1-The reason I watched this : I've already seen the anime therefore, I wanted to see the the live-action adaptation and so I end up watching this film.

2-Storyline/Plot : Almost the same from the anime though it was a bit rushed and lacked many important events which made it feel wrong sometimes. However, script writers managed to take the right path after a lot of struggle.
I watched the anime so the story was predictable to me. As for those who haven't seen the anime, this storyline may seem really absurd to watch.

3-Acting/Cast : Teppei was one of the main reasons I watched this since he's cute and *insert shallow feelings*.
Beside that, I don't believe that the acting department wasn't that amazing or appealing; it was acceptable overall.

4-Music : It was kind of a normal music not too special not too lame.

5-Rewatch value : Well, people who fell for it hardly would defenitely rewatch, others would think of it as a waste of time.

6-The ending : It was satisfying. it wasn't the type of ending that would make you jump of your seat so don't expect too much.

7-Overall : It wasn't that bad but it wasn't that great either. It could've been much better yet it wasn't a disappointing adaptation.

P.S : For those who watched the anime and liked it you may want to watch this without high expectations or prejudices; it will much better that way.

This was possibly one of the cutest things I have ever watched!
I love the story! I'm defiantly going to watch the Anime now. The acting was great, it was very very sweet!
I think I could watch this over and over again. Its so funny, if anyone is having a bad day they should watch this.

I've never seen Koike Teppei in anything but I'm defiantly going to check out a few of the other dramas hes in, he was great.

The acting was good, very cute! and the chemistry between the male and female leads was great.

Lovely Complex was an extraordinary drama, and I have fallen in love with it. At first, I was skeptical because I thought the story-line seemed ridiculous, and that the movie would wind up being boring, but it was the exact opposite; I've fallen in love with the "ridiculous" story-line. You really got to feel the characters in this movie, and there were times where I felt like crying and laughing alongside the characters. Whenever it would begin to get depressing, they would add a spark of comical relief, though, they were careful enough as to not spoil the mood.

The only thing I have a problem with is the actress that plays as Risa. I think she's a beautiful actress, but throughout the entire movie, she had annoying body movements. I think it may be because she's trying to actually imitate the anime character (though it's being done poorly, because even anime characters don't shake around like she is) and at times it would really begin to tick me off. It was like she had a twitch or she was just a total spazz. Her acting was great, it's just I think she tried a little too hard. The actor that plays as Otani was WAY cute. He fit the role perfectly, and despite Risa's actress being *kind of* annoying, they still looked adorable together.

Overall, I loved this film and I definitely would re-watch it again, in fact, I have... 3 times already!

This movie came out in 2006, and as it's been over five years, this movie qualifies as "old" in my book. However, the movie shows no signs of age, in image quality or in content.

Story: People can argue all they like, but I think this movie's story is very original. A girl who's "too tall" and a boy who's "too short" are perfect for each other but they fail to realize it. The second half might be cliche, but aren't all romcoms at some point? The progression pace was good, and they stuck pretty darn closely to the manga-->I do disclaim that the manga itself didn't have the strongest ending, so the drama couldn't really do anything about that. It does bring closure, though. :)

Acting/Casting: The lead actor and lead actress were so perfect I'm not quite sure what to say beyond that. Though the height difference is much more drastic in the manga (too drastic to be real), these two pulled off their complexes very well. I found myself laughing at all of their interactions! They're a hilarious couple (whether they wanted to be or not)~ The other cast members weren't that memorable, but considering the story isn't about them...oh well. Risa's sister was absolutely hilarious though--so be on the watch out for her. XD

Music: I don't quite remember particular tracks, but I think that's a good thing. The music adds another dimension to the movie, and doesn't draw attention to itself. Like the backstage crew of a play...they do plenty of necessary and important work while they play is going, but doesn't distract from the play itself. Ninjas, they are.

Rewatch Value: After every romantic comedy, there will always be another romantic comedy. Truthfully, I don't even *like* romantic comedies! But this one was unique in its story, spectacular in its casting, and an overall joy to watch. I wouldn't mind watching it again--at all--though maybe I'd have some gripes about the ending, but that's all!

Overall: A very lighthearted story about two cute high schoolers who find their way to love. Lovely Complex is a movie that makes you feel all warm and fuzzy inside, though maybe with a hint of a country accent (they're speaking in Osakan dialect and it's hilarious/adorable). Gives a new spin on romantic comedies. Manga adaptation or not, this movie holds its ground. Definitely recommended!

Where to start, okay, I am going to say it from the very start, in my opinion, the movie doesn't match up to the anime, from certain missed out scenes to the general atmosphere of the movie, it just isn't as good as the manga/anime, in my opinion.

