy ending but more felt like a force happy ending. Marriage isn't the happy ever after of a relationship. Why they had to rush their marriage like this? Is it really all about facing difficulty and solving it together? It's really old theme for 2023.

Comedy scenes were robbed from us with NC scenes. Like there should be a proper balance of this thing but there wasn't. It's a drama special of a rom com drama. So it should be like a rom com. Last episodes product placement took a lot of time which made me uninterested in the last part and I end up skipping most of the scenes. I think everyone acting was okay but Khondiao's acting sucks.

On the other hand the supporting characters saved this drama for me. Syn Nuer supporting each other and making their relationship better was wholesome. Foei steal the show again. He did a lot of hard work to make their wedding success. He definitely deserves a virtual hug.

Well that's all. It was my personal opinion. While watching Cutie Pie the series I used to feel excited whenever the new episodes would air. I used to wait for the upcoming episodes but for this special one I didn't feel the same. For it was a disappointed. They could focus on their wedding with a better plot. It was overall good but definitely a big no for me. If you enjoyed the drama you can give it a try cause who knows you might like it.

fans of Cutie Pie will like Cutie Pie 2 You

Overall: I think that fans of the first season will enjoy this second season/special (4 episodes about 50 minutes each). Aired on YouTube. My review of Cutie Pie is here https://mydramalist.com/profile/blcompilations/reviews/193979/

Content Warning: non con touching

What I Liked
- supportive friendships between characters especially Kuea and Nuer
- Lian's assistant Foei
- consent issues brought up*
- the intimate scenes, no dead fish lip presses during them
- sweet moments
- production value
- neutral, there are some comedy sound effects

Room For Improvement
- *this franchise does like 50% of consent really well and 50% poorly, Lian telling Kuea he wouldn't go further due to Kuea being drunk was good (though Kuea didn't look drunk until afterwards and it felt a bit like taking away his agency) but did Lian forget what he did in the first season? Also, why did Kuea have to apologize to his harasser, wth???
- all three couples (Kuea and Lian the most) do not feel like they've been in romantic relationships for a year, they feel like middle schoolers who just started dating, why do you need to ask a long term partner to kiss them, because it was in public? Wouldn't they know their partner's PDA preferences by then??? I feel that they never actually talk to their romantic partners.
- Kuea's repeated reluctance with Lian
- still has the dynamic with two couples of a controlling parental-type and shy/obedient child rather than an equal partner dynamic
- annoyed they went for comedy during Nuer/Syn's scene, that could have been a really lovely intimate scene
- some scenes jumped a bit or were not clear
- the obvious product placement in the final episode
- not a fan of the flash forward at the beginning and then going back to show what happened leading up to it, also annoyed that Lian would do that a second time, doing that in public can actually be kind of manipulative because a person might feel pressured to answer a certain way

For the CutiePie Lovers ONLY

This was seriously for the Cutiepie die-hard fans and them only. Because there was pretty much no story, but there were plenty of people kissing and getting naked so you have that.

Let's Dive In.

I didn't start watching this with any high expectations or anything (because I wasn't very impressed with the first season either) but just the little expectation I had was let down. For one, I was hoping for more between Diao and Yi, which we get very little of. I'd say the only real couple that had okay development was Nuer and Syn (and a really patient nc scene that was top-notch content).

My feelings for Nuea and Kilen were half and half last season, and I think it's the same here, but maybe a bit more hate. Their dynamic feels like a father and son dynamic, and I absolutely hate it. Kuea gets treated like a kid who can't take care of himself and Kilen is just the rich daddy who gets him what he wants and kisses him at night. And no, this doesn't scream 'sugar daddy' it screams 'he's acting like my real daddy'.

All the NC scenes are as good as they were last season (although, I will say that Kuea and Kilen's NC scene after their wedding was kind of anticlimactic). This sequel was really just some fanservice and spa ad placement. I'm the kind of person that likes some plot even with a raunchy series and only 4 episodes. But this is good if that's all you're coming to watch for -- skinship and no plot.

Some perks I did like: we saw Perth (Jay) and I love him so freaking much. I really hope he gets his own series one of these days. Foei!! I love him, he's THE best character in this entire series. If he wasn't in this sequel, I honestly don't know what I would do (the thighs on that man?? oh my god?). Again, they had beautiful settings and locations like last season, with an incredible budget. Same with the cinematography. I love that Japanese-feel you get when watching.