The story a simple, yet well composed one, Risa Koizumi is a exceptionally tall girl and was rejected by the boy she liked because of her height, Otani Atsushi is a very short boy and was rejected by the girl he liked because of her height, both of them promised they would never fall for someone shorter/taller than them. That is, till they meet in high school.

Now, this movie never really takes itself that seriously, from the dramatic moments, to regular conversation it always twists it into a joke at some points, which, is mostly pulled off well. The plot of it is a very simple plot, but hasn't really been done many times before, I have seen it in a few manga's myself, but none of them really pulled it off the way lovely complex does. The movie contains some quite good acting, especially Koike Teppei as Otani, Risa, played by Fujisawa Ema, also does a good job, but she does sound almost like she is sad, all the way through the movie, which really does work for certain parts of the movie, but takes away from it for others. The music, or lack there of it, is good at best, but it never really sweeps you away, and with the lack of it, you rarely take notice of any music being there. In my opinion, its worth watching again, but some people would note it as a waste of time, so that mainly comes down to you.

As a general it is a good movie, but it never really takes you away on anything, the movie format of it adds in some new memorable moments, but also takes away from key ones from the anime/manga, I give the movie a 7, definitely worth watching, but would probably be more enjoyable if you have never seen the anime.

I've watched the anime version and I gotta admit, I was hooked. I had great expectations for the live action movie since I knew well where the story was going. There's no denying that the love story of our comedic couple varies greatly from what we are used to.

I was really happy with the casting. Both leads were exceptionally beautiful with the characters they're portraying. I mean, they look like human animes. But then again, it's Japan so what do you expect? ahahaha When it comes to acting though, err not much of a fan. They could have done better. Like in Riza's case, she should try lessening her hand gestures LOL |spoiler alert: IT'S OBVIOUS SHE LIKES MOVING| I recon other JDoramas and their respective actors and actresses. I think to myself, "Well yea, they tend to overreact a little bit. So no biggie." As long as it doesn't ruin the plot, it's okay.

I like the pacing. Fast. Though I would very much like to have a live action series rather than a compacted movie. There are many comedic scenes omitted. And those lovey-dovey scenes too! (oh gosh which BTW were so adorable in the anime version)

I'd love to see Riza's makeover. Other characters' progression. And many more.

I wish Japan would make a full length series out of it. I mean, how hard can it be? (lol so easy for me to say but why not hahaha) Itazura Na Kiss has done a makeover on itself. And it's a helluva better version OUT OF ALL IT STARTED WITH A KISS SERIES IN THE WORLD.

But overall I like the story. Laughed with the special addition. (Guess who!) Love the actors and actresses playing. Am somewhat bitter on the "acting" part. And umm... Maity! Dear Gawsh! Why I mean why is maity like that?! SORRY... And umm... well, my opinion doesn't matter really. You better watch it and say for yourself. Like I said, I've watched the anime so there's still a tinge of bias in me.

Many people hated it. Can't say I have reached that point. Fortunately. It's not bad as it sounds.

It's a likable, so-so, feel good movie. Worthy of every LoveCom (hopeless romantic) fan out there. PLus it's funny. Come on!

At least for me LOL :D HAHAHAHA

I wasn't aware that this was a manga or anime so I was going into this blindsided...

Everything about this movie is ridiculous from the height drama to the characters themselves (seriously that teacher was so weird!). Even so, I did find this movie to be watchable and enjoyable for the most part. It was super silly and funny. The acting was believable and all the characters were lovable. I'd watch this again.

I watched the Anime and decided to take a look at the live action motion picture that was produced. If you haven't watched the anime and you'd like to watch this movie, watch the movie first. That way, you can enjoy the anime and the movie much better. This movie was bad. I mean, really bad. I'm comparing this movie, to ANY MOVIE that you may want to watch. In the spirit of fairness, I will use the rating guidelines in MDL.

Story:
The story is paper-thin. It's a series of mixed vignettes from the anime and manga. When pieced together, it really doesn't make a lot of sense. The characters' motivations lack grounding. Their behaviors changed without much provocation, usually just taking one instance to dictate a change in behavior. The dialogue is really awkward. The scenes were badly thought out, and I can tell that the budget was low due to the poor production values and set quality. The explosion of colors will assault your senses. In the original anime and manga, they wore school uniforms. In the movie, we get ugly, ugly, unfashionable (because I'm reviewing it in 2017) clothes. If they used school uniforms, this movie wouldn't appear so dated if you watched it today.