Rating:

Story: 4.5/10 - pretty empty. It's a lot of wedding junk and a few sentimental conversations. I'm purposefully giving it a lower score just cause I wanted more Yi and Nuea.

Acting: 8/10 - it's good. Zee's character comes off blander in this series, but that's not him, that's the directing.

Music: 5/10 - It wasn't distracting, but I didn't pay it any attention.

Recommendation Value: 2.5/10 - Really only watch this because you LOVED cutiepie, otherwise, it's nothing special.

Such an improvement over S1

I hated Cutie Pie S1. The only part I liked was NuerSyn, and they’re the reason I decided to watch S2 as I wanted to see more of them. I’m happy to say I really enjoyed all 4 episodes. Don’t get me wrong, this show isn’t “good”, it’s unrealistic and the story is not great but it was sweet and adorable and just a fun time in terms of entertainment value. I still don’t buy into Lian and Kuea’s relationship and see it as really fake and unromantic. However, this time they didn’t lie to each other constantly and the problems I had with their relationship in S1 weren’t anywhere to be seen. I like Hia Lian so much more in this. Supportive king.

Also, the side couples still didn’t get enough screen time and I really wanted more development for them. Especially YiDiao, who felt like their characters were pushed aside and only served as helpers for LianKuea. And more TutorYim please! I’m very excited for their future projects :)

Charming

I placed spoiler alert at the end of this review.

If you are a fan of Cutie Pie, you will apricate the main point of this miniseries. See the spoiler alert at the end of this review if you want more information. It was great to see the cast stepping into their characters which they did a great job with what they were given. Unfortunately, this miniseries also had very little character development. The script was ok, but had some missed opportunity with some of the side characters. There was one editing problem with a backwards time jump in the beginning of the first episode that was not clearly noted.

Random Notes: It really depends on how much you like Cutie Pie if you should watch this.

******Spoiler Alerts******

The main point was to show the fans Kuea Keerati and Lian Kilen Wang’s wedding and stress the legal importance of same-sex marriage.

A Beautiful Slice of Life of Kuea and Lian

Cutie Pie 2 is a ‘happily ever after’ series. It tells the story of Kua’s and Lian’s wedding, with the plot being more of a slice of life style rather than actual force driving it forward. I think the main purpose of this show is to gift us scenes with beautiful chemistry between ZeeNunew and to make us anticipate Naughty Babe.

Plot wise there really isn’t that much, it mostly revolves around the preparation for the wedding, different ideas people have, plans not going well, etc. But what I really appreciate is the clear communication between Kuea and Lian this time around. Cutie Pie was a very frustrating watch for me, because there was more assuming and misunderstandings than talking things through. Cutie Pie 2 doesn’treally have that problem, it’s really a green flag show.

What really makes the show worth the watch - besides Foei providing us 24/7 comedy - was the raw portray of emotions between Zee and Nunew. I think this was really a one of a kind opportunity - having real life boyfriends portraying character madly in love and getting married. Their love for each other could be felt from every scene together, not only the NC scenes. Sometimes it really felt like we were disturbing their private moments. And of course, the rest of the cast pulled through too, making the series really enjoyable in many aspects.

Now, about the NC scenes. Wow, just wow. I still insist that LITA has the best portray of intimacy and showing love through sex, but Cutie Pie 2 definitely takes the cake for the emotional rawness. Their NC scenes don’t actually show the act itself, so it’s mostly the pre-sex emotions, but it’s raw, filled with love and just beautiful. Especially the scene after the wedding, the way they both surrender to each other literally took my breath away.

WHAT I LIKED IN CUTIE PIE 2
- CINEMATOGRAPHY was on point, provided us with many beautiful scenes
- MUSIC was excellent as always, Nunew’s OST was the sweetest and the performances in series were well performed
- CHEMISTRY between all pairs
- COMMUNICATION and CONSENT

WHAT COULD USE IMPROVEMENT
- PLOT was okay if taken as slice of life, but even then there were some not so amazing places. Especially with Kuea wanting to become Kirin - it is supposed to be a big rift and get the pair to find a way to make it work, but it all goes unrealistically smoothly. Isn’t performing as an idol while being married impossible in Korea (cause jeslous stans)?
- CLICHÉ TROPES in the series. I enjoyed it nevertheless, but if you’ve been around for long enough, you could basically predict the whole plot of the show, as it really is the standart ‘wedding going wrong but saved at the last moment’ trope.