Acting:
It was bad. I mean, really cheesy, over-acting, bad. I don't know if they wanted to reflect the wild, over-reactions that the anime executed perfectly, but you have to understand one thing: THOSE WERE DRAWINGS. Exaggeration in anime can be, and most often is, funny. If you try that with a real-life human being, the actor is gonna look stupid. The characters weren't fleshed-out and come across as either stupid, fickle and senseless. This includes the two leads. They flip-flop from one emotion to another without reason. In the anime, the characters were really fleshed-out because of the time that was given to them. It was understandable that they would feel those emotions and come to terms with their decisions. In this movie, it was a real mess. A lot of that is due to time constraints, but mostly, it's due to bad acting. I couldn't care less about these characters.

Music:
Forgettable

Re-watch Value:
If you want to suffer a stroke, go ahead and watch it again.

Over-all, this movie was bad. I can't help compare it to Ore Monogatari. Though not really a cinematic masterpiece in itself, the story was at least sevicable, and the actors were really invested in the performance. Again, this was a really bad movie. It was a bad adaptation of the anime and manga. It was just.... really... Horrible. Don't watch it.

It is very much a live action interpretation of a graphic novel. Sometimes I just don't understand the humor b/c it gets a little stupid.

The story is cute & as a short person I can understand the complex that the characters have. I swear some days I feel like I live in the land of giants. Height can be a big issue when ur looking for the right person, but u should never give up on love. I thought that the writers & characters did a good job conveying these feelings. I have a feeling that a lot that is in the graphic novel (which I have not read) was left out due to the fact that u can only put so much into a movie time frame.

I enjoyed watching this even w/ the extra commentary. I will say that this is prolly not every1's cup of tea, but I thought they did well!

The Lovely Complex anime was the reason that I decided to definitely add this to my list, same reason as a lot of you that have, I'm sure.

The anime was funny, cute, and didn't seem very artificial. This, on the other hand....

Story: Some bits were actually funny, but not enough for a comedy. Very few and far between. It also felt rushed and unrealistic/cliche. I felt sorry for Risa's character because of her emotions but other than that, nothing moved me. The story was very very basic of a typical school romance.

Cast: I was excited when I realised that Mizushima Hiro would be in it but he had zero presence and? I didn't even recognize him until I was about a third of the way through. He's the only actor I know from the cast. The acting, though? Very average. No-one stood out as a very good actor in my eyes, not even Hiro.

Music: Eh.

Summary: Watch this movie if you feel like killing some time because it isn't painful to watch, it's just not very exciting at all.

If you want a powerful love story, *definitely* look for something else.

Oh wow... a blast from the past with this one! It's been ages upon ages since I watched (and adored) the anime of Lovely Complex and ever since I found out there's a movie adaptation of it it's been waiting for its turn on my "plan to watch" list. But... life happens as it does.

I've fallen out of the loop of anime and j-dramas/k-dramas and I now return 2 years later, picking up where I left off. And so, I launch myself into 1 hour and 40 minutes of laughter and cringeworthy romance! Man oh man, where do I even start... Okay so, it's painfully obvious that this movie is going for that anime feel - which can both be very awkward and very funny, so I have mixed feelings about it. There's exaggeration to the maximum, full blast awkward hand movements, poses and facial expressions, so prepare your soul for this.

But the storyline is very easy to follow, it's pace is quite quick but nothing too extreme. It catches the comical elements that gave the anime of Lovely Complex a special place in my heart quite well. As for the romance part, well... let's just say, I laughed more at the scenes in the movie that tugged my heartstrings in the anime. And this might be due to me changing personally, but still... I don't really know how to explain it, there was never really a pause for a truly serious moment to make me feel invested in the romance. The awkward anime-like acting took away from that experience and just made it all so very cringeworthy and laughable. Still, it made it even funnier (without it typically intending to), so it keeps tipping over to being a comedy movie with splashes of romance in my mind.

ALSO I FRIGGIN' LOVE THAT NARRATOR DUDE, HE MAKES ME LAUGH THE MOST.

Now the only reason I might re-watch this movie is probably because my boyfriend has never been exposed to Japanese drama or anime, and if he's going to be, then we better get into it to the extremely cutesy. Potentially scaring him off from the genre - or not, you never know - but it would be a damn good time.

Nonetheless, if you're looking for a very lighthearted Japanese rom-com, this might be something for you. It's silly and cute, awkward here and there, but you might just find that adds to the cute factor more than I did. It's not very long, so if you do have the time, why not give it an honest shot!

The reason why most of us pick to watch this is the manga/anime.
But I think it would be even better to watch this before those two...
It is not a copy/paste of the anime... It ends on the midway.
Some scenes, as expected, are not involved.
Most of the time it gives off the impression that something's wrong.
Something's missing. And the biggest problem, for me, was the acting.
It was way over the top (in my opinion). Yes, most of the dramas are so, but still...
The anime seemed just more natural than seeing actual people do these things.
I just couldn't get used to the actress who played Koizumi.
Still, despite all of this, I think it was a good watch. I was more amused than not.