IN CONCLUSION
Cutie Pie 2 is a slice of life of our favourite pairs with the added bonus of good communication. It provides many comedic and heartwarmingly beautiful moments. If you feel like you need some love in your life and you want to turn into a puddle of goo, Cutie Pie 2 is the show to choose.

Could have been a 1 hour special episode

Remember how Cutie Pie is a yaoi fever dream? Cutie Pie 2 takes this to a whole new level. It took a lot for me to finish the first episode – and not without fast forwarding some parts hoping that the second-hand embarrassment would go away.

This sequel doesn’t have much of a storyline – it is a fluff fest made to sneak in more scenes of Zee/Nunew and Max/Nat furiously making out. I'm not a big fan of either couple. In fact, I would much rather watch a mature BL involving Zee and Max (LOL, Domundi are you seeing this??).

But anyway, the third and most overlooked couple, Neur and Synn, is the real reason why I even started watching this.

I actually liked that their very first intimacy scene was filled with awkward start stops and blunders – it’s a realistic look into how intimacy is built between two people who are not yet familiar with each others’ bodies.

In short: I only watched this for Neur & Synn, skipped most of the over parts, and realised that the sequel could have been a 1 hour special episode.

Awful

Honestly, you would be better off watching paint dry than subject yourself to this tedious, drab, lackluster, and boring series. So far, this is one of the worst I have seen this year (2023). Everything, and I mean everything about this series is insipid. I thought Cutie Pie 1 was so toxic with this one not much further behind. I found this series just too dysfunctional to enjoy, too boring, and absolutely pointless. The actors looked bored, depressed and very underwhelming performances. The love scene, if you want to call it that, in this series I had to fast forward through because it was just too painfully unimaginative to watch. How can you make love boring? Skip it if you can.

Was this really necessary?

I have to start this by saying that I already didnt like the first season. Neither Lian x Kuea nor Diao xYi were interesting. I only started watching the second season/special because of Syn and Nuer, who were the only likeable characters like everone else was like a plain white canvas. I mean ofc they all had pretty good chemistry but that didnt save the lack of plot for me. Anyway the whole thing about the wedding and the conflict they created just felt incredibly dumb to me. I just think they couldve ended with the first season and leave it as that and not squeeze some extra story out of an already boring plot. I dont hate the show I feel pretty neutral about it tbh it just annoyed me that it felt like they put no heart into the second season/special.
anywayyy very mediocre

Short story

It's such a shame that we only got 4 episodes of them. I would have watched them for a very long time. This series, this couple, really became one of my biggest favorites, so now my heart hurts because it ended so soon. The story was a bit confusing, it could have been worked out better, but that's because it was only possible to carry the story through 4 episodes. But overall I liked the second season as much as the first. The wedding night scene didn't make me swoon. To list these two negatives. The series was too short and as much as we saw them fall for each other in the first season, for me there was not much happening here...

Fan service...

Fan service, fan service as far as the eye can see you will get fan service... Couples getting together, kissing, people taking off their shirts and innocent and child like adult treated like most woman are portrayed gets it on with a mature stereotypical male ... Making this one of the gender convention wise most heteronormative portrayal of gay relationships I have ever seen.

To be clear I am all for mixing it up and portraying what usually counts as feminine traits in people who seen as me as a good thing. However when it is portrayed side by side and present in all the couples it becomes more complicated and less progressive... catering to the feminine eye...or something like that.

That said the story. was ok, nothing wow about it, there is not much of a plot so if you are expecting a plot or something the least bit meaningful that we could exhort in season one you will not find it here. At all, But it you just want an add on to the first season, to see more of the couples of season past. This is a decent place to find it.

Pretty much perfect for those days when you want to ignore the obvious and just be entertained by beautiful people touching each other in beautiful settings.

Also theOST has to be the most mismatched OST I have ever heard... the words do not fit the situation at all...
